J.K. Nayak was elected president, Somnath Sahub and Karunakar Padhi, vice presidents, Bimal Kumar Mahanta, secretary, Seema Mohanty, cultural secretary, and Maheswar Behera will serve as treasurer.

Bhubaneswar: In the aftermath of Puri stampede that claimed three lives, Odisha Government on Sunday shunted out Puri District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain and Superintendent of Police Vinit Agrawal while two other senior police officials have been placed under suspension. Collector of Khordha, Chanchal Rana and DIGP of the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police, Pinak Mishra have been appointed as Puri Collector and SP respectively, as per a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office following a high-level meeting. DCP Vishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhee have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty. Meanwhile, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi has announced ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakhs for the family members of three devotees, who lost their lives in the stampede. The Odisha Government has also ordered an administrative inquiry into the tragic mishap under the supervision of the Development Commissioner of Odisha, Anu Garg. 'The Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is the pride and honour of the Odia people. Negligence in this matter, even if minor, will not be tolerated. Exemplary action will be taken against all the persons responsible for this,' said CM Majhi. In another important decision, the government has assigned Arvind Agrawal, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Higher Education Department, the charge for overall supervision of the Car Festival in Puri. Following the stampede in Odisha's Puri that claimed the lives of three pilgrims, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended an apology to the devotees of Lord Jagannath, while ordering an immediate investigation into the security lapses. 'Personally, I and my government seek forgiveness from all Jagannath devotees," wrote CM Majhi on his official X handle. Majhi further expressed condolences to the families of those devotees who lost their lives in the stampede at Saradhabali near Gundicha Temple. He prayed to Lord Jagannath to grant the bereaved family members of the deceased devotees the strength to withstand this profound sorrow. The stampede occurred early in the morning between 4 a.m.- 4.30 a.m. The deceased have been identified as Pravati Das, Premkant Mohanty and Basanti Sahoo.

Bhubaneswar, June 29 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today ordered a high-level administrative inquiry, headed by the Development Commissioner, into the stampede at Saradhabali near the Gundicha Temple in Puri, which claimed the lives of three devotees and left seven others injured. In immediate administrative action, the Puri District Collector and Superintendent of Police were transferred. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bishnu Pati and OSAP Commandant Ajay Padhi were suspended for their roles in the incident. Expressing deep sorrow and grief over the tragedy, the Chief Minister extended a personal apology and an apology on behalf of the state government to all Jagannath devotees. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and announced a compensation of Rs.25 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased. Majhi said that the Rath Yatra of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath in Puri is world-renowned, attracting lakhs of devotees who come with immense devotion and excitement to witness the divine darshan of the Lord at Saradhabali. 'However, due to the overwhelming crowd and intense excitement, three devotees unfortunately lost their lives,' the Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister reiterated that a thorough administrative inquiry has been ordered, to be conducted by the Development Commissioner. Additionally, Chanchal Rana has been appointed as the new District Magistrate of Puri, while Pinak Mishra will take charge as the new Superintendent of Police. DCP Bishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi have been placed under suspension for dereliction of duty. Majhi asserted, 'Mahaprabhu's Rath Yatra is the pride and glory of our Odia heritage. Puri (Odisha) [India], June 27 (ANI): On the occasion of Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Dharmendra Pradhan sought blessings from Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Puri, on Friday. The two Union Ministers, accompanied by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra and Odisha's Culture Minister Suryavanshi Suraj, also offered prayers at the Jagannath Temple. While speaking to reporters after, Union Minister of Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat expressed his admiration for Puri Shankaracharya and expressed his gratitude for having the opportunity to witness such an auspicious day as a Union Minister of Culture. 'The historic celebration of Lord Jagannath's rath yatra is starting....I am very fortunate that I got the chance to witness this Rath Yatra while being the culture minister. I will get the chance to pray to Lord Jagannath, but above that, I am thankful that I got to take the blessings of Shankaracharya, listening to him after a long time,' Shekhawat said. Highlighting the resolve for a developed India, he said that both spiritual and people's strength is important to push India forward, adding, 'As our country goes through a transformation, and the identity of India is being established internationally, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the way the world looks at bharat has changed. The speed at which India is changing, the spiritual strength and the people's strength are all important for the country's progress.' Meanwhile, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also extended greetings on the occasion. 'On the auspicious day of this Ratha Yatra, I pray that the blessings of the Lord are with everyone. The country continues to be peaceful, developing, and be complete is what is in the hearts of this auspicious day, I extend good wishes to the countrymen,' he said. Pradhan also met with the Jagadguru Rambhadracharya to seek his blessings. Posting about the meet, he wrote in hindi and Odia, 'Today, on the holy occasion of Rath Yatra, I had the good fortune of receiving blessings from Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Ji. I wish that I may continue to receive the love, blessings and guidance of Jagadguru Ji.' Union Minister Shekhawat also shared visuals from the chariot procession, extending greetings to devotees. During the festival in Puri, devotees draw the grand chariots of the three deities -- Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra, and sister goddess Subhadra -- to the Gundicha Temple, where the deities reside for a week before returning to the Jagannath Temple. The Rath Yatra ceremony is expected to attract a large crowd, making traffic management a key issue. (ANI)
