Azadi OTT Release: Where to watch Sreenath Bhasi and Vani Vishwanath's Malayalam film online after theatres

Time of India18-05-2025
Azadi OTT Release: Sreenath Bhasi's upcoming Malayalam film may still be gearing up for its big-screen debut on May 23, but fans who prefer streaming from the comfort of home won't have to wait long. The makers have already locked in ManoramaMAX as the OTT platform for the film's digital release.
That's right, unlike many Malayalam films that wait until after the theatrical run to sort out streaming deals, Azadi has managed to tie up its digital rights even before hitting cinemas. This is a rare move in the current Malayalam film industry, where movies usually wait to see how they perform at the box office before landing an OTT partner.
Only a few other titles, like Officer on Duty and Thudarum, managed the same. If trends are anything to go by, Azadi is expected to drop on Manorama Max about four weeks after its theatrical release, so you can likely stream it by late June.
What is Azadi all about?
Azadi is not your everyday drama. This one's a jail thriller unfolding inside a hospital and blending themes of survival, justice, and revenge. The trailer hints at some intense drama where we see veteran actor Lal playing a father on a mission for justice, while Raveena, a renowned voice artist, plays a pregnant prisoner accused of killing a political leader's son in cold blood.
Sreenath Bhasi leads the film with a dark, brooding performance, and actress Vani Viswanath plays a strong, no-nonsense cop, a role that harks back to her iconic performances in films like The King and Black Daliya. The supporting cast also includes Saiju Kurup, Vijayakumar, Mala Parvathi, Gilu Joseph, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, TG Ravi and Rajesh Sharma among others.
Who's behind Azadi?
Azadi is the directorial debut of Jo George, with its screenplay coming from writer Sagar, known for films like Veekam and Sathyam Mathrame Bodhippikku. The project is produced by Faizal Raja under the Little Crew Production banner, with Remis Raja and Resmi Faizal as co-producers. This Varun Unni musical is cinematographed by Saneesh Stanly and edited by Noufal Abdullah.

This Kerala woman weaves her dreams into fashion

From the heart of Edappal, a town in Malappuram district of Kerala, a dream has blossomed into a reality as Aswathy Balakrishnan etches her name in the world of bridal fashion designing. With a vision to weave magic on fabric, Aswathy embarked on her journey in 2023 by setting up a studio, Avaanah, in a rented room with an investment of ₹6 lakh she secured through a loan. From a modest start with just two assistants, her designs quickly captured the hearts of hundreds of brides. Today, Avaanah is synonymous with exquisite bridal wear. Her bridal dresses are sought after in countries like Australia, the U.K., the U.S.A, the UAE and Ireland. With materials sourced from northern India, Aswathy's designer creations like lehengas, gowns and sarees are priced between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000. Her traditional Christian bridal dresses are particularly popular abroad. As Aswathy looks back on her journey, she beams with pride. She has not only built a successful brand, but also created opportunities for many and inspired others to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. Her confidence received a major boost from early clients like playback singers Sithara Krishnakumar, Mridula Warrier, Rimi Tomy, actors Sneha Sreekumar, Shruthi Rajanikanth and Veena Nandakumar. Hailing from Thaikkattussery near Thrissur, Aswathy's journey into fashion designing was fuelled by her innate passion for art. She pursued a diploma in fashion designing and nurtured her creative talent beyond her Zoology and Malayalam academic background. However, it was only after her marriage and relocation to Edappal that she discovered her niche in bridal designing, marking the beginning of her journey with Avaanah. She praised the Taluk Industries Centre and the Kudumbashree for their supportive roles. 'They provided consistent encouragement, clear guidance and helped in easy facilitation of loans,' she says. Aswathy's experience serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring entrepreneurs who often face bureaucratic hurdles. She debunks the myth that government aid is only limited to joint or small ventures. The District Industries Centre, she says, provides valuable guidance to start-up aspirants. 'Women should seize this opportunity,' she advises aspiring female entrepreneurs. Her inspiring story was recently shared at an interaction with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during the State government's fourth anniversary celebrations at Malappuram.

Radhika Madan says she fought for her role in Angrezi Medium, shot with ‘nakli Irrfan Khan': ‘It was the year of star kids, Homi Adajania was irritated'

Angrezi Medium marked the final on-screen appearance of the legendary actor Irrfan Khan. For actress Radhika Madan, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share the screen with him—one she didn't stumble upon by chance, but rather, fought for it. In her latest vlog, filmmaker Farah Khan paid a visit to Radhika's home, where the two bonded over a Delhi-style breakfast of aloo puri and buttermilk. Between laughs and ladles, Farah asked Radhika how she landed a role in Angrezi Medium and the answer left her surprised. 'I had signed my first film and had three months before it began,' Radhika recalled. 'I didn't know how to kill time, so I started giving auditions just for fun, thinking, 'Who's going to cast me anyway?'' When it came to Angrezi Medium, she revealed, 'They had already locked someone else. But I went, fought, and irritated them, saying, 'Please take my audition!'' Initially hesitant, director Homi Adajania was told by his team that Radhika didn't fit the role. 'They told me, 'Ma'am, we're looking for a 17-year-old.' But I insisted. I was adamant. It irritated Homi and he finally said, 'Fine, take her audition.'' Radhika shared this was the year of star kids and she didn't think she will land the role. To which Radhika replied with a shrug, 'I don't know.' Farah laughed and quipped, 'People keep saying star kids don't let outsiders work… but actually, Radhika is the real culprit. She stole a star kid's role.' Radhika burst into laughter and said, 'Honestly, I just wanted to show off to my friends that I auditioned for the film.' She went through six rounds of auditions, including one with a 'nakli' Irrfan Khan. Farah interrupted with a mischievous grin, 'Are you sure that wasn't Babil?', prompting even more laughter from Radhika. But getting the part wasn't the end of her efforts. 'They asked me to lose 12 kilos, and I did,' she said. 'Most people don't know that I had gained weight earlier for Pataakha and other roles. This is my real weight.' Radhika also opened up about how she accidentally entered the world of acting. 'I was approached through Facebook to audition in Delhi. It was at a shady location, and I thought it was a scam. I even took my friends along, ready to beat someone up. But it turned out to be legit. Three days later, I got a call. I did a look test, and on the fifth day, I was shooting my first TV show.'
