Disney Releases More Details On Its New Cars-Themed Land
entire land dedicated to Pixar's
Cars
at its Magic Kingdom Park in Orlando. Aside from a few illustrations that, actually, looked pretty awesome, the details were otherwise scarce. But today, the company has revealed new information on its next big expansion—including a name.
Say goodbye to Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America (RIP), and say hello to Piston Peak National Park (which, you probably don't remember, was a real place in Disney's
Planes: Fire & Rescue
movie). The new
Cars
area will be ripe with thick pine forests and snowy mountain peaks, and include a river that runs through the entire land. It will be the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom.

Disney Imagineers drew inspiration from America's national parks for this new land, with the Piston Peak mountain range inspired by Colorado's Rocky Mountains. The faux national park will also include a visitor's lodge, a Ranger headquarters, and walking trails alongside two designated
Cars
attractions.
The first attraction, an off-road rally-style ride, will allow guests to weave through the forests and over Piston Peak on a trackless ride vehicle with new characters from the
Cars
franchise. Disney promises it will be "just like a real race." A second, yet-to-be-named attraction will be geared toward smaller children and families.

Piston Peak National Park will extend from Liberty Square all the way to Tiana's Bayou Adventure and toward the updated Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster, which is set to re-open sometime in 2026. Guests who want to experience Tom Sawyer Island and the Riverboat before work begins on the new land have until July 7.
Disney hasn't said exactly when the new land will open. But for such a massive expansion, don't expect to see anything until at least 2027 or 2028.

'Percy Jackson' Season 2 trailer teases 'massive' action, key newcomers
SAN DIEGO – Percy Jackson is setting sail for a second season of monstrous adventure, with some new blood coming along for the voyage. A Comic-Con panel for the Disney+ series 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' premiered a Season 2 teaser that featured a ton of action and the first look at Tyson, the fan-favorite cyclops from Rick Riordan's book series. In a video message, Riordan announced the new season will premiere on Disney+ December 10. This next chapter finds Percy (Walker Scobell), the son of sea god Poseidon, embarking on a quest to the Sea of Monsters to find his kidnapped best friend Grover (Aryan Simhadri). He's also seeking the Golden Fleece – a mystical artifact that can heal anything and anyone – in order to save his home, Camp Half-Blood, from the villainous likes of Luke (Charlie Bushnell) and Titan Kronos (Nick Boraine). While they're on the march to take down Olympus, Percy gets help on his odyssey from pals Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn) as well as his half-brother Tyson (Daniel Diemer). Riordan also announced a few young Season 3 newcomers. Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie will play Nico di Angelo and his sister Bianca, the demigod children of Hades (Jay Duplass). The first season was 'an American road trip,' said executive producer Jon Steinberg, and in Season 2, 'you are in the fantasy, and magic is in every direction. Anything is possible, and it's an adventure form start to finish.' He also teased a chariot race track built for a 'massive' sequence that was 'the biggest thing we've ever shot, practically.' That moment also impressed Timothy Simons, who plays Camp Half-Blood activities director Tantalus. 'I'm used to being on shabby comedies,' said the "Veep" and "Nobody Wants This" actor. "I've never been on anything that had a fire budget.' Simons also got to pet and feed a horse: 'It was an incredible day.' Cast members revealed where their characters are heading in the Season 2. Grover has 'never been alone,' Simhadri said, and when he's captured, it's the first time 'he doesn't have people to rely on. He has to step up and fend for himself, and that's something we've never seen from him.' Jeffries said Annabeth, the child of Athena who was rather stoic in the first season, will 'be vulnerable and open up' to Percy on their journey. And Goodjohn touted a larger role for Clarisse, the daughter of god of war Ares. While she's 'a one-dimensional bully' in the book series, Goodjohn said that the new season digs into the 'traumatic experiences' that made Clarisse who she is, in a 'beautiful arc.' As a newcomer, Diemer had 'the time of my life' playing the powerful, innocent and deeply lovable Tyson. Coming in as a fan who grew up on Riordan's books, 'the whole idea was to create a cyclops baby with a huge heart but dealing with the complexity of his past.' Simhadri admitted one of his favorite bits in Season 2 involves him wearing a wedding dress, while Scobell and Diemer reminisced about doing the iconic 'Titanic' scene while filming on an ironclad, with Scobell holding his co-star's waist while Diemer flung his arms out, Kate Winslet-style. 'It brought us closer,' Scobell quipped. Diemer replied: 'Very different from the brotherly relationship. It was nice.' There were some big changes during the long break between seasons (the first ended in January 2024). Simhadri joked he 'grew a few feet," while Scobell added, 'It's nice to take a lot of time away and grow and experience real life again and then come back and film.' Scobell, 16, still has to attend school during production. He remembers one day filming a big battle scene where he was the only actor who needed to go to class. 'Everyone would be fighting, and there were all these cries for help and pain. And in my mind, I'd be trying to kill this dude,' he recalled. 'I'd be in school (later) and I'd still hear that, people begging for their life. It's a weird thing to switch off.'

STAR WARS Fans Are Theorizing That Krennic Was in the Original Trilogy All Along... Kinda — GeekTyrant
Leave it to Star Wars fans to find meaning in an empty chair. A new fan theory making the rounds suggests that Rogue One villain Director Orson Krennic may have been quietly in the original trilogy this whole time. The theory hinges on a single shot from 1977's A New Hope , specifically during the infamous Death Star conference room scene where Vader force-chokes Admiral Motti and asserts his dominance over the room. One thing that stands out is an unoccupied seat at the table. On April 29, Reddit user OkuroIshimoto posted a still of the scene to the Star Wars subreddit with the caption: 'Hearing a lot of headcanons that this seat was Krennic's. Any other theories?' It didn't take long for the comments to roll in. One user responded: 'I could be wrong, but I think I remember one of the From a Certain Point of View stories describing how Admiral Motti (or Tagge) glanced over at Krennic's empty seat in the briefing. Presumably, the author of that short story intended for this empty seat to be the one they meant.' Another chimed in to confirm: 'God damn, yes, this should be the top comment lmao. It isn't a fan theory, it's confirmed in a canon book as being his seat. It was Tagge though that looked over at Krennic's empty seat.' Some fans embraced the idea instantly. 'I like the headcanon that it was for Krennic! Never thought of that but it makes sense. He died the day before, right??' 'I'd never heard this before, but I like it. RIP Krennic. Perhaps when there's ever a 'Very Special Edition' there will be a black band draped over the chair in memory of the fallen director.' Others were more skeptical, arguing the empty chair was likely a practical decision made by the crew while blocking the scene. One user joked: 'Honestly, yeah, the visual of Vader just sitting in a chair with a bunch of rank-and-file guys really doesn't work. He only looks intimidating if he's standing up and striding around with his cloak swooshing behind him.' Still, there's some interesting connective tissue here. In canon, the Death Star briefing takes place not long after the events of Rogue One , which ends with the Battle of Scarif and the destruction of Krennic along with much of the Empire's project leadership. It's not a stretch to imagine that the seat was originally his. And now that Ben Mendelsohn has returned as Krennic in Andor Season 2 on Disney+, fans are once again appreciating just how integral and underrated his role is in the saga. Even if it's just a chair, the idea that Krennic's presence lingers in A New Hope adds another layer to the Empire's crumbling bureaucracy, and to his legacy as the man who built the Death Star, only to be destroyed by it. So was that empty seat his? Canon might suggest yes. But even if it wasn't, Star Wars fans have never needed much to keep a theory alive. Just give them an empty chair.
