Private hospitals ask for more time to comply with SST expansion
Under the new rules, private healthcare services provided to non-Malaysian patients will be subject to a 6 per cent SST.
APHM said that while it supports the Government's plans to broaden the tax base to support economic growth, the short implementation timeframe poses "significant operational challenges".
"Private hospitals would need sufficient lead time to adjust administrative systems, billing processes, and compliance procedures," APHM said in a statement.
The association has submitted a written request to the Finance Ministry for a more practical timeline beyond July 1.
"This is to allow a smoother transition, minimise disruption to patient services, and help ensure full compliance with the new requirements.
"APHM has also sought further clarification on the policy's application, including its impact on professional fees, its treatment of foreigners residing in Malaysia, and other related implementation matters."
APHM said that private hospitals are an essential part of Malaysia's healthcare ecosystem, with the country being recognised as one of the top 10 global destinations for medical tourism.
"APHM remains committed to working collaboratively with the government to ensure effective and sustainable policy implementation."

Dzulkefly: Staffing, facilities key focus of Johor healthcare action plan
KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry and the Johor government have reached a consensus on addressing healthcare issues in the state, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. "First is the improvement of the state's public healthcare system. That is our commitment, in terms of facilities and such. "Second is the need to examine human resources. This is where we directly look at the metrics and the norms. What is truly essential for a state and its facilities," he said. Dzulkefly was speaking to the press during the Precision Public Health Asia 2025 Conference in Petaling Jaya today. He added that the third and fourth focuses were on enhancing capacity and preparing new healthcare facilities nearing completion. As an example, he highlighted the staffing of the soon-to-open Pasir Gudang Hospital as a key concern. "We want that matter to be studied more granularly, in more detail, so that we can begin operations at a more reasonable level, say, at 50 per cent. We're taking that as a necessity," he said. He said that implementing solutions would require strengthened cooperation between state and federal bodies and confirmed that follow-up action had already begun. "This is why we are moving immediately. I have mobilised those responsible, together with the Johor government, so that we can follow up on this matter more swiftly," Dzulkefly said. Yesterday, Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the federal and Johor governments had agreed to establish a joint task force to tackle the worsening shortage of healthcare workers in the state's public hospitals. Ling added that the newly proposed task force would comprise senior officials from the Health Ministry and the state government. This was after Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said Dr Dzulkefly met Onn Hafiz to discuss the critical shortage of healthcare workers reported in the state. Shamsul said he had also discussed the issue with Onn Hafiz on the sidelines of the Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers' meeting, chaired by the prime minister in Putrajaya on Monday.

He said this was due to the shared characteristics in terms of administrative structure, and technical challenges in developing the system, which was aimed to serve as the main reference for managing addresses nationwide. "Both countries have multiple states and territorial jurisdictions, each with its own address databases and lists. So, I believe we share a similar starting point. "Along with the similar challenges we faced in urban addressing, I believe what we have been able to achieve in Australia is also applicable to the Malaysian context," he told reporters when met at the National Address Conference 2025, here today. Prior to this, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has essentially agreed to implement the NAS during the Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Council meeting on June 24 last year. Fahmi said the system has also been identified as a 'needle mover' under the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint and the National 4IR Policy, aimed at realising the government's aspiration to make Malaysia a high-income nation driven by digitalisation and a regional leader in the digital economy. Abhayaratna noted that Australia's NAS, developed by Geoscape, had contributed over AUD 1.4 billion in economic value, establishing it as one of the country's key national assets. 'It's a very conservative estimate, but it gives you a sense of the kind of value you can derive from this. I believe these kinds of drivers, and what we've been able to accomplish in Australia, show what can be achieved under the right circumstances with proper planning,' he said. He also praised Malaysia's efforts through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in developing the NAS as a unified and authoritative address system officially endorsed by the government.

Aquaculture company Camaroe receives Bursa Malaysia approval for ACE Market listing
KUALA LUMPUR: Integrated aquaculture group Camaroe Bhd has received approval from Bursa Malaysia Securities to list on the ACE Market. In a statement today, Camaroe, which specialises in the farming and processing of black tiger prawns, said its initial public offering (IPO) will involve the issuance of 99 million new shares, as well as an offer for sale of 49.5 million existing shares to selected investors. Managing director Tech Han Boon said that, with the group's strong foundation in prawn farming and expanding processing capabilities, the IPO will allow Camaroe to increase production capacity and enhance operational efficiency through new machinery and technology. 'Additionally, it will strengthen our product quality through the establishment of a biotechnology department,' he added. Camaroe said the IPO will allocate 24.75 million shares or 5% of the enlarged issued share capital to the Malaysian public, with 2.5% made available to public investors and the remaining 2.5% to Bumiputera public Investors. A further 12.38 million shares or 2.5% will be allocated to eligible directors, key senior management and employees through pink form allocations. Another 61.87 million shares or 12.5%, are reserved for private placement to Bumiputera investors approved by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry. 'Proceeds from the IPO will support the construction of a new Bukit Raja processing facility, the purchase of machinery and equipment, and the installation of solar panels to enhance sustainability. Additionally, Camaroe plans to establish a biotechnology department to strengthen its research capabilities and improve farming efficiencies,' the company said.
