Noah Lyles gets shoved by rival Kenny Bednarek after rallying for win in 200
Lyles overtook Bednarek in the final strides and turned to stare down the runner-up, who then reached out with both hands to forcefully push the winner away.
Before the beef could heat up, Bednarek extended his hand to congratulate Lyles for winning the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships event and the pair calmly addressed their differences.
An NBC Sports camera approached them on the track at Hayward Field and caught the tail end of their chat which seemed to reflect a spat that pre-dated Sunday's race.
"If you got a problem, I expected a call," Bednarek said. "That's all I'm saying."
Lyles then extended an olive branch as well.
"You know what, you're right," Lyles said. "Let's talk after this."
Bednarek declined to explain the shove.
"I'm not going to say that out here but we got something to do and talk about," he told NBC Sports. "That's all I'm going to say."
Lyles' time of 19.63 seconds was .04 better than Bednarek, setting the stage for a rematch in the world championship outdoor meet set for Sept. 19 in Tokyo.
Lyles, 28, was one of the breakout stars from Paris last summer, taking gold in the most thrilling races of the 2024 games. Lyles barely nudged out Cashain Thompson to become the first American to take 100 gold since 2004.
Lyles then won bronze in the 200, finishing third behind gold medalist Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and the runner-up, Bednarek.

Saquon Barkley says he declined a spot on President Donald Trump's sports council
PHILADELPHIA — Saquon Barkley has declined an invitation to join President Donald Trump's council on sports, fitness, and nutrition, which is being revitalized under an executive order that also re-establishes the Presidential Fitness Test for American children. Barkley, the 2,000-yard rusher for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, was on a list of sports personalities that included golfers Bryson DeChambeau and Nelly Korda, WWE executive Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor and retired New York Yankees great Mariano Rivera. Barkley said Monday following Eagles' practice that he had declined the invitation. 'A couple months ago, it was brought to my team about the council,' Barkley said. 'So I'm not really too familiar with it. I felt like that I am going to be super busy. Me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that. I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned. I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned.' Trump last week re-established the Presidential Fitness Test for American children, a fixture of public schools for decades that gauged young people's health and athleticism with 1-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises. 'This is a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back,' Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration. The executive order also reinvigorated the national sports council that could have included Barkley. Barkley won AP Offensive Player of the Year last season after rushing for 2,005 yards, eighth-best in NFL history, in his first season with the Eagles. Barkley has golfed with Trump and former President Barack Obama over the last year, and the running back attended the White House celebration of the champion Eagles while some teammates — notably star quarterback Jalen Hurts — skipped the ceremony. Barkley visited Trump in April at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, and caught a ride with the president to Washington on Air Force One and then to the White House on Marine One. 'He loved it,' Trump said then of Barkley's short flight on the presidential airplane. 'He's a great young guy and an incredible football player. Saquon had a season for the ages, running behind the most powerful offensive line in the NFL.' Barkley, meanwhile, pushed back on social media criticism following the visit. He noted that he had already golfed with Obama, a Democrat.

Tom Brady offered the most unrealistic advice for elevating the USMNT
One of the major critiques Tom Brady has faced as an NFL broadcaster is that he rarely offers insight beyond stating the obvious. And that very well seems to be the same for Brady's soccer expertise. The seven-time Super Bowl champion is a minority owner of newly promoted EFL Championship club Birmingham City FC. And while his time around soccer pales in comparison to his decades of NFL experience, he has still gotten to see the inner workings of a club battling up the EFL pyramid. That's a unique perspective on the game for sure. But there's plenty Brady doesn't know about U.S. Soccer, and that became clear in his recent interview with Men in Blazers. For Brady, he felt that U.S. Soccer and the USMNT really needed to find its own Lamine Yamal or Lionel Messi — a phenom to take over. He said that as if it was simple enough to find a once-in-a-generation superstar at 17 years old who also happened to be American. Or in Messi's case ... oh, just the best player of all-time. Every team could use a Lamine Yamal. That's like saying the Washington Wizards only need a player like Prime LeBron James. Well, yeah. But Brady obviously overlooked the how of that point. To avoid getting into a full breakdown of the many shortcomings within U.S. Soccer's pay-for-play system at the grassroots level, it's very difficult for any country to produce a transformative phenom like Yamal or Messi. And the U.S. is far less equipped to luck into one despite its population. That being said, the U.S. has been able to find some very good players and two borderline world-class players (Christian Pulisic and Antonee Robinson). And 15-year-old Cavan Sullivan could potentially be a player to even surpass them one day. But no, Brady isn't offering realistic advice here. That's not really thinking outside the box at all.

Saquon Barkley ‘shocked' to hear name on Trump's sports council after turning it down
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley said he did not accept President Donald Trump's invitation to serve on his council on sports, fitness and nutrition as part of the newly signed executive order to to restore youth physical fitness across the United States. Barkley told reporters after Monday's practice that he was 'shocked' to find out that his name was mentioned, and that he declined the opportunity after speaking with his family. 'A couple months ago it was brought to my team about the council. So I'm not really too familiar with it,' Barkley said. 'I felt like I am going to be super busy so me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that. I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned.
