What to know ahead of St. Patrick's Parade Weekend in Holyoke?
'I'm looking forward to a great family friendly day in the city of Holyoke,' said Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan.
A year's worth planning comes down to this one weekend, parade weekend in Holyoke.
'We come together and not only celebrate the culture of our Irish brothers and sisters, but also the culture of friendship,' said Holyoke Mayor Joshua Garcia.
But before the parade even kicks off, the monumental weekend begins with the Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race. The first event to bring the community together for the celebrations.
'One of the things I've always look forward to is shooting the gun to start the road race so I'm very excited to do that. It'll be a fun experience for sure,' said the 2025 Holyoke Grand Colleen, Moira Reardon.
With a goal for everyone to have an enjoyable weekend when it comes to the Road Race and the Parade, the City of Holyoke has a few reminders for those attending both events, especially for when it comes to road closures.
For safety, many roads will be closed throughout the weekend for the road race and for the parade. For parade Sunday, a majority of the roads that will be closed are along the parade route.

The parade will kick off marching north on Northampton Street before turning right onto Beech street. It will then continue east on Appleton Street before making the final turn onto High Street.
The Committee say road closures typically begin an hour or so prior to the 11:10 am start.
Exit 15 on I-91 will also be closed by the state police.
Holyoke Police also want to remind spectators that backpacks are strongly discouraged, and both large jugs of alcohol and drones are prohibited.

ESPN believes that Notre Dame will have a very early swing game for the 2025 season
If you haven't looked ahead to what Notre Dame football's first few weeks of the 2025 season look like, it's a very front-loaded schedule. The Irish open the season on the road against Miami, then hosting Texas A&M in the home opener. Starting the season against two ranked teams will be a big test for Notre Dame, and ESPN believes that the first game of the year will be its swing game. Mark Schlabach went into details on why this is such an important game for the Irish as he said 'Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman won't have to wait long to learn if his team is a CFP (College Football Playoff) national title contender.' He isn't wrong, and due to the fact that this 'will be a tremendous test for Notre Dame's new starting quarterback, presumably redshirt freshman CJ Carr,' as Schlabach said, it won't be an easy contest. Unfortunately for Freeman, he hasn't done all that well early in the season, in his first the Irish lost the initial two games, then his second was much better, but the competition wasn't nearly at the same level. Last year Northern Illinois knocked off the Irish in the second game, but Notre Dame did win the opener on the road against A&M. There will be a much different focus for the Irish this coming fall, as the expectations for the program have risen significantly due to its impressive 2024 run in the CFP. Don't expect Freeman to ask Carr or even Kenny Minchey to do all that much in the opener, as they'll both still be getting their feet wet at this level. He'll lean on the elite defense, and hopefully the Irish return to South Bend with an early swing game victory. BetMGM places Notre Dame's season win total at 10.5
There is plenty of national buzz surrounding Notre Dame football as we get closer to the start of the 2025 college football season, so it's no surprise that BetMGM has placed a high win total on Marcus Freeman's squad. The Fighting Irish are one of four teams to lead the way at 10.5 wins, per the sportsbook. Also at 10.5 are Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State. The next tier of teams sit at 9.5: Alabama, Boise State, Clemson, Georgia, Liberty, Miami and Texas. The Irish open the new season at Miami on August 31, a critical game that could set the tone for the entire season. But after that tough contest, the schedule is doable: another road game against Arkansas, but Texas A&M, Boise State and USC have to come to South Bend. Would you take the over or under on ND at 10.5 wins?
