However, the accused, Frank Chibuzar Nandi, has claimed that the narcotics were planted on him and that he has been falsely implicated in the case.
According to police, acting on a specific tip-off, officers laid a trap near PJ Colony, Orlem Marve Road in Malad, and intercepted Nandi, who was reportedly carrying a bag. Upon searching the bag, police said they recovered 200 grams of white powder suspected to be a narcotic substance.
A field drug test confirmed it to be cocaine. Police also seized a Honda City car from Nandi's possession.
A panchnama was drawn on the spot, and Nandi was produced before the Holiday Court on Sunday. While the police sought custody for further investigation, the accused told the court that he had been framed.

I completely deny this," Nandi said in open court when asked if he had any complaints.

‘Nimisha Priya faces execution in Yemenon July 16'
Kochi: Keralite nurse Nimisha Priya, currently on death row at the central prison in Yemen's capital Sana'a for the murder of a Yemeni national, is scheduled to be executed on July 16, according to human rights activist Samuel Jerome, who holds the power of attorney for Nimisha's mother Prema Kumari. However, there has been no official confirmation of the execution date from the Indian embassy in Yemen, ministry of external affairs (MEA) or Save Nimisha Priya Action Council. Jerome said the execution order was issued by the public prosecutor's office and handed over to prison authorities, who fixed July 16 as the date. Nimisha, a native of Kollengode in Palakkad, was accused of murdering Talal Abdo Mahdi — with whom she had started a health clinic in Sana'a and later reportedly entered into a marriage — in July 2017. She allegedly chopped his body and dumped the body parts in a water tank. Mahdi had reportedly tortured Nimisha and illegally seized her passport, which led to the murder. A trial court sentenced her to death in 2018, a verdict later upheld by an appeals court. Jerome said Nimisha and the MEA had been informed of the execution decision. He added that negotiations with Mahdi's family and tribal leaders over the payment of blood money would be expedited in view of the prison authorities' decision. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Here's what a microbiologist says CNA Read More Undo "Hope still remains. Mahdi's family can forgive her even at the last moment. Govt of India can also intervene now for her release...," said Jerome, who added that he will arrive in Yemen on Wednesday to hold further discussions. Subhash Chandran of the Save Nimisha Priya Action Council, however, said they had not received any confirmation of the execution date. "We are in close contact with multiple organisations in Yemen and embassy officials. We have not received any information regarding the execution so far," he said. Negotiations for Nimisha's release suffered a major setback last year when the lawyer appointed by the Indian Embassy demanded a pre-negotiation fee of over Rs 15 lakh. The action council managed to arrange $40,000 through mediators, but the effort fell through midway. Subhash said the council had established contact with Mahdi's family and was working to start negotiation talks, although the family has yet to make a demand for blood money. The prevailing political situation in Yemen is also a major challenge to secure Nimisha's release. While Sana'a is under the control of Houthi militias, the rest of the country is governed by an internationally recognised, Saudi-backed govt and UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC). The Yemeni embassy in Delhi represents the Saudi-backed govt and has no official ties with the Houthis.

Awareness first line of defence against cybercrime, says Gurgaon top cop
Gurgaon: The city saw an uptick in cybercrime cases, with more than a 17-fold increase in 2024 compared to 2021. Cybercrime recorded a skyrocketing trend from 79 to 1,300 cases by last year. Meanwhile, police action in terms of arrests also reflected a corresponding rise, though there was a substantial gap between the cases reported and arrests made. According to data obtained by TOI through a Right to Information (RTI) query, the number of cyber fraud cases registered by the city police showed a steep and alarming rise over the past few years, highlighting the growing threat of digital crimes in the region. Cyber fraud cases rose significantly to 216 in 2022, from 79 a year ago. The upward trend continued in 2023, with 589 cases recorded, and surged further in 2024, reaching a staggering 1,358 cases. However, there were zero arrests in 2021 despite the 79 cases registered that year. In 2022, 157 people were arrested in connection with cyber fraud cases, followed by 403 arrests in 2023. The number jumped to 1,064 in 2024. While this shows an improvement in enforcement, the growing number of cases continues to outpace arrests, underlining the urgent need for enhanced cyber policing and investigation infrastructure. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doom: The Dark Ages on Click Here Undo You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon A police official said, "The complex and technical nature of the investigation often involves cross-border digital trails, use of encrypted communication and anonymous transactions through crypto-wallets or fake accounts. This makes it a time-taking process." City police commissioner Vikas Arora said, "Cybercrime doesn't target one group anymore. It affects anyone with a phone or internet access. We aim to make people understand the mechanics behind these frauds and the importance of swift reporting. It's not about being naive — it's about being misled under pressure. Awareness is the first line of defence." Arora said this while interacting with IT professionals at a cybersecurity awareness workshop organised by Gurgaon Police, Nagarro, NASSCOM and GACS (Global Association for Corporate Services) on Monday. The commissioner said among the key types of cyber frauds are investment scams, parcel and customs frauds, vishing (voice phishing), task-based online scams and fraudulent listings in search engines.

‘Government is deeply broken': Elon Musk questions people's faith in Trump amid Epstein files row; US President dodges question
ANI file photo Elon Musk , former ally of US President Donald Trump , has once again brought the Jeffrey Epstein controversy into the spotlight. The Tech billionaire publicly questioned US President Donald Trump's credibility over the unresolved Jeffrey Epstein case, accusing the government of shielding offenders and calling it 'deeply broken. ' In a series of provocative posts on X, Musk criticised Trump for not releasing the so-called 'Epstein client list' and mocked the lack of arrests, even suggesting the former president may be implicated, a claim he later retracted. 'They arrested (and killed) Peanut, but have not even tried to file charges against anyone on the Epstein client list. Govt is deeply broken," said Musk. He posted an image that read, 'More squirrels and raccoons have been arrested than anyone on Epstein's client list.' 'How can people be expected to have faith in Trump if he won't release the Epstein files?' he posted on X on Wednesday. On Monday, Musk targeted Trump over the Epstein case, posting an arrest counter, 'What's the time? Oh look, it's no-one-has-been-arrested-o'clock again …' he posted on his X account. 'The Official Jeffrey Epstein Pedophile Arrest Counter 0 0 0 0,' the image he posted read. On Tuesday, Trump avoided answering a question by a reporter on the Jeffrey Epstein case and said, 'You are a waste of time,' stressing that the country is dealing with 'other issues' like the Texas flood. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The US Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday concluded that sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was not murdered, as per Axios. The memo suggested that Epstein allegedly died by suicide and also did not keep a 'client list' keeping a tab of individuals to whom minor girls were trafficked. Elon Musk accused Donald Trump of being in the 'Epstein Files' but later deleted his posts, admitting that he went 'too far.' Earlier this year, Attorney General Pam Bondi made a claim that a 'client list' was apparently sitting on his desk for review, which fueled speculation among conservative influencers and conspiracy theorists that such a list truly existed. But an announcement by the DOJ debunked such claims, stating that no such list has been found in Epstein's records. This announcement has drawn criticism from conservative internet and media personalities as it contradicted what Bondi claimed. Elon Musk posted a meme on his X account featuring a clown applying makeup, referring to the contradictory statements previously made by Bondi and the memo released by the DOJ earlier on Monday. He also reposted a post from another user that read, 'If the entire govt is protecting pedophiles, it has officially become the govt against people. I hope you all understand that.' Jeffrey Epstein was convicted of being a sexual offender and was accused of running a vast network of underage girls for sex. He died in 2019 while in custody.
