No plan to give loans to beneficiaries of Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme: Maharashtra minister Aditi Tatkare

'Under the scheme, there is a provision to provide financial benefit of Rs 1,500 per month to eligible beneficiary women. In the financial year 2025-26, a budgetary provision of Rs 28,290 crore has been made for the general category, Rs 3,240 crore for the tribal category under the Tribal Development department and Rs 3,960 crore for the Scheduled Caste and Neo-Buddhist category under the Social Justice and Special Assistance department. Accordingly, the funds made available have been distributed to pay financial benefits to eligible beneficiary women,' said the reply.
The department accepted that under the scheme, 2,289 women state government employees benefited. 'Their benefits have been discontinued,' Tatkare said in her written reply.
In May this year, Pawar had said the government was exploring partnerships with cooperative and regional banks to facilitate these loans. 'District cooperative banks can give Rs 30,000-40,000 loan to my sisters which can be the capital to start a small business. And Rs 1,500 every month will get deposited in these banks every month which will repay the loan amount,' Pawar had said at a programme in Nande district's Mukhed. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too had said the state government was working to ensure the financial aid provided under it brings gainful benefits to beneficiaries. Replying to a question about the details of the scheme announced by Pawar, the minister in her written reply said that no such plan is on the cards at present.
The 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana', the flagship scheme of the previous Eknath Shinde-led government, was formally launched in August last year. Under the scheme, eligible below poverty line women get financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month through direct benefit transfer (DBT).

Kolkata: The state animal resources development department is looking at investment from private players for processing meat of Black Bengal goat and boost its export in global markets. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now State animal resources development (ARD) minister Swapan Debnath on Thursday asked stakeholders in the meat industry to invest in development of processing units to promote Black Bengal goat in international markets. He was speaking at a business conclave on animal husbandries and fisheries organised by Merchants' Chamber of Commerce. Special secretary in the ARD department Abhijit Shevale said in Purulia's Jhalda, about 300 farmers, mostly women, are farming Black Bengal goats that have a huge potential for export. Debnath said: "The Black Bengal goat's meat has huge potential and we request the private sector to harvest it in other parts of the state. They can invest in the processing of this goat meat and help rural farmers with a global platform." In Bengal, the total sale of meat, especially of chicken and mutton, has increased from Rs 34 crore to Rs 106 crore over last year. The ARD department has also included pig meat recently through a Broiler Integrated Project taken up three years ago. West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation Ltd (WBLDCL) witnessed a turnover of Rs 1,600 crore last year. Utpal Kumar Karmakar, MD of WBLDCL, said: "We are giving the piglets to marginal farmers, especially women, for harvesting pig meat. We have started exporting pig meat from Alipurduar, Siliguri and Jalpaiguri to countries like Bhutan, Bahrain, Qatar through private players." Bengal has also started supplying fish like prawns, rohu and catla to Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, according to fisheries minister Biplab Roy Chowdhury. "In one year, we would be able to reduce our dependence on Andhra Pradesh for fish supply," he said.

2,289 govt. staff taken off beneficiary list of Ladki Bahin Yojana
The Maharashtra government has removed 2,289 government employees from the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana following a verification drive to weed out ineligible beneficiaries and ensure targeted delivery of the welfare scheme for women. Their names were removed from the list of beneficiaries, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said in a written reply to the State Assembly on Thursday, adding that her department has stepped up efforts to cross-check beneficiaries and uphold the integrity of the flagship scheme. Launched by the BJP-led Mahayuti government in August 2023 ahead of the November 2024 Assembly election, the scheme provides monthly aid of ₹1,500 to nearly 2.4 crore women in the 21-65 age group through direct benefit transfer to improve their health, nutrition, and decision-making capacity. In May this year, Ms. Tatkare said it was detected that over 2,200 government employees were receiving the aid despite being ineligible for it. With the latest update, the number of such ineligible beneficiaries stands at 2,289. The Minister also informed the Assembly that for 2025-26, the budgetary allocation for the scheme has been made from the general category funds (₹28,290 crore) of her department as well as ₹3,240 crore from the Tribal Development Department's funds and ₹3,960 crore from the funds of the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department. Loan facility The State government is also considering a proposal to allow the beneficiaries of the scheme to take loans against the monthly instalment and start micro-businesses, the Minister said.

Udupi: Udupi district has embraced the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana by selecting five villages to compete for the title of Model Solar Village.
