Sikh high priests in Amritsar lift ban on Dhadrianwale's preaching after he expresses regret over controversial remarks
AMRITSAR: Accepting the plea for forgiveness made by Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale before the five Sikh high priests, they lifted the five-year-old
ban
on his religious congregations during a meeting held on Wednesday. This came after Dhadrianwale expressed regret over his controversial statements regarding
gurmat
(the Gurus' tenets).
A meeting of Sikh high priests, including the officiating Jathedar of
Akal Takht
,
Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj
,
Giani Rajdeep Singh
, Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, Baba Tek Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Joginder Singh, head granthi of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, and Giani Gurbakhshish Singh, granthi of Akal Takht, was held at the Akal Takht secretariat.
While lifting the ban, the high priests instructed him to strictly adhere to Akal Takht-approved Sikh Rehat Maryada, traditions, and historical Sakhis (orally narrated historical account generally pertaining to times of Sikh Gurus).
It was in 2020 that the Akal Takht had asked the community to maintain distance from Dhadrianwale for misinterpreting 'Gurbani' and rejecting Sikh customs until he tendered an apology.
Dhadrianwale is seen to be a rival of Harnam Singh Dhuma, the head of Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal.
In another decision, the Sikh high priests directed Sant Singh, president of the management committee of Gurdwara Sahib Baba Buddha Ji in Hamilton, Canada, to appear before Akal Takht in the case of the alleged harassment of Parminderpal Kaur, wife of Gurpreet Singh.

They also directed two patit (apostate) office-bearers—treasurer Kulwinder Singh Multani and secretary Jas Sohal—to submit their clarification in writing.
Former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Harvinder Singh Sarna also appeared before the five Sikh high priests and expressed remorse over his inappropriate remarks about Sikh scholars and clergy. His repentance was accepted with the condition that he perform daily recitations of two Japji Sahib and two Chaupai Sahib paths for 11 days and offer "Karah Prasad" worth Rs 501 at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib Delhi upon completion of the sewa, according to the resolution.
Former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Gurmukh Singh, also sought forgiveness for his role in controversial pardon to Dera Sirsa head Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The Sikh high priests accepted his apology on the condition that he performed daily sewa (voluntary service) of dishwashing at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji Langar and the shoe service for one hour each.
In another resolution, the Sikh high priests held an employee of Gurdwara Sri Rakabganj Sahib, Delhi, guilty of immoral conduct with a female employee and declared him no longer eligible to hold any service in the institution.

US tariff hike threatens Kerala's export economy, says state finance minister
Thiruvananthapuram: Finance minister K N Balagopal warned that the 25% tariff imposed by the United States on Indian products could seriously hurt Kerala's economy. The higher tariff would badly impact exports of key products like marine foods, spices, and tea, he said. Balagopal said the US-led trade war with countries worldwide would cause a major crisis in global trade and economy, hitting India hard. He made these remarks while inaugurating a seminar on 'Post-Covid Development Challenges and Response: Through the lens of Kerala budgets,' organized by Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation. He added that developed countries like the US and Australia are pressuring the Union govt to open up the markets for agricultural products, milk and milk-based products. Reports suggest that Australia can sell milk in India at a much cheaper rate (Rs 30/litre). If cheaper milk floods Kerala's market, local milk producers could face serious difficulties. He criticized the campaign that Kerala is in a debt trap and its total debt has mounted to Rs 6 trillion. "This is absolutely baseless and a section of experts had been spreading false information about the debt status of Kerala through social media platforms," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo He clarified that Kerala's total debt at the end of FY 2025-26 would be around Rs 4,70,000 crore. According to the trend prevailing over the last three decades, Kerala's total debt has doubled in every five years. Kerala's debt could have crossed Rs 6 trillion as per this cyclical trend, he added. Economist M A Oommen added that Kerala's fiscal condition has worsened due to repeated natural disasters and the Covid pandemic, which have severely impacted the state's finances.

Rahul-Tejashwi ‘yatra' against SIR postponed
Patna: The much-publicised "Vote Adhikar Yatra," which was to be jointly launched by leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Bihar assembly opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav , has been postponed due to "unavoidable reasons". The yatra, originally scheduled for Aug, was intended to raise awareness about voting rights and "expose" the functioning of the Election Commission. "Information was issued to the media on Monday regarding the 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' programme, but now the yatra has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons," read a letter issued by RJD state principal general secretary Ranvijay Sahu. "This notice should be considered void until the announcement of a new date," the letter added. However, Tejashwi clarified that the decision to defer the yatra followed the death of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha founder and former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren. "We had to reschedule the yatra programme due to the death of the former Jharkhand CM," Tejashwi told reporters on Tuesday, adding that a revised schedule would be announced soon. According to sources, the yatra, planned as a joint initiative by two major INDIA bloc allies, the RJD and Congress, was being positioned as a grassroots movement in defence of voting rights. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo It also aimed to strongly oppose the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being undertaken in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The campaign was being widely seen as a launchpad for the opposition's election drive and a means to energise party workers across the state. The sudden postponement, however, has sparked questions about the rationale behind the decision. "We don't understand the reason behind its postponement. The JMM leader died on Monday and the Jharkhand govt declared three days of state mourning, ending on Aug 6. But the yatra was to begin on Aug 10. So, the postponement move looks strange," said an analyst.
