Mockly made a fake DM generator that's actually user-friendly

TechCrunch10-07-2025
Developer Maurice Kleine shipped a web app on Thursday that could be either a boon for meme-making or the bane of your existence, depending on how you look at it. Mockly can generate believable images of fake conversations on apps like iMessage, Discord, Instagram, X, Tinder, WhatsApp, and more.
Tools like Mockly have existed since the dawn of instant messaging, but they generally aren't the most user-friendly apps — many of the results when you Google 'fake iMessage generator' are those websites where there are three download buttons, and you have to guess which one is real, and which are ads that potentially contain malware.

Mockly manages to set itself apart while iterating on such a popular idea by simply being usable. Postfully, another user-friendly option, only supports iMessage, while Mockly supports 13 platforms at launch.
Some of Mockly's templates are more believable than others. Its Slack template, for example, feels a little barren, while its Instagram template looks pretty legit. Another limitation at play is that Mockly is mostly reproducing what conversations on these platforms would look like on the web, and not on mobile.

Maybe it's for the best if Mockly's fake message generator is not 100% perfect. People still can and will be duped by fake message screenshots. But it is widely known that it's possible to fake an image of a DM conversation, and people on social media are mostly primed to question the legitimacy of a DM screenshot. In the age of AI, where synthetic videos of world events are going viral and creating widespread disinformation… perhaps we have bigger fish to fry.

How CX Leaders Are Using Agentic AI

Got your feet wet with CX AI chatbots and generative AI? Good, because the next step is agentic AI. We explain the why, the how, and what you need to do in the next SAP Insights newsletter. The CX agent is agentic: CX was an early adopter of AI and so is particularly well placed to try out agentic AI. Where previous AIs were good as add-ons to help customer service reps do their jobs better and more quickly, agentic AI is the technology that will actually do those jobs in the background. Reps can then do the more difficult stuff. Also in this edition: Supply chain chills: Supply chain on the brain? No wonder, considering the state of trade. We have a guide that covers everything supply chain. We also point out one really super important part of supply chains that is often overlooked. Space for e-mails: The first e-mail from space was sent over 30 years ago and since then, there's been no end to e-mails sent at any time and from anywhere (although much less interesting places). Communications have changed a lot since 1991, and not all for the better. Analysts Say $127.3 Trillion Liquidity Surge Could Be Rocket Fuel for Bitcoin

Benzinga and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue on some items through the links below. Digital asset investment firm CoinShares predicts a potential surge in Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: BTC) value, suggesting a 65% increase if the cryptocurrency captures a small portion of the global liquidity and gold's market cap. What Happened: CoinShares' report posits that Bitcoin could experience a significant rally if it manages to seize just 2% of the global liquidity (global M2) and 5% of gold's market cap. The predictions are based on the total addressable market (TAM) model, a tool used to estimate the maximum market opportunity available to a product or service. In this case, the model is applied to Bitcoin, assuming it can capture the entire market. Trending: Be part of the breakthrough that could replace plastic as we know it— The report states, 'If you believe bitcoin is unlikely to compete with the cash positions of Corporate Treasuries or FX Reserves (assigning them 0%) but more likely to take a share of Global M2 (let's assume 2%) and Gold (5%), the sum of those contributions would estimate a value of $189,000/BTC.' Currently, the global liquidity (global M2) is valued at $127.3 trillion, while the total market cap of all the mined gold is $23.9 trillion. CoinShares suggests that Bitcoin is 'increasingly likely to obtain a higher share of monetary markets' as it evolves into a 'more useful form of money.' "Bitcoin does not need to replace the global monetary system to be profoundly valuable. Capturing a small share of these enormous markets would be more than enough," the report prediction comes at a time when Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are gaining traction as alternative investment options. The potential for Bitcoin to capture a portion of the global liquidity and gold's market cap could significantly impact its value, making it an attractive option for investors. The report's findings underscore the growing recognition of Bitcoin's potential in the financial market. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading at $113,352.03. The Z Fold 7 beat this brutal bend test, but how did the Flip fare?

When Zack Nelson of YouTube's JerryRigEverything put Samsung's new Z Fold 7 through his torturous durability test, the handset actually came out pretty well. Particularly impressive was how it managed to remain intact during the bend test in which Nelson used his bare hands to flex the Fold 7 against the hinge. Nelson has snapped lesser handsets clean in two before, and with a mere hinge holding the Z Fold 7 together, it seemed like a dead cert that it'd cave in under the pressure being forced upon it. But Samsung managed to design it in a way that ensures the phone's structural integrity, even in extreme situations like this. A week after subjecting the Z Fold 7 to his durability test, it was the Z Flip 7's turn to face the tools of Nelson's trade, which besides his own hands include scrapers, cutters, a lighter, and a pile of grit. Like the Z Fold 7, the Z Flip 7 was officially unveiled by Samsung last month. It's more affordable than the Fold and features a clamshell design, while the Fold opens like a book. The Flip's bend test starts at the 7:43 mark, with Nelson applying a great deal of pressure as he flexes the device backwards — a direction in which it definitely does not want to go. Impressively, the handset stays together. Nelson then bends it a second time and hears two cracks, 'signifying something cool might happen … but instead of breaking, we get nothing,' the YouTuber says. It's another win for Samsung, and while Nelson feigns disappointment, he's actually pretty impressed by Samsung's design team and what it's achieved here. Coming soon to the YouTuber's desk of horrors will be the iPhone Air, which Apple is expected to launch in just a couple of months from now. It's set to be Apple's thinnest phone ever, but will it bend or break when put to the test?
