The immensely talented singer, Kael, returns to colour the local music industry with his fourth single with Alternate Records entitled "Angkasa" , a touching modern pop ballad, the result of a creative collaboration with renowned composer Omar K and talented music producer, Iqie Hugh.
"Angkasa " is not just a love song, but an emotional manifestation of two souls who love but are separated by different realities, like day and night sharing the same sky. Inspired by the concept of love between two worlds, " Angkasa " encompasses themes of loyalty, hope and beauty in imperfection.
"The main message of this song is about believing in true love even in less-than-ideal situations. If the love is sincere and strong, they remain emotionally and spiritually united in the same "Angkasa (space), " explained Omar K, who also created the beautiful and poetic melody of this song with Kael and Iqie Hugh.
" The uniqueness of " Angkasa " lies in its minimal yet emotionally charged musical arrangement, allowing Kael's vocals to shine through with full nuance. Its unconventional melody – soft yet powerful, sad yet hopeful, adds a dramatic cinematic and atmospheric element. "
With a modern pop ballad genre combined with minimal and atmospheric electronic elements, " Angkasa " gives an 'openness' feel that symbolizes emotional freedom in the vast sk y," added Omar.
Kael, who was also fully involved in the writing, composition, and visual development for " Angkasa " , expressed his feelings of emotion.
'This song is very personal. It highlights my most authentic side. One of the challenges was finding the right words from my heart and shaping them into a poetic and meaningful melody , ' said Kael.
"To me, " Angkasa " is one of the romantic love songs of this era, produced to touch the hearts of the listeners. 'Romance cannot be faked. I dedicate this song to all couples, friends and lovers. It is suitable to be played at weddings, anniversaries, special events, or just to express how much we appreciate someone we love.'
The pro duction of the song took around three months, including writing, arranging music and recording vocals. Kael's main vocal recording session only took one day, the result of excellent collaboration between the artist and the producer s, said Omar .
Omar K acknowledged Kael as a very professional artist, prepared and highly enthusiastic when in the studio , and Kael is now hoping that the "Angkasa" song will mark a big step in his career .
"I hope this song becomes many people's favourite. I am also hoping that " Angkasa " can penetrate neighbo u ring countries and bring the name of Malaysian art to a higher level," said Kael, who also thanked the Alternate Records and the composers for their brilliant help in making the single.
The single 'Angkasa' is now available on all digital streaming platforms such as YouTube Music and Spotify. For the latest information on Alternate Records & Talents, visit their official social media accounts on Facebook, @alternate.my_ on Instagram, and @alternate.rt_ on TikTok.

Sean "Hongdae Guy" Solo is in Malaysia, updates will be hanging in Sunway today

SHAH ALAM – Sean Solo, better known online as the 'Hongdae Guy,' has touched down in Kuala Lumpur, bringing his infamous catchphrases and comedic flair with him. He has shared his locations with followers on his Instagram today saying that he will be in the "Sunway area" around noon, specifically stating that he will be at Myburgerlab Sunway University Area at 12pm followed by Sunway Pyramid's Oasis area at 2pm. In a quick video update, he will be shooting content and hanging out around those spots and welcomed followers to come "Say hi and hang out", telling his followers to just come say hi as he would love to meet them. "I had such a good time in Malaysia today, Kuala Lumpur is awesome, I love it, amazing. The people, food," he said in the clip. Known for his sharp-witted skits that mock the exaggerated behaviour of certain young men in Seoul's buzzing Hongdae district, Sean has carved a name for himself through his unique comedic style. With overly expressive gestures and hilariously awkward English, such as 'Do you live alone?' and 'Are you open-minded?', his videos parody the bold, often cringeworthy attempts made by some local men to woo foreign tourists, particularly Western women around the Hongdae nightlife scene. Hongdae, located near Hongik University in Seoul's Mapo area, is a hotspot for nightlife, street performances and alternative youth culture. It's a favorite among local students and international visitors alike. Within this energetic setting, the 'Hongdae Guy' persona emerged as a satirical symbol of a certain type of overconfident young man, and Sean's take on it has struck a chord with global audiences. Who should I collab with?,' he wrote, hinting at future collaborations and inviting suggestions from his followers. Sean, also known by his TikTok handle @itsseansolo, helped turn the 'Hongdae guy' stereotype into an international comedy trend. His sketches expose the awkward charm and misplaced confidence of these fictional characters, poking fun while maintaining a light-hearted tone. As a result, his content has not only gained massive online traction but also made his catchphrases part of global meme culture. Among his standout collaborations is one with Malaysian influencer Timur Gabriel, daughter of legendary Malaysian singer Zainal Abidin. Their joint parody videos blend Malaysian and Korean humour effortlessly, demonstrating their creative chemistry. Timur, now dubbed 'Malaysia's face of the Hongdae trend' by TikTok followers, made waves with her stylish looks and charismatic presence. The collaboration was widely embraced, with many Malaysians expressing pride in seeing a local figure spotlighted in such a cross-cultural internet phenomenon. The cultural exchange didn't go unnoticed. Fans celebrated the way these collaborations broke boundaries, proving how social media can bridge different worlds through humour and creativity. With Sean now on Malaysian soil, the buzz is real as anticipation runs high for Sean Solo's signature comedy style to make a lasting mark on Kuala Lumpur.

Interview: Japanese Artists Manaka Inaba & Leon Niihama On Performing For Japan Expo & Trying M'sian Dishes

The 6th edition of Japan Expo Malaysia was recently held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The three-day event, which ran from 18th to 20th July and was officiated by His Excellency Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, brought together over 50 exhibitors along with a line-up of Japanese artists and performances under one roof. Speaking of artists, we had the opportunity to interview some of them on the launch day. In our first session, we sat down with singers Manaka Inaba and Leon Niihama, who spoke about their first experience in Malaysia and their excitement at performing for the festival. 1. Is this your first time in Malaysia? What has the experience been like so far? Manaka Inaba: It's my first time here, and although it was a long flight, I was very happy to meet all my fans and be part of this year's Japan Expo. I've already tried a few things, but I'm looking forward to exploring more once I have the time. Leon Niihama: This is my first time since my debut, but I've been to Malaysia once for an exchange student program during my high school years. A lot has changed. I was very surprised about the aerotrain, which was not there before when I last came here. 2. Have you received food or tourist attraction recommendations from Malaysian fans? Manaka Inaba: Satay! My team and I had satay when we arrived, and it was so good! The ones we had were sweeter than I thought, but I loved them. I've also tried a lot of the local fruits here, but I've yet to try durian, so we'll see how that goes. Leon Niihama: The last time I was here, I had Nasi Lemak, but I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to, so I didn't remember the taste much. This time, I get to savour the dish as much as I like! I had it for breakfast, and I plan to have 5 more later. 3. For Inaba, how does it feel to be part of Japan Expo Malaysia this year? I was absolutely thrilled when I found out I'd be part of the event. It's my first performance overseas, and I was a little worried that not many fans would turn up—but I'm so happy that so many came to see me earlier. 4. You first debut as a member of Hello! Project before going solo. What was the transition like? Basically, everything is different. In a group, you have to think about your members, so it's all about finding balance. As a solo artist, it's just me, and I had to learn the importance of expressing my opinions as myself and for myself. There's also a different kind of pressure in terms of performances cause I don't have my members to rely on, but I do my best. 5. Leon, could you tell us more about your musical style and what inspired you to pursue this direction? Yes, I am an Enka singer, which is basically equivalent to the traditional or soulful genre of music. My father was a professional enka singer, so I grew up with it. He has inspired me a lot musically. I'm also very grateful to have received opportunities such as creating songs for 'Detective Conan', which allows me to introduce this style of music to a younger audience. I could've chosen a pop route, yes, but I wanted to share this part of Japanese culture with the rest of the world. 6. Speaking of 'Detective Conan', could you share more about the new ending theme for the latest film? Collaborating with 'Detective Conan' has been a fantastic opportunity. The song is called 'Fun Fun Fun', and we also did a dance for the music video called the Waki Waki Dance. You can see both children and adults dancing together, and the feedback has been really positive. The dance challenge has also taken off on TikTok, with lots of people joining in. 7. What do you hope Malaysian fans take away from your performance here at Japan Expo Malaysia 2025? Manaka Inaba: I want people to feel the beauty of Japan with not just my own music, but also Hello! Project's songs as well. I hope the audience will feel inspired by the message I'm trying to convey. Leon Niihama: I believe there are still many people who aren't familiar with enka music, so I want to keep sharing the beauty of this genre to help more people learn to appreciate it.

Bears feast on durians after wandering into a school

Compiled by TAN SIN CHOW, DIVYA THERESA RAVI and R. ARAVINTHAN Apparently, it is not just humans who love durians – two bears risked it all for a taste of the king of fruits at a school in Terengganu, Sinar Harian reported. The pair entered SK Seberang Tayor in Kemaman around 8.30am on Monday. School gardener Azmi Yaakob, 52, said some pupils who were undergoing sports training, were told to return to the classrooms. He said the bears wandered in the compound for quite some time and around 11am, they went to the school farm where durian trees were planted. 'They ate some durians before moving on to the nearby bush,' he added. Terengganu Wildlife and National Parks Department director Loo Kean Seong said traps had been placed in the area since May. He said efforts were being taken to locate the animals. > After 18 years, Malaysian blockbuster Impak Maksima made a roaring cinematic comeback with a new instalment, raking in RM1mil in just four days, Harian Metro reported. The sequel, Impak Maksima 2, is directed by Dr Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri and stars Arfie Shah, Datuk Seri Eizlan Yusof and Dynas Mokhtar. 'In the current situation, reaching RM1mil is a very positive sign. 'I'm doing something that others don't do. This always involved taking risks with careful planning, particularly in budget management,' said Ahmad Idham. Impak Maksima, which was released in 2007, made about RM2mil at the box office. The above articles are compiled from the vernacular newspapers (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil dailies). As such, stories are grouped according to the respective language/medium.
