10-year-old Ferozepur boy who served milk, lassi to troops during Op Sindoor feted by army
The Indian Army on May 25 honoured the 10-year-old boy, Sharavan Singh, for his bravery and tireless efforts during Operation Sindoor.
Major General Ranjit Singh Manral, General Officer Commanding of the 7th Infantry Division (Golden Arrow Division), felicitated Shravan Singh, a Class 4 student from Tara Wali village in Mamdot block, and presented him with a memento, a meal and his favourite treat — an ice cream.
'He wasn't afraid. He wants to be a soldier one day as well,' said Santosh Rani, his mother, beaming with pride. 'The soldiers became his friends. They loved what he did for them,' she added.
As the hostilities India-Pakistan hostilities grew between May 7 and 10 and swarms of drones were seen in border towns, the usually quiet Tara Wali village in Mamdot sector transformed into a strategic staging ground and rows of soldiers occupied the farmland.
Amid the rumble of convoys, the 10-year-old boy ran rounds under the punishing summer sun, carrying essential items for the troops and becoming a symbol of courage and compassion for them.
For over a fortnight, Shravan made daily supply rounds for the soldiers stationed at his family land.
Shravan is a Class 4 student at the local government school and his father runs a dairy in the village.
His father Sona Singh says the 10-year-old was 'thrilled' to do what he was doing. 'From the very first day, he insisted on helping the jawans. We supported him and he never gave up,' Sona Singh added.

Varanasi (UP), Jul 28 (PTI) Urging devotees to keep the holy site clean and plastic-free, the administration of Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple has announced a ban on plastic items starting August 11, officials said. Posters issued by the temple administration have been displayed in and around the temple, stating that no visitor will be allowed to enter the premises with any plastic containers. Devotees are politely requested to help maintain the sanctity, cleanliness, and plastic-free environment of the 'dham'. Temple officials said that, as of the enforcement date, pilgrims will no longer be allowed to offer water to Lord Shiva using plastic containers. A public awareness campaign has already been underway since the first Monday of the Shravan month, informing visitors not to carry water or any offerings in plastic vessels. Disaster mock drill in Delhi to start from July 29
NEW DELHI: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with the Indian Army and state governments of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, will conduct a large-scale disaster management exercise, 'EXERCISE SURAKSHA CHAKRA', from 29 July to 01 August. This multi-state, multi-agency exercise is one of the largest preparedness drills ever held in the National Capital Region (NCR) that aims to strengthen coordination and response mechanisms for major disasters like earthquakes and industrial chemical hazards. A full-scale mock exercise simulating a major earthquake response will be conducted on Friday, taking place simultaneously across all 18 participating districts of the NCR. Residents are advised not to panic if they witness a higher-than-usual presence of ambulances, fire tenders, police vehicles, and army trucks on the roads. Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Armed Forces, Civil Defence, and other agencies will be deployed at various locations. Sirens or public address systems may be used to signal the start of the exercise. Temporary facilities, including Incident command posts, staging areas, relief camps, and medical aid posts, will also be established at designated sites. Also, response teams will be conducting search and rescue drills, casualty evacuation, as a part of the preparedness drive. It is to test and improve the region's ability to respond effectively in a real crisis.
