Idaho murder victim Ethan Chapin's family releases tragic statement after skipping Bryan Kohberger's sentencing

The mother of slain University of Idaho student Ethan Chapin believes 'the outcome is the right one' as cold-blooded killer Bryan Kohberger was jailed for life over the vicious killings of her son and his three classmates. Stacy Chapin shared a heartbreaking message for her son as she spoke out for the first time after she chose not to attend Kohberger's sentencing at Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho, last week. 'We've given a lot of thought to what we should say since 7/23 and have edited this a million times,' Stacy Chapin wrote in an Instagram post on behalf of her family on Thursday. 'You were only with us for 20 years, but you touched the lives of so many people,' she wrote. 'From the time you were a baby to when we dropped you off at college, you were an absolute joy and the glue that held our family together. We remember your smile, your laugh, how you kept us in check, and the many ways you brought happiness and light to any situation. There will never be another you.' 8 Stacy Chapin and Jim Chapin arrive at the Ada County Courthouse for Bryan Kohberger's plea deal hearing on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Boise, Idaho. Stacy Chapin thanked investigators, prosecutors, University of Idaho staff, and loved ones for their 'ongoing support' since the 2022 murders and throughout the trial. The Chapin family did not attend Kohberger's sentencing hearing, unlike the families of the other three victims — Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Xana Kernodle, 20, — who were present. Chapin's parents said they had already found 'big-time closure' in their son's death after his killer pleaded guilty to the murders. 'I really don't care what happens to the guy .. He's off the streets. He can't hurt any more kids,' Ethan's father Jim Chapin told 'TODAY' before Kohberger's sentencing. The couple said the plea agreement sparing Kohberger of the death penalty will save their surviving children from potentially having to testify at trial and relay their brother's traumatizing death. 8 The grieving mom, who shared numerous photos of Chapin with his two siblings, Maisie and Hunter — with whom he was a triplet — and with the family. Arkansas hairstylist reveals ‘eerie' encounter with Devil's Den murder suspect Andrew James McGann moments before he's arrested mid-haircut: ‘He looked soulless'

The madman accused of brutally murdering two parents in front of their children in Arkansas' Devil's Den State Park 'looked soulless' during a haircut moments before he was arrested for the killings, his hairstylist revealed. Andrew James McGann entered Lupita's Beauty Salon in Springdale, Arkansas, just before 5 p.m. on July 30, five days after the brutal murders of Cristen Amanda Brink and her husband, Clinton David Brink, in the state park. Hairstylist Adriana Ruiz Avalos was put off by McGann's presence but still began the haircut, unaware of the high-profile arrest about to take place inside her shop. Lupita's Beauty Salon 'As soon as I saw him, as I was telling him to come into my chair, I had an eerie feeling about him,' Avalos told NewsNation's 'Banfield' Thursday night. 'He looked soulless,' she claimed. 'He didn't look right.' Advertisement The hairdresser says she had never seen McGann before the haircut session and found his hair and scalp in poor condition. 'Very dry and matted,' Avalos characterized McGann's head. McGann's eyes were 'very sunken' as he sat in the chair during the haircut. The 28-year-old murder suspect allegedly asked Avalos not to cut anything off the top to keep his eyes covered as he had evaded police for nearly a week, the outlet reported. AP 5 Cristen and Clinton Brink were killed while they were with their daughters in Devil's Den State Park on July 26, 2025. Facebook / Cristen Brink Law enforcement agents tracked McGann down to the salon, pinpointing him inside because his car, a black 2022 Kia Stinger, was parked outside. McGann kept his head down and tried not to engage with the plain-clothed agents when a detective entered the shop, located 35 miles away from Devil's Den State Park. Advertisement 'He really didn't say anything until they were like, 'I believe it's your car,'' Avalos said. The hairstylist believes McGann wasn't aware of the situation until it was too late. McGann was arrested mid-haircut and was handcuffed while still wearing a barber's cape, according to surveillance video from inside the salon. The cape was removed from the suspected killer as he was escorted out of the shop. McGann is accused of murdering the Brinks while the couple were on a walk in Devil's Den State Park with their two daughters. The family of four was allegedly ambushed by a knife-wielding McGann on a remote wilderness trail on July 26. Clinton Brink fended off the attacker as his wife rushed their daughters to safety. McGann was charged with two counts of capital murder and is being held without bond at the Washington County jail. He allegedly confessed to the crimes, but is expected to plead guilty. Advertisement Prosecutors said McGann — whose DNA matched blood left at the murder scene — could face the death penalty if convicted. Avalos claims the entire incident took a toll on her and was left overwhelmed. 'I'm saddened because two little girls lost their parents. And it's … a soulless act by Andrew. It's unimaginable,' she said.
