What's the Movie About? It follows a Korean-American girl who defies her family to audition for a reality TV show, hoping to join the next big K-pop girl group. The storyline's giving underdog dreams, passion, and full K-drama energy. Title? Still under wraps. Who's in It? Jiyoung Yoo, who voiced Zoey in Netflix's K-Pop Demon Hunters, and Eric Nam —yup, the singer—are taking the lead. Filming Starts Soon Production kicks off mid-September in South Korea, making it the first Hollywood film shot entirely in Korea. Talk about a milestone! Big Names Behind the Scenes Director Benson Lee calls this his 'love letter to K-pop.' The team includes writer Eileen Shim, HYBE America's James Shin, and even Scooter Braun as one of the producers. Paramount's Bryan Oh is overseeing the whole thing.

BTS agency HYBE raided over alleged fraud trading

HYBE, the agency behind K-pop superstars BTS, was raided by police on Thursday in connection with alleged fraudulent trading involving its founder Bang Si-hyuk, investigators said. "We are conducting a search and seizure at HYBE's headquarters in Yongsan District," the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said in a brief statement. Bang, the mastermind behind BTS, is under investigation over allegations that he misled early investors to reap illicit profits from the company's 2020 initial public offering. He is accused of gaining around 200 billion won (US$146 million) through the process, according to local reports. HYBE has denied Bang committed any wrongdoing. "We will dutifully clarify that the listing at the time was carried out in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations," the company said in a statement in early July, pledging "active cooperation" with authorities to get to the bottom of the case. The investigation comes as all seven BTS members complete their mandatory military service and prepare for a comeback next year. HYBE announced earlier this month that a new album and world tour were scheduled for 2026. BTS, known for championing progressive causes, holds the record as the most-streamed group on Spotify and became the first K-pop act to top both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Artist 100 charts in the United States. Before their military service, BTS generated more than 5.5 trillion won ($4 billion) in yearly economic impact, according to the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. That accounts for roughly 0.2 percent of South Korea's total GDP, according to official data.

Watch: Sheikh Mohammed calls Sheikh Hamdan 'one in a million' in heartfelt poem

A father's pride and a poetic gesture came together in a heartfelt tribute shared by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, describing his son Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed as the 'one in a million of our time'. On Thursday, Sheikh Mohammed posted a video with a song written in his own words, on his official account on X. The father's appreciation of the son was presented as a song performed by Emirati singer Eida Al Menhali, based on verses written by Sheikh Mohammed himself. The lyrics reflect admiration, pride and trust in Sheikh Hamdan's leadership. 'The sweetest wishes and the most beautiful songs. I dedicate its meanings to the a hopeful man. Today is your day, O one in a million of our time,' the lyrics begin. The post comes a year after Sheikh Hamdan was appointed Minister of Defence on July 14, 2024, in a federal government reshuffle that also included the appointment of Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed as Vice President. While the post does not reference the anniversary, the timing has drawn public interest. At the time of the appointment, Sheikh Mohammed described his son as a trusted leader with strong ties to the public. 'Sheikh Hamdan is a leader who loves his people and his people love him. We have immense confidence that he will be a great addition to the UAE government and a major contributor to shaping the country's future,' he said. Since then, Sheikh Hamdan has led the Ministry of Defence while continuing to serve as Crown Prince of Dubai, taking on expanded federal responsibilities at a time of strategic growth. The song adds a personal dimension to that journey, blending poetry, tradition and leadership in a way that resonates with many across the UAE.
