Martin Keown fires warning to Chelsea over Ethan Nwaneri transfer

Metro4 days ago
Martin Keown has told Chelsea that they will fail in their attempt to sign Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal.
Nwaneri, who became the Premier League's youngest-ever player at 15 years and 181 days old with his first senior start for Arsenal in 2022, made 37 appearances in all competitions for Arteta's side last season.
The 18-year-old has been tipped to become another Arsenal academy graduate to make a significant long-term impact in the first team, however, he has just a year left on his contract and could leave on a free transfer next summer if a new deal is not agreed.
Chelsea have been already made an enquiry for Nwaneri during their negotiations over Arsenal's deal to sign Noni Madueke.
Reports have also claimed that Nwaneri is considering his options due to concerns over his playing time in the upcoming campaign.

However, Keown is adamant that Nwaneri will get an opportunity to impress under Arteta and there is 'no doubt' that the midfielder will extend his contract with Arsenal.
'I take you back to the [FA] Cup final that Arteta won… in that game who sat on the bench and didn't come on? Saka. That looked painful. Martinelli… a lot of people were crying out for him to make a start, but he [Arteta] does it when he thinks it's right,' Keown told talkSPORT. More Trending
'I think Nwaneri is on the same path. He is a wonderful talent. He's being protected by Arteta.
'It's not to do with ability, he will get his chance. Okay, maybe it's a bartering situation for the contract but I've met the family, the father, very calm, lovely family.
'He's an intelligent boy, he will eventually sign for Arsenal, there is no doubt about it.
'I just think he wants to make sure he plays football, and that is healthy. He's doing it for the right reasons, this young man. I believe he is going to be a superstar at Arsenal.'

Viktor Gyokeres insists he's as good as Harry Kane and Erling Haaland - as Arsenal and Man United target warns: 'You haven't seen the best of me yet'

Viktor Gyokeres is confident of taking the Premier League by storm if he returns to England this summer. The Sporting Lisbon striker — formerly of Brighton, Swansea and Coventry — has been widely linked with interest from both Manchester United and Arsenal. That interest comes after Gyokeres scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting. He previously netted 41 times in 121 appearances in England's EFL Championship, although he has yet to play in the Premier League despite being on Brighton's books for four years. However, now aged 27, Gyokeres believes he is ready to thrive on the main stage. Speaking to L'Equipe this week, Gyokeres was asked where he felt he currently ranked among the top strikers in world football. Names like Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland were put to Gyokeres, who replied: 'I'm definitely one of them. 'It's difficult to rank me, but yes, I'm at the same table as them now. What I managed to do at Sporting, I am convinced I can achieve anywhere. 'You haven't seen the best of me yet.' Such a confident statement is certain to make Arsenal and United fans even more excited about the prospect of signing Gyokeres this summer. At present, Arsenal look like the more likely destination. Indeed, it was reported earlier this week that Gyokeres was ready to refuse to turn up for pre-season training with Sporting in order to push for a move to the Gunners. However, Gyokeres sounded calm as he told L'Equipe: 'The future? That's football, you never know. 'I'm not thinking about that [leaving], we'll see what happens. If something is meant to happen, it will. 'The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.' Kane and Haaland are two of the most prolific frontmen in Premier League history. England captain Kane, now of Bayern Munich in Germany, is second on the all-time list of Premier League scorers having netted 213 times for Tottenham. Kane twice reached the 30-goal mark in a season — in 2017-18 and then again in the 2022-23 campaign. He and Haaland are among only 10 players who have ever netted 30 or more goals in a single Premier League season. Meanwhile, Haaland holds the record for most Premier League goals in one campaign, having hit 36 during his first season with Manchester City in 2022-23.

Chelsea name staggering nine-figure asking price for Nicolas Jackson

Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea remains unclear after the Blues signed Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, which appears to have pushed the Senegal star down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge Chelsea are demanding an eye-watering £100million for Nicolas Jackson amid rumours the Senegal international could leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Jackson arrived from Villarreal for around £32million in 2023 but has divided supporters after some mixed displays in front of goal for Chelsea. ‌ Despite criticism aimed at him, he still managed to score 17 goals in his first season and 13 goals in the last campaign for a total of 30 strikes in 81 games. ‌ But the arrivals of Liam Delap from Ipswich and Joao Pedro from Brighton have led to doubts over whether Jackson will keep his place in the team. According to the Daily Mail, Jackson is on AC Milan's six-man shortlist of players, with the Serie A side "confident" they can snap him up this summer. Jackson now fears he has "lost the trust of manager Enzo Maresca", having been named on the bench for their 2-0 Club World Cup semi-final win over Fluminense - while new signing Joao Pedro netted a brace. ‌ The report goes on to say that the Blues are in "no rush" to offload Jackson, and have slapped a huge price tag on him of £100m - despite his lack of goals since the turn of the year. Jackson has only four strikes to his name since January and has been sent off in two of his last six games for Chelsea. ‌ AC Milan are looking for extra firepower up front after Tammy Abraham returned to Roma after his season-long loan, while Luka Jovic has been released. The Mail's report adds that they have been encouraged that Jackson could be tempted into a move, but they could be put off Chelsea's massive asking price. After being left out of the semi-final against Fluminense - following his red card against Flamengo earlier in the tournament, ex-Chelsea star John Obi Mikel said: "I think that sends a massive message to Jackson." ‌ Mikel was previously critical of the forward over his dismissal against Flamengo and slammed him over the "stupid, stupid, stupid mistake". 'I don't know what was going through his head. You come into the game, you are 2-1 down at that point. Your team needs you. And he does that."
