Tyrone takeaway conned out of £150 through hoax call: ‘People are going to great lengths'
An order was placed with Pappa G's Pizza in Omagh for large pizzas to be delivered to a local pub by someone purporting to be the bar owner. Suspecting nothing untoward, the order was honoured and it was only when trying to make the delivery the call was revealed as a hoax. Speaking to the Tyrone Herald, a member of staff at the fast food shop said 'people are going to great lengths to create false orders' and lessons have been learned. Rather than allow the pizzas to go to waste, they were donated to a local hospital. On Saturday, Pappa G's posted a message on social media aimed at the culprit. 'Attention to the very sad individual who thought ringing in last night with a hoax order using a local publicans/ business name to order a large number of pizzas to be delivered to a bar in town," it read. 'Well your negative actions have turned into a positive, your hoax order was delivered to the patients and staff of the Tyrone & Fermanagh hospital which we hope they thoroughly enjoyed. 'We fulfilled this order happily as party catering is a big part of our business and standard practice at the weekend. 'A piece of advice for the hoax caller 'if you have nothing better to do with your time, we are a very busy pizza shop and are constantly growing our team so get in touch to either pay for this order or come and do an honest day's work which I think may benefit you better in the long run.' Watch: Planes struggle to land at Belfast City Airport as Storm Floris hits NI The PSNI confirmed it is aware that fast food outlets in the Omagh area were receiving 'bogus calls' on Saturday afternoon. 'The caller has been placing orders for a substantial amount of food (party/catering quantities) and then failing to collect or make payment,' a spokesperson said. 'If you receive a large food order please conduct whatever checks you can to ensure that you are dealing with a legitimate customer. Note the name, jot down the number and maybe consider a ring back if you're unsure.' The business affected later took the opportunity to thank everyone for reading, sharing and commenting on their online post. 'Thank you to the people that private messaged our page, called into the store or phoned to share their frustration, to the people who looked to make a donation towards the order,' it added. "We really do have the best customers.'
