Park Bo Young wanted to run away on first day of Netflix's Our Unwritten Seoul: ‘I was scared viewers wouldn't see…'
Park Bo Young, in a recent interview with Dispatch Korea, opened up about the pressure she felt while signing on to Netflix's Our Unwritten Seoul. While the actor admitted that the script was too tempting to pass up and felt like the perfect opportunity to try something new in her career, she also confessed to feeling nervous and wanting to back out, worried that fans might not receive it well due to her heavy screen presence. Little did she know, the K-drama would end up dominating global OTT charts for weeks, with hitmakers like Squid Game, which recently dropped its third season. Also read: Our Unwritten Seoul first impression: Does Park Bo Young even need a male lead in her K-dramas anymore? Hailed for carrying the show on her shoulders with unmatched energy and talent, Park didn't just play twins, she portrayed four different versions of the same person. The actor managed to convey 'unknown' and 'future,' plus each pretending to be the other. Bo Young, who rose to fame with the rom-com Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, shared that despite spending so many years in the industry, it was not an easy task. Before filming even began, she admitted, 'I really wanted to run away.' But she couldn't resist the strong script and those comforting lines she believed viewers would connect with. She added, 'I was worried that viewers would think I was just appearing twice. I loved it when (the public) could distinguish between the future and the unknown.' In the K-drama, Bo Young plays Mirae, one of the twins, who is more responsible, hides her pain well, keeps her hair neat, and goes heavy on the eyeliner. Miji, on the other hand, is the exact opposite: loose strands, light liner, and not afraid to speak her mind or call out what's wrong. One works in a corporate firm in Seoul, the other lost her career as an athlete after an accident and has since been juggling multiple jobs to support her family. Their voices and body language are distinct as well. Mirae stays composed, while Miji moves more freely, more raw. Even when they switch places, Bo Young slips in small overlaps, never overplaying it. 'Ah! I really felt a lot of pressure. It was only after I agreed to do it that I thought, 'What have I done?' I wasn't sure I could pull it off. I struggled a lot on set and felt like a failure,' Bo Young recalled. 'It's been so long since my TV drama, but thankfully, there are so many good responses. I'm busy searching (for comments),' she added. Also read: Squid Game 3 ending: 7 burning questions answered in Netflix thriller finale; future possibilities explored Even on set, she revealed relying solely on her acting skills, given the technical hurdles. Twin scenes were shot with stunt doubles and later stitched together with CG, but sometimes she had to match eye levels alone and acted solo against nothing but imagination. She says, 'This was my first time doing something like this. It was really difficult, but I think I've grown a lot.' Bo Young's recent role comes after her praiseworthy performances in Concrete Utopia and Morning Comes to the Mental Ward, showing a change in her career trajectory from earlier rom-coms and softer roles. Meanwhile, she is also gearing up for her next series, Goldland, set to hit Disney+ screens. Park Bo Young has been acting since she was a teen, and it has already been 20 years for her in the industry, with shows like Healer, Daily Dose of Sunshine, Oh My Ghost, etc. She remembered the early days when directors scolded her so much she'd cry. 'I wondered if I was cut out for this,' she said. But thanks to those doubts, she kept going. Now, she sounds humble and grateful. 'Acting feels like it was my destiny,' she says. 'After twenty years, I feel like I've grown a little. I just want to keep conveying my heart when I read scripts.'

Earlier, in During her conversation with Curly Tales, Smriti Irani shared an interesting anecdote about how she landed the role of Tulsi in "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi." She mentioned, "That didn't happen because of persona or personality or anything else. Astrologer baitha tha ek Ekta Kapoor ke office mein toh panditji ne kaha yeh joh ladki abhi ghum rahi hai wahan pe, isko rokiye, yeh kaun hai (An astrologer was sitting in Ekta Kapoor's office. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo So the priest said, 'Who is this girl roaming around? Unhone kahan isko agar tum rokoge, iss se kaam karoge, yeh bahut bada desh mein naam hone wali hai (So, she said, 'Why, why should we stop her?' He said, 'If you stop her, if you work with her, she is going to be a big name in the country). The minute the astrologer finished his sentence, Ekta immediately came and asked her 'What was I signing'. As per the contract, I was getting paid around Rs 1200-1300 per day." Smriti recalled the moment, mentioning that this was when Ekta Kapoor tore up her existing contract and chose to offer her a new one, paying her Rs 1,800 per day. She added, "Aur usne kaha kya sign kar rahi ho. Toh mujhe uss waqt kareeban rs 1200-1300 milen wale the uss contract mein. Aur main uss wqat naukri kar rahi thi Mc Donald's mein jhaadu pochhe ki jisme mahine ka Rs 1800 mil raha tha. Toh mere liye din ka Rs 1200 was much better than mahine ka Rs 1800. Mere paas uss waqt naukri nahi thi aisi. Agar aap Rs 1800 mahine ka kamate ho aur aap 22-23 saal ke ho aur aapko apna ghar chalana hai, aapke paas option nahi hai. " (He asked me, 'What are you signing?' I was going to receive between rupees 1200 to 1400 in the contract. At that time, I was working as a cleaner at McDonald's, earning Rs 1800 per month. So, earning Rs 1200 per day was much better for me than Rs 1800 per month. I didn't have another job then. When you're 22-23 years old, earning Rs 1800 per month and supporting a household, you don't have many options). The much-anticipated reboot of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is set to premiere from July 29 at 10:30 PM. After sharing a stiff, arm-heavy swing on July 4, fans instantly compared him to none other than Charles Barkley—golf's most legendary disaster. The clip went viral, the jokes rolled in, and suddenly LeBron's greatness on the court meant nothing on the green. Could he really be worse than Chuck? That's what everyone's asking. LeBron James' day 2 golf debut sparks instant Charles Barkley comparisons LeBron shared his most recent swing on July 4, describing golf as "a mind f**k to say the least."
