Student hit by bus while using zebra crossing
Despite being hurled many metres by the impact, the young woman survived and is recovering in hospital.
The accident occurred about 5:24pm on June 26 near Vachiraphayaban intersection. The student is seen walking on the pedestrian crossing and emerging from between the stopped cars. A bus travelling rapidly in the outside lane hits her, sending her flying.
The video was posted on Facebook on Wednesday and quickly drew widespread attention. Commenters expressed concern for the student's well-being and accused the bus driver of reckless behaviour. Some accused the driver of travelling against the traffic flow in that lane.
Later, a Facebook user claiming to be the injured student posted an update, saying she was safe and currently receiving treatment in hospital.

‘Look for somebody with plenty of credit cards': Jailed Philippine leader Duterte's message to his ‘girlfriends'
Rodrigo's 'girlfriends' have become a source of headache for the Duterte family. Many of them have travelled to the Hague over the past weeks to meet the former president but they were not allowed to enter the facility read more Former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte delivers a speech during the proclamation rally for his political party PDP-Laban's senatorial candidates ahead of the midterm elections, at Club Filipino in San Juan, Metro Manila, Philippines, February 13, 2025. Reuters Former Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte, who is already facing a war crimes trial in the Hague, has a new headache knocking at his door: More than a dozen women who allegedly had relationships with the self-proclaimed 80-year-old womaniser. Rodrigo's son Paolo Duterte on Monday (June 30) visited his father at the ICC and passed on a message from the former president to all the women seeking to meet him in the Hague: 'To all his girlfriends – look for somebody else. Somebody with plenty of credit cards.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD It was not clear how many women Rodrigo dated but Paolo claimed to know of at least 13 in the city of Davao alone. His brother and Davao's acting mayor Sebastian meanwhile said there were only four—Duterte's former wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, his current partner Cielito 'Honeylet' Avancena, Balaba and Egan. 'All of these fine ladies touched the life and heart of my father. No one is above or below the other, including my mother. It is what it is,' wrote Sebastian in a Facebook post. Meanwhile, Duterte's daughter and Vice-President Sara Duterte said in June that her father was 'smart' because 'when he separated from my mother, he didn't marry again … And therefore, now, nobody can claim Rodrigo Duterte because they're just all equally girlfriends.' The women have become a source of headache for the Duterte family. Several of them have travelled to the Hague over the past weeks to meet the former president but they were not allowed to enter the facility. On June 20, Veronica 'Kitty' Duterte, the 20-year-old youngest daughter of Rodrigo Duterte, posted on Instagram, sharply criticising an unnamed individual for attempting to get close to her father. Without disclosing the person's identity or gender, she condemned their 'audacity' for claiming to have performed duties for Duterte, accusing them of posing as his partner to gain access, visit him, and extract information for potentially harmful purposes. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The post sparked widespread speculation among Duterte's supporters. Online discussions pointed to two individuals: Joyleen 'Girlie' Balaba, a 52-year-old councillor from Cagayan de Oro, and Jasmin 'Jasy' Egan, a former protocol officer at the presidential palace. Both reportedly travelled to The Hague recently. Nuelle Duterte, a psychiatrist and the former president's niece, shared with This Week in Asia that 'Girlie Balaba was an open secret in Davao City, widely known as one of his girlfriends. I saw her once at a local hospital in Davao when I was a medical student, and she was identified as 'Digong's [Rodrigo's] girlfriend'.' Rodrigo Duterte has remained evasive on the issue. When questioned by his son Paolo about Egan, he reportedly dismissed any connection, stating they had no 'relation.' Paolo recounted his father's lighthearted remark: 'They're not cousins, they're not siblings, so there's no relation.' Notably, Duterte was transferred to the Netherlands on March 12 to face charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC) related to his role in the deadly 'war on drugs' campaign. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD During his presidency, Duterte publicly urged law enforcement to pursue and eliminate individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal drug trade. The war crimes trial could see him sentenced up to 30 years in jail.

Meta is experimenting with AI chatbots might slide into your DMs by texting you first
Meta is reportedly working on customisable AI chatbots that may unexpectedly slide into your DMs by texting you first. These chatbots will also remember the things you have said and even follow up on past conversations. The feature, which was first spotted by Business Insider and later confirmed by Meta itself, is part of what the data labelling firm Alignerr refers to as 'Project Omni'. According to the project guidelines, it will 'provide value for users and ultimately help to improve re-engagement and user retention.' For example, an AI chatbot that goes by the name 'The Maestro of Movie Magic' might send a message that says, 'I hope you're having a harmonious day! I wanted to check in and see if you've discovered any new favourite soundtracks or composers recently. Or perhaps you'd like some recommendations for your next movie night? Let me know, and I'll be happy to help!' In a statement to the publication, a Meta spokesperson said, 'After you initiate a conversation, AIs in Meta AI Studio can follow up with you to share ideas or ask additional questions. This allows you to continue exploring topics of interest and engage in more meaningful conversations with the AIs across our apps.' However, these AI chatbots will only text you if you initiate a conversation with them, and won't contact the user if they don't reply. As of now, the window for the follow-up message is set at 14 days after the initial message, and for the chatbot to send a follow-up, the user must have sent at least five messages in the timer period. 'This allows you to continue exploring topics of interest and engage in more meaningful conversations with the AIs across our apps', the spokesperson added. The feature is intended for chatbots developed using Meta's AI Studio, a platform that can be standalone and is also accessible via Instagram. Launched last year, it is a no-code platform that allows anyone to build their own customised chatbots and personas with personalities and memories. Using Meta AI Studio, users can create personalised chatbots like a chef that can suggest recipes or an interior designer that gives you decor advice. For creators and influencers, these chatbots can even handle fan interactions and reply to messages. These bots can either be kept private for personal use or shared with the public via stories and direct links. You can also choose them to display on your Facebook or Instagram profile. Meta's experimental chatbots are quite similar to those offered by and Replika, both of which allow AI chatbots to initiate conversations and ask questions. When TechCrunch asked Meta how it plans to make sure its AI chatbots are safe, a spokesperson redirected the publication to a bunch of disclaimers, one of which says that these chatbots 'may be inaccurate or inappropriate and should not be used to make important decisions' and they are not licensed professionals or experts. Meta's newest feature aims to align with CEO Mark Zuckerberg's ambitions to fight the 'loneliness epidemic'. Earlier this year, court documents revealed that Meta predicted that its generative AI-powered products would help it add another $2 billion to $3 billion in revenue this year, with estimations claiming that the business would account for up to $1.4 trillion by 2035. This means that the company might eventually insert advertisements in its AI offering and further monetise them by offering a subscription service. However, there is currently no news on how the company plans to commercialise these AI chatbots.

Pune Man Threatened By Raj Thackeray Party Workers Over Social Media Post
Pune: Amidst the ongoing Marathi-non-Marathi row, a group of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers allegedly entered a man's residence in the Vanaz area of the city on Thursday and threatened to assault him over an objectionable social media post targeting MNS chief Raj Thackeray. The man, identified as Kedar Soman, had reportedly posted a comment on Facebook that MNS workers found offensive and disrespectful to their leader. Enraged by the post, a group of party workers led by senior Pune MNS leader Hemchandra Sambhush gathered outside Soman's flat. The group allegedly barged into the residential premises, shouting abuses and threats, and demanded that Soman come out of his house. However, upon seeing the aggressive mob, Soman locked himself inside his flat, avoiding a physical confrontation. A video of the incident also went viral on social media. The situation quickly escalated, with MNS workers threatening to beat him if he dared to step outside. The commotion attracted the attention of residents, prompting police intervention. The Pune Police promptly arrived at the location and managed to bring the situation under control before it escalated into violence. While speaking to ANI, MNS leader Hemchandra Sambhush said, "Kedar Soman made objectionable post about our leader, we reached out to his residence after verifying his identity to teach him a lesson but before we could do anything police also reached there took him in responded to this incident in MNS style first we request with folded hand if person doesn't understands us than we slap,...yes we could found us than we would beat him for sure ... he not only commented Raj Thackeray but also against Uddhav Thackeray.. therefore I am sure this act by him was politically motivated ". In an interesting turn, Pune Police have booked Kedar Soman under cyber law, confirming that an investigation is underway into the content of his social media post that allegedly triggered the confrontation. Authorities are examining whether his post violated any laws related to public order or communal harmony. Earlier, a video of a 48-year-old sweet shop owner in Mumbai's Mira Road being assaulted allegedly by a group of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers for not speaking Marathi went viral on social media, sparking a debate over political vigilantism in the state.
