Revealed: Harry Potter TV series shares first ever pic of Dominic McLaughlin as the boy wizard

Cosmopolitan5 hours ago
HBO and Warner Bros. have released the first official image of young Harry Potter in their upcoming TV adaptation.
On Monday 14th July, the production company announced that filming had officially begun on the highly anticipated Harry Potter TVseries, which is set to be released in 2027.
Along with the announcement, the series unveiled its first official image of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, grinning in full costume with the character's iconic round glasses, Hogwarts school robe, and distinct lighting scar on his forehead.
McLaughlin will be joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley for the new series.
The young trio were chosen from a nationwide casting call that saw over 30,000 hopefuls audition for the legendary roles last autumn.
Speaking about the casting, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said in a joint statement back in May: "After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron."
They continued: "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there."
McLaughlin shines in his debut as The Boy Who Lived and the resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe is uncanny, making him perfect for the role.
"So exciting he looks just like Harry!!!" one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter) upon seeing the image.
"They nailed the main character," another said.
Dominic is relatively new to the acting world, so it'll be interesting to see him in the titular role for the new Harry Potter TV series.
He will also appear in the sky film titled Grow alongside Golda Rosheuvel and Nick Frost, who, coincidentally, will play Hagrid in the Harry Potter TV show. The movie will be released later in 2025.
The Harry Potter TV series will air in 2027.

Boy George doesn't think queer identity politics have 'helped anyone': 'You're starting from the wrong perspective'

Boy George is opening up about his complicated feelings on queer activism. The Culture Club frontman, who is gay, has addressed why he doesn't support modern LGBTQ+ identity politics. "I don't think it's helped anyone," George told U.K. outlet The Times in a new interview, emphasizing that queer people aren't a monolith. "We're not a thing. It's like, 'This is what Black people are, this is what Jewish people are, this is what trans people are.' No!" He went on to defend his views on the matter. "Everybody is diverse because nobody is like anybody else, so you're starting from the wrong perspective," George said. "Nobody gets to choose what color eyes they have, how big their penis is, how fat their arse is." Earlier in the interview, the "Karma Chameleon" singer discussed online transphobia and how the digital world differs from reality. "Trans people are the new people to hate, but I always say: How many trans people have you met today?" George said. "There's the world on the internet, which is hideous and full of anger. Then there's the real world, which is entirely different, so in reality people have nothing to be nervous about." George faced accusations of transphobia in 2020 after tweeting, "Leave your pronouns at the door!" However, the musician has repeatedly defended the trans community in his social media feud with J.K. Rowling this year, calling the Harry Potter author "a rich, bored bully" for her transphobic views and saying she gets "fun from other people's pain." In his conversation with The Times, the musician said he believes his personal life is just a minuscule drop in the vast social-media bucket — and that sexual orientation shouldn't matter so much to people anyway. "If I'm really lucky my own sexuality takes up about three hours a month. We've all got cats to feed, families to visit, jobs to do," George said. "I said in an interview when I was 17, 'Being gay is like eating a bag of crisps. It's so not important.' I still think that now. What do you care about someone's sexuality unless you're going to have sex with them?" George also discussed how he channeled his views on queer identity into his 2002 musical, Taboo, which tells the story of his friend Leigh Bowery, legendary queer performance artist who founded London's Taboo club. "What I want to explore in the show is the odd relationship between Leigh and his wife, Nicola Bowery," the musician said of the play, for which he wrote the lyrics and played Leigh on stage. "Long before nonbinary, here's a gay guy who married a straight woman, and there was real tenderness and love between them. Yes, part of the reason he married Nicola was to piss everyone off, but I do think he really loved her."George, who is trying to revive Taboo, added that Bowery wouldn't want to box himself into pre-existing notions of queer identity or expression. "Someone said the other day, 'Leigh Bowery was the blueprint for gay identity,'" he recalled to The Times. "He would have hated that. Hated it!" Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Chip Gaines responds to backlash after Magnolia Network reality show features same-sex family

Former HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines are facing backlash for their new reality show which features a same-sex couple. "Back to the Frontier," a show about three American families who attempt to survive as 1880s homesteaders, debuted on HBO Max on July 10. The Gaines are executive producers of the Magnolia Network series, the cable network they co-founded with Warner Bros. Discovery, which was promoted as featuring "family-friendly unscripted programming." After clips of the show were shared on social media, the Gaines' were criticized by conservative Christian pastors, organizations and media commentators over the show casting two Texas dads and their 10-year-old twin sons, who were born via a surrogate. Critics claimed the Gaines were promoting an anti-biblical lifestyle while they'd built a media empire professing their Christian faith. Reverend Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, called the casting decision "very disappointing." "While we are to love people, we should love them enough to tell them the truth of God's Word," he wrote on social media. "His Word is absolute truth. God loves us, and His design for marriage is between one man and one woman. Promoting something that God defines as sin is in itself sin." Ed Vitagliano, vice president of the American Family Association, said the move was "sad and disappointing" from the couple who've been "very influential in the evangelical community." "Moreover, in the past, they have stood firm on the sanctity of marriage regardless of the personal cost that has entailed. We aren't sure why the Gaines have reversed course, but we are sure of this: 'Back to the Frontier' promotes an unbiblical view of human sexuality, marriage, and family –– a view no Christian should embrace," he added in a statement posted to X. Chip Gaines' July 10 social media post promoting the show was also flooded with thousands of negative comments. He responded to the backlash on Sunday. "Talk, ask qustns [sic], listen.. maybe even learn," he told critics. "Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge 1st [sic], understand later/never." "It's a sad sunday [sic] when 'non believers' have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian," he added with a "heartbreak" emoji. Gaines also responded to Joel Berry, managing editor of Christian satirical news website The Babylon Bee, who asked Gaines to "filter out some of the online vitriol and consider taking to heart some of the substantive concerns and heartbreak from the Christians who make up your fanbase." "Don't be sad Joel.. plenty of other stuff out there," Gaines replied. "I'm sure everyone will be fine. BUT I sincerely appreciate the advice about taking some of the thoughtful, heartfelt, encouraging constructive criticism to heart.. and I certainly will." Magnolia Network representatives did not return Fox News Digital's request for comment.
