On Thursday, during the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers selected Broome with the 35th overall pick.
Broome becomes the first player from Auburn drafted into the NBA since Jabari Smith Jr. and Walker Kessler in 2022.
Last season, Broome earned SEC Player of the Year honors while becoming a consensus first-team All-American. He led Auburn to one of their best seasons in program history, ending in a Final Four appearance. The Karl Malone Award winner scored 18.6 points per game while leading the SEC in rebounds (10.8) and blocks (2.1).

An efficient scorer, Broome developed a three-point shot during his final season in Auburn. He shot 28% from deep on a career-high 2.8 treys during the 2024-25 season. Before joining Auburn in 2022, he spent two seasons with the Morehead State Eagles, winning Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player in his final year.

Broome will join a Philadelphia 76ers team that underperformed last season following a season-ending injury to former MVP Joel Embiid. Meanwhile, superstar guard Tyrese Maxey played just 52 games, while veteran Paul George failed to appear in more than half the team's games. Former first-round pick Jared McCain was also limited to just 23 games of action.
Nevertheless, Philadelphia finished the season 24-58 but will look for a bounce-back season starting next winter. In the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, the 76ers selected guard VJ Edgecombe from the Baylor Bears.

Alexi Lalas Names Clear Favorite for USA-Mexico

Alexi Lalas Names Clear Favorite for USA-Mexico originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The United States Men's National Team will meet Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final for the eighth time on Sunday. Advertisement USMNT advanced to the final with a 2-1 win against Guatemala on Wednesday, sparked by two goals from rising star Diego Luna. Mexico, the defending Gold Cup champions, followed suit by taking down Honduras 1-0. The results set up the final in Houston on Sunday, which will kick off at 7 p.m. ET on FOX. After Wednesday's semifinals set up the first USA-Mexico clash in the final since 2021, Fox Soccer analyst and former United States international Alexi Lalas did not hesitate to name the favorite for Sunday's showdown. Fox Soccer analyst Alexi Lalas believes the US squad is the underdog in the Gold Cup Lee-Imagn Images Lalas named the United States as "absolute underdogs," taking it a step further by claiming that a loss would be "embarrassing" for Mexico as a nation. Advertisement Across seven previous meetings in the Gold Cup final, Mexico holds a definitive 5-2 record in the cross-border series. Lalas, 55, cited the "realities of the situation," referring to the rosters of both teams. Mexico entered the tournament with a mostly full-strength squad, while Mauricio Pochettino and USMNT had to deal with the absences of European-based stars who chose to sit out. Christian Pulisic was the most controversial absentee, but the Yanks are also competing without several other players expected to have key roles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, such as Weston McKennie, Timothy Weah, Antonee Robinson and Sergino Dest. Advertisement In their stead, Luna and Malik Tillman have emerged as the leaders of the USMNT en route to the final. They have both recorded three goals and two assists in the tournament. Defender Cesar Montes is Mexico's leading scorer at the Gold Cup with three goals. Recent QB ranking finally gives Jalen Hurts long overdue recognition

He has a lifetime rating of 93.5 and a career completion percentage of 64.4. While both statistics could be improved, they could also be worse. However, a quarterback's most valuable qualities are their leadership skills and ability to lead the team to victory, particularly when they are the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Consider this: they are the only position in football that has a win-loss record associated with their names. Cornerbacks do not have that distinction. No one asks for a middle linebacker's winning percentage as a starter. Advertisement Still, even with that being said, there are other metrics for measuring and evaluating the job a good quarterback is doing. Often, it isn't an apples-to-apples comparison. How good is the team around him? Is he elevating teammates or being carried by them? If you've been paying attention, these are all discussions we have entertained about Jalen Hurts (and pretty much every other NFL QB). Ranking offensive signal-callers vs. one another is an exercise conducted by football junkies all year. Recently, another quarterback ranking crossed the airwaves. This one stood out because it offered something we aren't used to: a respectable evaluation of Philadelphia's leader on offense. Jalen Hurts lands fifth on FOX Sports' top ten QBs in the NFL What were we thinking? We thought, after the Super Bowl, that Jalen Hurts would finally get his due. We thought there would always be criticism, but we believed it might simmer down. Here we are. Things haven't changed much. Advertisement Marcus Spears stated Jayden Daniels would be the NFC East's best QB by season's end. Sure, Daniels is good, but he has yet to beat Hurts in a head-to-head matchup that both have started and finished. Spears isn't alone in his theory, though. Another recent ranking slighted Hurts out of the top spot among quarterbacks in the division. Thank Heaven for a recent ranking crafted by Fox Sports. Hurts gets the credit he deserves in that one. "Hurts made his second Super Bowl and won his first ring last season. That being said, he wasn't as prolific of a passer in 2024 as he threw for a career-low (since being named a full-time starter) of 2,903 passing yards and 18 touchdowns. Those numbers were more of a function of the Philadelphia Eagles' successful commitment to their running game, which included Hurts rushing for 630 yards and 14 touchdowns and Saquon Barkley rushing for a career-high 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns." The Eagles star lands behind Josh Allen, who topped the list, Patrick Mahomes (ranked second), Lamar Jackson (third), and Joe Burrow (fourth). He lands ahead of Jared Goff (sixth), Baker Mayfield (seventh), Justin Herbert (eighth), Jayden Daniels (ninth), and Dak Prescott (tenth). We can debate the order in which guys should fall. These lists are always subjective, but if someone's theory is that Hurts is the fifth-best quarterback behind Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, and Burrow, that's at least a theory that we can digest without falling ill. Did Bronny James retire? Explaining post about 20-year-old Lakers guard's NBA future

The Los Angeles Lakers' 20-year-old guard, Bronny James, didn't experience the most action-packed rookie campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers this past season. In 27 games with the Lakers in 2024-25, James contributed 2.3 points, 0.8 assists, and 0.7 rebounds per game, connecting on 31.3% of his field goals and 28.1% of his three-point jumpers. Advertisement However, the Cleveland, Ohio native performed well with the South Bay Lakers in the NBA G League, averaging 21.9 points, 5.4 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per contest, shooting 44.0% from the field and 38.0% from beyond the arc. James, who suffered a cardiac arrest before the start of his freshman campaign at USC, declared for the 2024 NBA draft in controversial fashion. The son of arguably the greatest player of all time, LeBron, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game during his lone season with the Trojans, shooting 36.6% from the field and 26.7% from three-point land. Still, the Lakers selected James with the No. 55 overall pick, enabling him to compete with his role model at the highest level of basketball. Advertisement Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp According to the popular X/Twitter account NBA Centel, however, James surprisingly announced his retirement from basketball after just one season. Did Bronny James retire? No, James did not retire following his first campaign in the big leagues. The former McDonald's All-American still has a ways to go before he reaches his full potential, but he's expected to make a significant leap with the Lakers in Year 2. Starting July. 5, James will receive valuable Summer League reps with the Lakers as he prepares for his sophomore season. While it's unclear how long James will last in the NBA, it's safe to say the journey hasn't ended yet.
