I tried Britain's priciest fish and chips – it costs £65, weighs 2.2kg & no one has EVER finished it alone – could you?

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BRITAIN'S priciest fish and chips costs £65, weighs up to 2.2kg and puts foodies firmly in their plaice – as no one can finish it. Hungry diners need a bread knife to cut the super supper at Archie's Fish & Chips in Minster, Kent. The mega-meal — thought to be the country's largest — has gone viral online, racking up more than 12million views on TikTok. And as a lifelong fish and chips fanatic, grabbing a portion was high on my 'to do' list after I moved back to the UK from California earlier this year. Living in Los Angeles for years, I'd switched to a diet consisting mainly of red meat, eggs and dairy, with few carbs — and very definitely no chips. I'd also worked fasting on Wednesdays into my routine. So it was a perfect storm when I was asked to try finishing Archie's extra large cod meal this week. To be fair, I was pretty hungry as I settled down to tuck in. So much so that, when the humongous platter was laid in front of me, I felt confident I could put a severe dent in it — if not finish the lot. Maybe the old me could have coped, but I'm a changed man. And despite the meal being delicious, I had to throw in the towel a quarter of the way through, boxing up the leftovers for friends and family to enjoy. Archie's owners, Alex Povalyaev, 44, and his wife Natalia, 52, say they came up with the chippy challenge when pals visited them in April last year. I visited the seaside town with the UK's best fish and chips Now word has spread and diners come from as far afield as Peru, California and Germany to give it a go. Mum-of-two Natalia, originally from Moscow, told me: 'Our friends came to visit us and we wanted to surprise them. "Alex found the 2.2kg fish, we cooked it, filmed making it and posted it on TikTok — then it went viral. "It's got almost 4million views, and then people started asking for it, so we decided to put it on the menu and it became really popular. 'People see the big fish meal on TikTok and want to try it.' Owner Alex now gets stopped on the street by fans wanting his photo because the extra large cod meal has become so famous. Customers are advised to pre-order the dish to ensure the shop has a big enough piece of fish ready to fry. Each fillet usually weighs between 1.5kg and 2.2kg after it has been battered, compared to a standard cod portion which typically comes in at 300g. Describing how the big dish is just too filling for diners, Natalia said: 'We had one guy message us to ask if he could do it for a challenge. 'If he could manage it, it would be free and, if not, he would pay. 'He almost finished it. He ate all the fish, but he couldn't finish the sides and chips. 'He was a big guy, but he couldn't do it. We're still waiting for someone who can. I'd love to see it done.' 4 The mega fish is served up by Archies Fish & Chips, Minster, Kent Credit: Gary Stone

I quit my job to claim benefits & spend the summer holidays with my kids – I'll be better off not working

The mum said not working would be 'more beneficial' for her family NO KIDDING I quit my job to claim benefits & spend the summer holidays with my kids – I'll be better off not working A BUSY mum has revealed she ditched her job to look after her kids over the summer holidays. Loren Jade decided it would be more beneficial to stay at home rather than work, since she had no one else to help with her little ones. In the viral clip, she revealed she has no one else in the picture to lend a hand, which always left her in a sticky situation over the school holidays. So, the mum planned and paid for her kids to spend most of their time off school at various holiday clubs. "I had it all planned out, I knew exactly where the kids would be," she explained. But as the time got closer, the realisation that she wouldn't see her little ones over the summer holidays and that she'd be spending all of her hard-earned money on childcare hit her "like a ton of bricks." "I cannot force my son who has got SEN needs and a four year old to go to holiday clubs the whole of the six weeks holidays," she said. So, Loren decided to leave her job to look after her kids, which she said worked out better for her. In the comment section of the video, the mum noted that she doesn't currently receive DLA [Disability Living Allowance for children] which is partly why it works out cheaper for her to stay at home and help her son. At the end of the clip, the mum said she would still need to work though, but wasn't sure what her next career move would be. Keen for something out of her comfort zone, the mum said she would try to be a social media influencer on TikTok and asked viewers to follow her so she could give it a good shot. After sharing her decision to quit her job other parents were quick to share their experiences in the comment section of the clip. Kathryn Thomas reveals 'mistake' she made during school run One said: "Sometimes not working actually has more benefits than working. In my case, I have a child with a disability. "I worked for 11 years, and it was exhausting – I was losing myself and my child in the process. Staying home with him turned out to be the best decision." And another mum shared her solution for working during the summer holidays, she said: "I started up as self employed part time cleaner. "I'm on my own basically with no help around me, my six year old SEN is not in school so she comes to work with me. She cant be with others so she cant even do holiday clubs." And someone else said: "I'm having to send my son to holiday club every day as a single mum and I feel so bad as he does not want to go and every morning is a battle." "It's so hard, you work to provide for your family, yet are worse off for working! Its crazy! I'm in the same situation," someone else commented on the clip.

Aldi is selling £14.99 tool that banishes creases & transforms your clothes in seconds – plus is half of Philips' price

THERE'S a new laundry lifesaver in town that's perfect for keeping your clothes crease-free on the go - and it's half the price of Philips' version. The Ambiano Handheld Garment Steamer from Aldi gets to work in seconds and tackles everything from curtains to shirts. The compact gadget is just £14.99 from the bargain retailer and heats up in just 35 seconds, delivering continuous steam to refresh your threads. It comes with a removable 250ml water tank, a 1.9m power cord, and includes two handy attachments – a brush and a measuring cup – for added versatility. And here's where it gets steamy for the competition. Aldi's version is less than half the price of the Philips Handheld Garment Steamer 3000 Series, which retails at £34.99 on Amazon. While the Philips model is foldable and slightly lighter, Aldi's option delivers a powerful punch for its price tag – especially for those not fussed about packing light. The Ambiano steamer is part of Aldi's Specialbuys range, which means once it's gone, it's gone – and at this price, it won't hang around for long. So if your iron's on its last legs or you're just after a quicker way to freshen up your wardrobe, this pocket-friendly powerhouse might be worth snapping up. Elsewhere in Aldi's Specialbuys is a jaw-dropping batch of dupes - and leading the way is the £14.99 NutriBullet dupe. The Ambiano High Speed Blending Set, which comes fully loaded with 11 pieces and costs a whopping £55 less than the branded version. Kitchen getting a glow-up? Aldi's got you. The Crofton Everyways Pan, priced at just £19.99, is being hailed as a Le Creuset lookalike for a tenth of the price. Wake up to a weed-free lawn for months thanks to Aldi's £10 gadget that pulls them out without bending or kneeling down It's oven safe, made with recycled aluminium, and honestly... it looks the part. Meanwhile, beauty fans are buzzing over the return of Lacura's mascara for £5.99, a near-perfect dupe of Benefit's bestseller. And if that wasn't enough, Aldi's Lacura Setting Spray (£4.49) and Marine Oil (£3.99) are drawing comparisons to Charlotte Tilbury and Elemis – but for a fraction of the cost. Setting customers back just £3.99, the Lacura Marine Oil is a dupe of Elemis' pro-collagen marine oil, which is currently on sale for a whopping £72. The luxury oil aims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles with marine ingredients. And Aldi's version aims to do the same by using algae extract and golden seaweed. It's not the only dupe from the line. The supermarket is also launching a marine mask, £6.99, and a marine moisturising essence, which are again very similar to pricier Elemis products. On the DIY front, Aldi's come out swinging with a cordless multifunction tool for £25, slashing the price of similar Bosch models by over £60. Kids aren't left out either – there's a Plush Bluey Chair (£24.99) and Squishmallow Pokémon plush toys (£12.99) flying off shelves faster than you can say "limited stock". 2 When's the best time to shop at Aldi? WHEN it comes to shopping at Aldi, the best time to do so depends on what you want to buy. For reduced items - when shops open Red sticker items are rare at Aldi's 830 UK stores, but the supermarket says that none of its food goes to waste so there are some to be found - if you're quick. A spokesman for the supermarket said: "All items are reduced to 50 per cent of the recommend sales price before stores open on their best before or use by dates." That means you have the best chance of finding reduced food items if you go into stores as soon as it opens. Opening times vary by shop but a majority open from 7am or 8am. You can find your nearest store's times by using the supermarket's online shop finder tool. For Specialbuys - Thursdays and Sundays Specialbuys are Aldi's weekly collection of items that it doesn't normally sell, which can range from pizza ovens to power tools. New stock comes into stores every Thursday and Sunday, so naturally, these are the best days to visit for the best one-off special deals. For an even better chance of bagging the best items, head there for your local store's opening time. Remember: once they're gone, they're gone, so if there's something you really want, visit as early as possible
