Health minister inaugurates new facilities at IGIMS

Patna: Health minister Mangal Pandey on Tuesday inaugurated four new facilities in the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS). The facilities have been developed with an expenditure of Rs 8 crore and include paediatric oncology ward, two modular OTs, robotic operated physiotherapy and molecular pharmacology research lab in the pharmacology department.

The minister said the 12-bed paediatric oncology ward has been built to provide a family-like atmosphere to the children undergoing treatment there. The facilities include playing, studying with a child psychologist and dietician.
The minister, along with Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia, also met children who have overcome cancer with great joy and inquired about their well-being.
Pandey said the modern modular OTs in the cancer department include high quality ventilation and filtration systems for infection control of the patients of the State Cancer Centre during and after surgery.
"The new OTs will prove to be more effective in the fight against cancer," he said.
The minister thanked the IOCL for providing funds under CSR for the modern equipment in the physiotherapy department. "It will help in the treatment of spinal pain, spondylitis, problems due to nerve compression etc. An attempt is being made to give a modern form to physiotherapy for many diseases like brain injury, Parkinson and stroke.
The equipment have been developed with indigenous technology by experts from institutions like AIIMS, New Delhi and IIT," he said.
The minister thanked the IGIMS director, Dr Binde Kumar, deputy director (administration) Dr Vibhuti Prasanna Sinha, all senior doctors, Dr Nilesh Mohan, Dr Jayant Prakash, Dr Rakesh Kumar Singh, Dr P K Dubey, Dr P K Jha, Dr Santosh Kumar, Dr Raj Kumar, Dr Nitesh Kumar, Dr Pradeep Jaiswal and Dr Pritpal Singh for their continuous service to the patients.

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Genomic diagnostics and research services company MedGenome on Monday said it has raised USD 47.5 million (over Rs 409 crore) in Series E funding round from private equity firm Maj Invest and existing investor Novo Holdings. The round also saw participation from Sofina, an existing shareholder in the company, the Bengaluru-based firm said in a statement. The funding will enable the company to broaden access to its genomics and integrated diagnostics solutions across India and other emerging markets, it added. 'This fundraise also reflects the growing adoption of genomics in personalised and preventive healthcare in India as well as other emerging economies," MedGenome CEO Vedam Ramprasad said. MedGenome offers over 1,300 high-end genetic tests across major disease categories – oncology, inherited diseases, reproductive diseases, infectious diseases, and preventive wellness. ADIA to invest $200 million in Gujarat-based medtech co Meril

Ahmedabad: Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) on Sunday announced it has signed definitive agreements to invest USD 200 million (approximately Rs 1,723 crore) in Gujarat-based medical devices manufacturer Meril, acquiring close to a 3% stake. The transaction values Meril at $6.6 billion (around Rs 56,859 crore). The deal awaits regulatory approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI). The investment marks ADIA's latest play in India's expanding medical devices manufacturing space. Following the completion of the deal, Meril will be backed by two prominent global investors - ADIA and Warburg Pincus , which had earlier invested in the company. Founded by the Bilakhia Group, Meril is headquartered in Vapi, where it operates a 100-acre, vertically integrated MedTech campus powered entirely by green energy. The company develops and manufactures a range of clinically advanced products including cardiovascular devices, structural heart solutions, surgical robotics, orthopaedic implants, in-vitro diagnostics, and endo-surgery technologies. By far, Meril has invested Rs 1,400 crore in its Vapi facility. In Dec 2024, the company also inaugurated its new medical devices plant in Vapi. Meril exports its products to over 150 countries through a network of more than 35 subsidiaries. The company employs over 13,000 people globally and operates 12 international training academies, where it trains more than 10,000 healthcare professionals annually. tnn

Brigade Hotel Ventures, the hospitality subsidiary of Bengaluru-based real estate major Brigade Enterprises Ltd (BEL), has announced the launch of its initial public offering ( IPO ), setting a price band of Rs 85 to Rs 90 per share. The issue, totaling Rs 759.60 crore, is entirely a fresh offer with no Offer for Sale (OFS) component, ensuring that all proceeds will go directly towards funding the company's growth initiatives. The IPO will open for subscription on July 24 and close on July 28. Investors can bid for a minimum of 166 shares and in multiples thereafter. The allotment of shares is expected to be finalized on July 29, with the company aiming for a July 31 listing on both the BSE and NSE. The funds raised through the IPO will be strategically allocated. Approximately Rs 468.14 crore will be used to repay existing debt, while Rs 107.52 crore will go towards acquiring an undivided share of land from the promoter, BEL. The remaining proceeds will be used for acquisitions, other strategic initiatives, and general corporate purposes indicating a strong intent to deleverage and expand operations. Brigade Hotel Ventures began its journey in the hospitality sector in 2004 and opened its first hotel, Grand Mercure Bangalore, in 2009. The company now operates nine hotels across key urban centers including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chennai, Kochi, and Gujarat's GIFT City, offering a total of 1,604 keys. Its properties are operated under prestigious international brands like Marriott, Accor, and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), adding credibility and operational strength to its growing portfolio. In terms of IPO allocation, 75% of the issue is reserved for Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs), 15% for Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs), and the remaining 10% for retail investors. Earlier this month, Brigade Hotel Ventures raised Rs 126 crore in a pre-IPO round by issuing shares to 360 ONE Alternates Asset Management, highlighting early institutional interest. With strong backing from its parent company, partnerships with global hotel chains, and a clear roadmap for growth and financial strengthening, Brigade Hotel Ventures' IPO could attract significant attention from investors looking to tap into India's recovering hospitality sector.
