Men caught on CCTV planting bone in veg biryani to evade Rs 5,000 bill at UP restaurant: ‘they should be punished'
A bizarre attempt to dodge a restaurant bill recently unfolded in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, when a group of young men tried to falsely accuse a local eatery of serving meat in a vegetarian dish. The incident took place on the night of July 31 at Biryani Bay, located near Shastri Chowk in the Cantonment area. According to a report by Hindustan Times, a group of around eight to 10 men had dined at the restaurant, ordering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian biryanis. Not long after the food arrived, one of them loudly claimed to have found a meat bone in his vegetarian biryani. Sensing that something was off, the restaurant staff immediately called the police, who arrived and defused the situation. But what followed exposed the group's deceit. CCTV footage from inside the restaurant revealed that one of the men had passed a bone to another, who then quietly slipped it into the vegetarian biryani before staging the entire drama. Restaurant owner Ravikar Singh, confident in his kitchen's strict food separation practices, stood firm on his ground. 'There is no chance of contamination,' he said, adding that the group's intention was plain: 'They clearly wanted to avoid paying the bill, which was around Rs 5,000-6,000. Their actions were completely deliberate.' Though no formal complaint has been lodged yet, Yogendra Singh, Circle Officer, Cantonment, confirmed that the police are handling the matter and that 'legal action is underway.' A post shared by Brut India (@ The video has been uploaded on social media by multiple accounts and has gone viral with almost 1 lakh views. Netizens also reacted to the video in the comments. A user wrote, 'if it wasn't recorded, restaurant owner would be beaten up, govt would cancel their license…' Another user added, 'We live in a world where CCTVs are a must and no person can be trusted no matter what.' A third person commented, 'In order to put other person down some people really go so low in their lives.' A fourth individual wrote, 'This is so getting out of hand. They themselves make fun of their religion, do pathetic. If you can't afford to pay the bill please don't eat out. They should be punished for this.'

Thane Tribunal Orders Rs 49.46 Lakh Compensation To Parents Of Techie Killed In 2019
The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane has awarded a compensation of Rs 49.46 lakh to the parents of a 24-year-old IT engineer who died in a road accident in 2019. The tribunal, presided over by member RV Mohite, in the order on August 2 noted the accident was a result of contributory negligence, assigning 75 per cent blame on the offending truck driver and 25 per cent to the deceased motorcyclist. The claim petition was filed by parents of the deceased, Swapnil Suresh Gulvi. According to the petition, Gulvi was riding his motorcycle on January 11, 2019, on Ghodbunder Road in Maharashtra's Thane city where he attempted to overtake a bus from the right near a bus stop. The bus driver allegedly applied sudden brakes, causing the motorcycle to collide with it and the rider to fall. Subsequently, a truck coming from behind ran over the motorbike rider's head, leading to his death. The deceased was an IT engineer, earning Rs 30,000 per month. The truck owner and the bus owner remained ex-parte, while their respective insurers contested the claim. The tribunal absolved the bus driver of any negligence, saying there was nothing on record to show he suddenly applied brakes to stop the vehicle at the bus stop. It observed that both the deceased and the truck driver failed to maintain a safe distance from vehicles in front of them, leading to the accident. "As proper distance was neither maintained by the deceased nor by the driver of the offending truck, then whole negligence is on the part of rear vehicles, i.e, of the deceased and of the driver of offending vehicle in regard to the occurrence of the accident," the MACT said. It also noted the truck was moving at an excessive speed at the time of the accident. Based on the analysis, the tribunal assessed the negligence of the truck driver at 75 per cent and that of the deceased at 25 per cent. The MACT calculated the total compensation as Rs 65,94,700, including loss of future income, future prospects and non-pecuniary damages. After applying the 25 per cent deduction for the deceased's contributory negligence, the final award was set at Rs 49,46,025. The tribunal directed the truck owner and its insurer to jointly and severally pay the amount to the claimants with an annual interest of 9 per cent from the date of the petition.

'Surrender In 2 Weeks': Supreme Court Cancels DHFL's Dheeraj Wadhawan's Bail
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday cancelled bail granted to former DHFL promoter Dheeraj Wadhawan in the multi-crore bank loan scam case. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Satish Chandra Sharma passed the order after perusing the report filed by a medical board and directed Wadhawan to surrender within two weeks. The Delhi High Court on September 9, 2024 granted him bail on medical grounds saying Wadhawan fell within the parameters of a "sick person". The order came on an appeal filed by the CBI appeal against the high court order. Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, representing the agency, had earlier said said Wadhawan suffered from no serious medical ailments and huge amounts of money were siphoned off in the case. The Wadhawan brothers -- Kapil and Dheeraj-- were arrested in this case in July 2022. The agency filed a chargesheet in October 2022 following which a court took its cognisance. The FIR was registered on a complaint made by the Union Bank of India, which alleged DHFL, the housing finance company's then chairman-cum-managing director Kapil Wadhawan, then director Dheeraj Wadhawan and other accused entered into a criminal conspiracy to cheat the consortium of 17 banks led by the Union Bank of India, and in pursuance of the criminal conspiracy, the accused and others induced the consortium to sanction huge loans aggregating Rs 42,871.42 crore. Much of the amount was allegedly siphoned off and misappropriated by alleged falsification of the books of the DHFL and dishonest default in repayment of legitimate dues of the consortium banks, the CBI claimed.
