Report: Boston Celtics hire Drew Nicholas as Executive Director of Player Personnel
Nicholas' path to the Celtics before those stops began as a player for the University of Maryland, where the Hempstead, New York native played at the NCAA level. After going unselected in the 2003 NBA draft, Nicholas played in Europe until 2012, with some stints played for higher-profile clubs like Panathinaikos and Emporio Armani Milano before becoming a scout for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2016.
Stepping into the role played by former Celtics Director of Player Personnel Austin Ainge after his decampment to the Utah Jazz earlier this summer, the former Terrapin should be a solid option to help guide Boston in adding talent to their next contending roster.

Can the Boston Celtics team culture handle a Ben Simmons signing?
Can the Boston Celtics team culture handle a Ben Simmons signing? The Celtics have been connected to the former Los Angeles Clippers big man in free agency, and not all fans of the storied ball club are into such a move. Citing his past turbulence as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets, those fans understandably look past his solid, uneventful campaign with the Clips in LA last season out of concern for the several younger players on the team. The thinking is that Simmons has never been part of a winning culture and thus has little to offer the development of such players besides soaking up a portion of the minutes in a best-case scenario. And they rightfully note that the Australian forward could make things a problem for Boston in the worst-case outcomes if he brings some of his past antics to the team. The hosts of the CLNS Media "First to the Floor" podcast, Jake Issenberg, Ben Vallis, and Wayne Spooney, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below! What will the Boston Celtics do with the roster spot opened up by JD Davison's departure?
What will the Boston Celtics do with the roster spot opened up by JD Davison's departure? The Celtics elected to waive the University of Alabama alum on Thursday (July 25) afternoon, presumably to get the team's roster under the NBA's second apron and all the penalties that brings teams like Boston. In so doing, they opened up a roster spot, but one that will require the right sort of player to fill on several levels, if they fill it at all. In order to make use of the roster spot in a way that makes sense, the Celtics would need to find a player making (or able to make) less than Davison did to keep the team from ending up right back where they started. Add in that the front office is likely looking for younger talent able to provide low-cost depth for when Boston gets back to trying to contend, and the pool of potential fits gets slim in a hurry -- at least before the passing of some of the regular season or other trades makes such moves less difficult. The cohosts of "Havlicek Stole the Pod" took some time on a recent episode of their show with guest Justin Turpin of WEEI to look at what Boston might do with that roster spot, as well as what else is on the team's plate in terms of issues needing closure for the rest of the 2025 NBA offseason. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about that roster spot and more. Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Spotify: iTunes: YouTube:
