A small and "picturesque" city in Sussex has been named among the best places in the country for a short break.
Which? has revealed the best city breaks in the UK for 2025.
Following its latest survey of almost 4,000 Which? members, it narrowed down the best large UK cities for a short break.
The survey also named the best medium-sized and best small UK cities for a short break.
In April 2024, Which? asked 3,967 members to rate UK cities and towns they'd visited for leisure purposes and stayed in for at least one night in the past two years.
Making the list of best small UK cities for a short break was Chichester, in West Sussex.
The city earned a 69% on its customer score, which is based on a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely people are to recommend the city as a holiday destination to a friend.
Each city was also ranked based on its average hotel price, food and drink, accommodation, cultural sights, shopping, ease of getting around, lack of crowds, parking and value for money.
Wells, just below Bath in Somerset, got the highest customer score of anywhere in the survey with 86% and was the number one small UK cities for a short break.
It was not the only spot in Sussex to be recognised.
Brighton and Hove was named on the list of the best large UK cities for a short break.
Chichester was recently named one of Britain's happiest places to live.
On Chichester, the list by The Guardian said: "Bounded by the South Downs and the sea, Chichester's medieval graces have escaped the commuter belt blight because the 90-minute train journey puts it just out of range of London.
"Dominating the city centre is the 11th-century cathedral with world-class choristers and art by Marc Chagall, John Piper and Elizabeth Frink mingling with Anglo-Saxon reliefs and medieval vaulting."
It adds: "However you like to spend your spare time, you will find something to do in Chichester. There's a weekly street market in the city centre selling local produce and crafts, which is a happy place to potter.
"Chichester Festival Theatre launches new works into the West End and beyond and has a stream of plays, comedy and family entertainment. And you have the great outdoors on your doorstep."
Regarding things to do in the city, Visit Chichester lists recommends places such as the City Walls, Priory Park, Novium Museum and Chichester Art Trail.

If you are looking for things to do around Chichester too, the South Downs National Park is hugely popular and full of trails, walking routes and more to visit.
Visit Chichester adds: "Further afield, there's no better place to make the most of the great outdoors than the Witterings.
The pretty market towns of Midhurst and Petworth and the seaside town of Selsey are not far away and well worth a visit whilst you're in the area."

The One Item You Should Never Put in a TSA Bin—and What to Do Instead

Next time you go through a TSA security checkpoint at the airport, be careful: there's one item you should make sure to not put directly into the bin. Cell phones are at risk of being stolen directly out of TSA security bins if they are left loose. Instead it's recommended that you tuck it away inside one of your bags, preferably in a sealable pocket. This can also apply to other valuables or electronics you might be traveling with through security. Tiffany, a travel expert who posts TikToks under the name from Pittsburgh to more than 24,000 followers, says in a video she shared that one thing she will never do is place her phone in the bin directly. She told a story about a time she did leave her phone out loose, and she was chastised by the TSA agent on duty. 'I did this once and the TSA agent looked at me and said, you don't like your phone?' Tiffany shares. 'He said, this is the fastest way to get it stolen.' She continues, 'Lines can back up and somebody can just swipe it and you're not paying attention until you realize it's too late.' It's wise to make sure your phone and other electronics are tucked safely away, unless the TSA agent specifically asks you to remove the item from your bag. If you do lose your phone or any other important item as you go through security, all hope is not lost. According to the TSA website, nearly 100,000 lost items are recovered every year. 'Passengers are encouraged to place their contact information on the outside of their electronics, such as laptops, in case the item is left behind. TSA will make every effort to reunite passengers with their belongings,' the TSA website states. 'Unclaimed electronics will have its memory removed and destroyed (e.g. laptop hard drive) or be destroyed completely (e.g. items with non-removable memory) to protect personal data after the 30-day holding period.' So follow Tiffany's advice to keep your phone safe. 'I am not putting my phone directly into one of the containers," she said, "It's always going in a zipped pocket in my bag."

This Lush South Asian Island Is An Ideal Alternative To Bali

Sri Lanka became an independent country on February 4th, 1948. getty Long renowned for its verdant landscapes and historic temples, the Indonesian island of Bali draws droves of tourists each year to surf and sunbathe along its sandy shores—but in recent years, this influx of international visitors has caused serious strain on its local communities. As the island grapples with endless traffic jams and increased pollution, ethically-minded travelers may wish to set their sights on a different destination to alleviate some of the pressure, with Sri Lanka offering abundant natural beauty and fascinating cultural experiences with far fewer tourists. Though not particularly close to each other—Bali is a province within Indonesia's Lesser Sunda Islands, while Sri Lanka is an independent nation off the coast of India—the two destinations are both renowned for their lush landscapes, with plenty of hiking opportunities found across both islands. While Bali tourists might take part in the Campuhan Ridge Walk or embark on a sunrise trek to the peak of Mount Batur, those who visit Sri Lanka can find a wide range of outdoor adventure experiences, with sites like Bible Rock, Ella Rock and the Knuckles Mountain Range all offering marvelous views of the countryside. Meanwhile, surfing enthusiasts can spend their visit in the waters of Arugam Bay or Mirissa, both of which serve as an alternative to Bali's Uluwatu. The interior of Sri Lanka is home to towering mountains including Adam's Peak (pictured here). getty Beyond the natural splendor, Sri Lanka is also home to a storied culture that spans centuries, with bustling cities and idyllic temples found all across the country. During a trip to Bali, visitors are likely to visit iconic structures like the Uluwatu Temple and Tanah Lot Temple—and when it comes to eye-catching architecture, Sri Lanka is more than capable of matching the Lesser Sunda Islands, with sites like Isurumuniya and Thirukoneswaram Kovil drawing visitors in droves. Meanwhile, those who prefer urban exploration can spend their time navigating the storied streets of Colombo, with destinations spanning from the 1870s-era National Museum to the Dutch Hospital precinct, a lively plaza that's brimming with restaurants and artisanal shops. Though Bali and Sri Lanka are both rife with natural beauty, the latter outshines the former in one field in particular: wildlife tourism. While the Bali tiger was driven to extinction decades ago, Sri Lanka plays host to a staggering array of extant animals, with species like the sloth bear, leopard and Asian elephant roaming its lush forests. To catch a glimpse of its rich biodiversity in the flesh, Sri Lanka visitors can spend a day birdwatching with Yala Safari Holidays across the wetlands of Bundala National Park or spend a few nights at the Uga Chena Huts , a collection of seaside cabins that offer a seamless blend of world-class luxury and fauna-focused ecotourism. The Sri Lankan elephant is one of three recognized subspecies of the Asian elephant. getty It's easy to see how Bali has become such a magnet for vacationers, but the island has been suffering for years due to the effects of overtourism—and while it's still stunning today, it might be best to seek an alternative destination for your next holiday. During a visit to Sri Lanka, visitors can enjoy marvelous outdoor adventure expeditions paired with fascinating city tours, all while captivating flora and fauna thrives across the island. If you're hoping to explore an oft-underrated destination all while giving Bali some much-needed room to breathe, be sure to set aside some time to explore Sri Lanka, a gem of South Asia that's home to a truly dazzling array of destinations.
