Spain's HBX shares plunge after full-year guidance revision

CNA5 days ago
Shares in Spanish travel technology firm HBX Group plunged as much as 25.6 per cent on Wednesday, on track for their biggest-ever daily decline, after the group revised its full-year guidance as a result of the macroeconomic backdrop and a weaker U.S. dollar.
In a trading update, the company downgraded its expected 2025 revenue to between 720 million euros ($830 million) and 740 million, from a previous guidance of between 740 million euros and 790 million.
It also revised down its total transaction value, now expected to grow by 6 per cent-9 per cent instead of the 6 per cent-10 per cent projected at its initial public share offering in February.
HBX, which buys hotel lodgings, car rentals and other products and resells them in bulk to travel agencies and retailers, said the conflict in the Middle East resulted in double-digit declines in bookings for destinations such as Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
It also highlighted a 3 per cent drop in revenue in the U.S. as a result of the weaker currency and lower demand in the country.
Chief Executive Nicolas Huss said on a call with analysts the company was already seeing a strong double-digit increase in bookings for 2026, adding that recovery in the travel sector does not usually take more than one season.
After a lacklustre start on the Spanish stock exchange, shares in the company have failed to pick up and are now around 20 per cent lower than on their February debut.
The group also said in its trading update that revenue in the April-June period, the third quarter of its financial year, was up 3 per cent year-on-year.

Figma sheds $11 billion in market value days after blockbuster IPO

NEW YORK :Shares of Figma slumped 23 per cent on profit taking on Monday, as euphoria over the design software firm waned days after its blockbuster initial public offering. San Francisco, California-based Figma shares had scored a massive 250 per cent gain during their market debut on Thursday when they were priced at $33 but finished at $115.50, giving the company a market capitalization of about $56.3 billion. Figma's market value closed at $59.5 billion on Friday after its shares rose 5.6 per cent to $122. The shares traded as low as $92.75 on Monday, down 23 per cent, reducing its market value to about $45.2 billion. "The excitement for Figma's business is not over, but the euphoria that's gone into its heady stock pricing seems to be deflating as those that wanted an early piece of the action bought in during market hours while some IPO recipients are probably taking sweet profits," said Michael Ashley Schulman, chief investment officer at Running Point Capital in Los Angeles. Founded in 2012 and led by CEO Dylan Field, Figma provides cloud-based collaborative design tools, with a roster of marquee clients including Alphabet, Microsoft, Netflix and Uber. Field owns about 54.2 million Figma shares worth about $5 billion after selling 2.35 million shares in the IPO. As is common in many Silicon Valley startups, Field retains 74.1 per cent voting power over Figma given his holdings of Class B shares. Adobe had abandoned a $20 billion deal to acquire Figma in 2023 following antitrust pushback from regulators in Europe and the UK.

Satellite firm SES wins $90 million contract to support US Army

SES has won an $89.6 million contract to provide its commercial satellite communications (COMSATCOM) services to the U.S. army, the European satellite company said on Monday. Its SES Space & Defense subsidiary has been awarded the five-year deal, the company said. It will supply its strategic transport and communications network to Combat Service Support, Department of Defense (DoD) programmes, as well as additional U.S. government agencies. In May this year, the European group was selected by the U.S. DoD to deliver space-based network for improved data transmission. In July, it announced a partnership with the government of Luxembourg to develop and launch a new defence satellite.

Spotify to hike premium subscription price in select markets from September

Spotify said on Monday it would increase the monthly price of its premium individual subscription in select markets from September, as the Swedish streaming giant looks to improve margins. The subscription price will rise to 11.99 euros ($13.86) per month from 10.99 euros in markets including South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Spotify's shares rose more than 5 per cent in premarket trading. They have gained about 40 per cent so far this year. The company said subscribers will receive an email explaining the price increase over the next month. Price increases in the past, combined with cost-cutting efforts in recent years, have helped Spotify achieve its first annual profit for 2024. But the company forecast its third-quarter profit below analysts' estimates last month, as higher taxes related to employee salaries outweighed music streaming demand. It saw an increase in monthly active users and premium subscribers during the second quarter. Spotify is also benefiting from Apple's approval of the Swedish company's U.S. app update to show subscription prices and external payment links, after a judge barred the iPhone maker from charging commission on off-app purchases. The audio streaming company's CEO Daniel Ek said this change has led to "a very positive uptick" in the U.S. He also said that if similar rules are adopted in Europe and the UK, it would benefit both Spotify and other app developers. Spotify has been expanding its library of video content to attract subscribers, including through its partner program, which is designed to help podcast creators by offering them monetization options. A growing number of creators are joining the Spotify Partner Program, resulting in a significant increase in video content on our platform, Ek had earlier told Reuters. ($1 = 0.8650 euros)
