Grieg Seafood sells operations in Canada and northern Norway
The sale includes assets and operations in Marystown, on Newfoundland's Burin Peninsula.
The company employs 110 people in the community, operating 14 seawater licences in Placentia Bay and a land-based freshwater facility with offices in Marystown.
In a news release on Thursday, Grieg said Cermaq is "well placed to take the Newfoundland region further."
"Cermaq shares our values of farming with the lowest possible environmental impact and highest possible fish welfare, as well as of respecting and contributing to the rural and Indigenous communities where the operations take place," wrote company CEO Nina Willumsen.
"We are confident that the region is in the best hands and that it will continue to create local value long into the future."
In February, Grieg hit pause on its plans to expand the large-scale salmon operation in Marystown. The decision was largely driven by an inability to find a financing partner and the threat of economic tariffs from the United States.
Construction of the 17,500-square-metre post-smolt facility had also been delayed in October 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Grieg's first harvest from Placentia Bay came in 2023 with roughly 5,000 tonnes of salmon.
The company told CBC News on Thursday it would not do interviews.

Why Paccar Stock Popped Today
Key Points Paccar beat on sales this morning -- but sales fell 15% year over year. Paccar's profits decline was even worse, down 36% year over year. Paccar pays a nice dividend, though, doesn't have too much debt, and generates good free cash flow. 10 stocks we like better than Paccar › Shares of Paccar (NASDAQ: PCAR), one of the nation's biggest truck manufacturers, jumped 4.8% through 11:55 a.m. ET Tuesday after beating on sales and meeting on earnings in its Q2 report. Analysts forecast Paccar would earn $1.37 per share in Q2, and Paccar nailed that target. Sales were only supposed to be $7 billion, however, but Paccar delivered revenue of $7.5 billion -- good news for truck demand and, potentially, for transportation stocks as well. Image source: Getty Images. Paccar Q2 earnings Not all the news was good. Paccar beat expectations with its $7.5 billion in sales, but that was still down 15% from the $8.8 billion in business the truck company did a year ago. The decline in profits was worse -- down 36% year over year. Executive VP Kevin Baney noted that despite the numbers, Paccar's Kenworth and Peterbilt brands are holding their own, with combined 30.4% market share in the U.S. and Canada in the first six months of this year. The two brands also have new electric trucks available for sale to regional haulers, with the Kenworth T680E and Peterbilt 579EV both able to travel up to 250 miles on a single charge. Is Paccar stock a buy? Priced at about 15.7 times trailing earnings (a little more than that with debt included in the equation) and paying a generous 4.6% dividend yield, Paccar stock isn't particularly expensive, though the declines in both sales and profits may give an investor pause. Free cash flow is strong as well, about $2.9 billion, backing up about 94% of reported net income. Analysts only forecast about an 8% long-term earnings growth rate for the stock, however, making it still a bit pricey. Drop the share price 20% or so, and I'd be a buyer of Paccar stock. Eglinton Crosstown LRT opening date 'very close,' says Toronto city manager
Toronto's city manager says the Eglinton Crosstown LRT opening date is very close and the transit project is in its final stages of testing. Paul Johnson told CBC Radio's Metro Morning on Tuesday that he's "blindly optimistic" that the long-delayed light rail transit will open soon. "It is very, very close. These are the last stages of really testing it," he said. The 25-stop line was initially set to open in 2020, but a series of technical problems and associated cost overruns have plagued the project and repeatedly delayed its completion. Construction on the line began in 2011. The transit line will open when it's "safe and operationally sound to do so" and testing has been going well, Johnson said on Tuesday. "It's going to open soon. Everybody's working towards that, and I know people want to know the actual date. The only thing holding back the date is, we also don't want this to be unreliable and be a very poor service when it goes in," said Johnson. He said staff have been running tests to make sure all trains have what they need to run daily. They are also checking the route timings and if all systems are working properly. Ontario Premier Doug Ford said last month that the Eglinton Crosstown LRT line was on track to open this September. September opening 'is a reach,' TTC interim CEO says At last week's TTC board meeting, outgoing TTC interim CEO Greg Percy was asked if the transit line was on track to open in September. "We're looking at still this fall to get something happening," answered Percy. "I think September is a reach, but this fall is plausible and certainly by year-end." WATCH | Percy talks about September opening date: TTC took control of the Eglinton Crosstown from Metrolinxlast month. Metrolinx CEO Michael Lindsay said at the time that the system and vehicles were being "relentlessly" stress tested. Percy said at Thursday's board meeting that the decision on the opening date still falls to Metrolinx. He said safety and customer experience are key issues, and that the TTC won't open it until "it is satisfying both."
