Florida woman, 3 grandkids killed in crash with suspected drunk driver speeding at 99 mph

Florida woman, 3 grandkids killed in crash with suspected drunk driver speeding at 99 mph Police say speed and alcohol were a factor in the horrific crash that has shattered a family in Miami Gardens. A local police official says it was 'a very tough night for our community.'
A Florida man suspected of driving drink and speeding at almost 100 mph slammed into the back of another car over the weekend, killing a woman and three children inside, police say.
The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Saturday in Miami Gardens when a black Kia Sorento rear-ended a white Nissan Altima carrying three adults and five children, the Miami Gardens Police Department said in a news release. The Altima became sandwiched between the SUV in the back and a Cadillac Escalade in the front.
"We can definitely confirm that speed was a factor and alcohol was also a factor,' Executive Officer Emmanuel Jeanty said at a news conference. 'It's a very tough night for our community."
Jeanty identified the driver of the black Kia SUV as 25-year-old Antonio Wilcox Jr., saying the department confirmed he had alcohol in his system and was "being tested for additional factors to his impairment," Jeanty said Tuesday.
Wilcox was driving at least 99 miles per hour and was accelerating up to the point of impact when he caused the crash, which was was captured on surveillance footage, police said. "The throttle was all the way down," Jeanty said.
As of Tuesday Wilcox was still hospitalized but authorities have obtained a warrant for his arrest, police confirmed to USA TODAY. Jeanty told CBS News that Wilcox will be charged with four counts of vehicular homicide.
USA TODAY couldn't immediately identify an attorney representing Wilcox.
Family mourns loss of family in deadly crash
Police identified the victims who died in the crash as 51-year-old Rosa Mae Jones, and her grandchildren: 10-year-old Irena, 8-year-old Zarina, and 10-year-old Kamari, who was celebrating his birthday, local media outlet WTVJ-TV reported.
The family was headed to the movie theater when the crash happened.
"They was wonderful kids," their aunt, Susie Williams, told the station. "I'm gonna miss my babies."
The rest of the family included the children's mother, Donika Johnson, who was in critical condition Tuesday, 13-year-old Ka'Myra, who was left brain dead and remains in critical condition, as well as Johnson's partner, Ariel Johnson, who is also hospitalized, WTVJ-TV reported.
A family friend, 7-year-old Cyrus Rankin, was in the vehicle and is in critical condition, his mother told WTVJ-TV.
Rankin's mother, Destiny Rosa, told the outlet that she sensed something was wrong as she tracked his phone.
"I just felt it, a mom knows," she told WTVJ-TV. "As soon as he left my house I started tracking his location and he wasn't moving and I just knew something was wrong."
She asked community members to pray and said her family needs "a big miracle."
According to WTVJ-TV, police said at least three people in the car didn't have seatbelts on.
Father of some crash victims has a warning
Ronald McCall, the father of the two of the girls who died, told WTVJ-TV that he had just been released from jail for DUI the morning after the crash.
'Don't drink and drive,' he said. 'I get out and actually lose my babies to drinking and driving … They'll never be back again. I'm left with only two. It's hard.'

WNBA says individual that threw sex toy on court at Dream game has been arrested

An individual that threw a sex toy onto the court during the Golden State Valkyries' 77-75 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday at Gateway Center in College Park, Georgia, has been arrested, the WNBA confirmed to USA TODAY on Saturday. The incident happened in the final minute of Tuesday's contest as the Dream and Valkyries were tied at 75. The lime green object was thrown from the stands onto the court and landed near the top of the free throw line shortly after Atlanta's Maya Caldwell blocked a 3-point attempt from Golden State's Tiffany Hayes. Officials did not stop play as the object bounced toward the sidelines. A police officer later picked the item up using a towel. Days later, another sex toy was thrown onto the court during the Golden State's 73-66 victory over the Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Friday. The incident happened with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter as the Sky led 39-37. Officials immediately halted play after a green object landed out of bounds under the basket. "The subject involved in the incident in Atlanta on Tuesday has been arrested," the WNBA said in a statement to USA TODAY on Saturday. A number of WNBA players have spoken out against the string of incidents. Sky center Elizabeth Williams said it's "super disrespectful," while Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham said flying objects could "hurt one of us." "I don't really get the point of it. It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up," Williams said following Friday's game. New York Liberty forward Isabelle Harrison added, "ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??! Please do better. It's not funny. never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous." The WNBA said any spectator caught throwing anything on the court will be "immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban," in addition to facing charges. "The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league," the WNBA said. "Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans. In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities." Trump addresses pardon decision for Sean 'Diddy' Combs, but questions remain

President Donald Trump is breaking his silence on pardoning Sean "Diddy" Combs for the first time since he was acquitted of the most serious charges in a federal sex-crimes trial last month. In an interview that aired Friday, Aug. 1 on Newsmax with host Rob Finnerty, Trump discussed the possibility of presidential pardons for convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, Combs and former Rep. George Santos. After Finnerty asked, "Sean 'Diddy' Combs. Would you consider pardoning him?" Trump responded: "Well he was essentially, I guess sort of, half-innocent. I don't know what they do, he's still in jail or something. He was celebrating a victory but I guess it wasn't as good of a victory." Trump 'should not pardon' Sean 'Diddy' 'Diddy' Combs, Megyn Kelly says On July 2, jurors found Combs not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking ex-girlfriends Casandra "Cassie" Ventura Fine and a woman known as "Jane" in his sweeping trial that nearly lasted two months. He was convicted July 2 on two of the five counts against him for transporting those same women for prostitution, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years per count. During the interview, Trump said "probably..." before pausing and revealing to Finnerty, "You know, I was very friendly with him, I got along with him great, seemed like a nice guy. I didn't know him well, but when I ran for office he was very hostile." The Newsmax host noted then that "he said some not so nice things about you, sir." "Yeah, and it's hard. You know, like you, we're human beings and we don't like to have things cloud our judgement, right?" the president continued. "But when you knew someone and you were fine and then you run for office and he made some terrible statements… so I don't know... it makes it more difficult to do." Then, Trump replied, "I'd say so," when Finnerty clarified by asking if it was "more likely a no for (pardoning) Combs?" In the interview, Trump was seemingly referencing Combs' expletive-filled 2017 comments in The Daily Beast, essentially saying that "(Black people) don't really" care about Trump. "The tomfoolery that's going on in D.C., that's just regular everyday business to Black folks," Combs told the left-leaning outlet in-part, adding later in the interview that he had to "keep it focused on that self-love that we need to give our race." Trump first weighed in on the possibility of pardoning Combs on May 30 in the Oval Office. "Nobody's asked" about a pardon, the president said. "But I know people are thinking about it. I know they're thinking about it. I think some people have been very close to asking." Trump added, "I haven't spoken to him in years. He really liked me a lot." Despite last month's verdict, Combs' legal saga continues. On Wednesday, July 31, lawyers for Combs requested his acquittal, or a new trial altogether, in court documents reviewed by USA TODAY. A day earlier, conservative host Megyn Kelly urged Trump against potentially pardoning Combs. Kelly said in an X post on July 30 that "Trump should not pardon Diddy" because "he doesn't deserve it." "He's a Trump hater. He's a woman abuser. MAGA is already upset over elites seeming to cover for each other. This would not help. GOP struggling w/young female voters, most of whom will HATE a Diddy pardon," Kelly wrote. Contributing: Taijuan Moorman
