Cowboys Have Rivals On Notice For One Clear Reason
Cowboys Have Rivals On Notice For One Clear Reason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO — Dallas Cowboys fans have begged and pleaded in recent years for their team to make the gamble and go after a big name by trade or through free agency. A year ago, they infamously allowed Derrick Henry to sign with the Baltimore Ravens despite a perfectly clear avenue to pursue him. Advertisement This offseason, they made the necessary moves through free agency and the draft. However, they had not pursued any needle-moving players through those major acquisition periods. That all changed in May when the Cowboys traded for George Pickens, providing a major upgrade at the wide receiver position. This gives Dallas one of the most formidable duos on paper heading into next season. But the Cowboys are not the only ones aware of the enormity of this deal. Their aggressive maneuvering has their most staunch adversaries on notice. 'The spotlight is on him because I've talked with a lot of people around the league, including the NFC East. That Pickens trade has their full attention,' ESPN's Fowler said Saturday. Advertisement 'They believe that really does add a new dimension because he's one of the best contested ball-catchers in the entire league. If he can stay on the upright, keep that maturity sort of in check in a contract year, he'll do big things with CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.' The duality of Pickens' and Lamb's talents should blend together with brilliance. Lamb's precision as a route runner out of the slot combining with Pickens' downfield presence makes for a tantalizing air-raid punch. But if foes around the NFC East are taking notice, it's because they have done the same things to establish themselves as contenders. The Washington Commanders made trades for Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel at the star of the offseason while the Philadelphia Eagles have stretched their big moves over the last several years. A trade for A.J. Brown a few years back and the signing of Saquon Barkley a year ago made them undeniable in their quest for a title. Advertisement Time will tell if a similar fate awaits the Cowboys. Regardless, the trade for Pickens is reflective of that contending mindset and one that could pay off in a major way. Eagles Tight End Explains Reason For Pay Cut
Eagles Tight End Explains Reason For Pay Cut originally appeared on Athlon Sports. At one point this offseason, there was a belief that Philadelphia Eagles standout Dallas Goedert had played his final game with the organization. The former second-round tight end, who carried a cap hit of over $11 million, had struggled with injuries over the last few years. Advertisement The money didn't match the level of production Philly had expected. Despite all the twists and turns this offseason brought, however, Goedert and the team found a way to reach an agreement ... one that keeps him with the Eagles for the 2025 season. As part of the new deal, Goedert took a pay cut to remain with Philly for the final year of his contract. It's a safe bet that 2025 will officially be his final year with the organization now more than ever. But that doesn't mean the veteran is bothered about that reality. He's happy to be a part of the team's push for a repeat championship this season. Advertisement It's a big reason he was willing to take a lesser deal. "When I got drafted a year after they won the Super Bowl, I was able to experience the fun parts of a Super Bowl the year after winning the Super Bowl," Goedert said on ESPN's "NFL Live," as transcribed by Nick Shook. "After we won and the opportunity to run it back again to see the banner drop, it just wouldn't have felt -- it would have felt I was missing on a lot not being there to see all that stuff." Philadelphia has used Goedert, along with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, as an essential piece in its passing offense. The trio has been one of the best in football over the last few years. Advertisement If Goedert can stay healthy, he can make his final year in Philly one for the record books. At the very least, the Eagles should be able to maintain their title as a Super Bowl contender with their star pass catcher. Bills 'Staple' Tight End Predicted To Have Poor Season
Bills 'Staple' Tight End Predicted To Have Poor Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox has been a staple of the offense since 2019 and has been a crucial part of how things roll for Josh Allen's unit. Advertisement But over the past couple of seasons, Knox has been pushed to the outer of the offense with the arrival of Dalton Kincaid. And it is here where things might get sticky. Knox had two seasons of 500+ yards and six touchdowns, but in his last two, his stats have fallen off a cliff, and in 2025, it is about to get rather dire for Dawson. The tight end has an out in his contract after this season, which, per will only have the Bills pay $7.4 million in dead cap charges. But if Knox plays well, maybe an extension could be on the way. However, in Mike Clay's 2025 projections for ESPN, Knox is projected to have his worst season statistically ever. Dawson posts just 185 yards and two touchdowns from 17 receptions. Advertisement That isn't ideal. Jan 26, 2025; Kansas City, MO, USA; Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox (88) makes a catch against Kansas City Chiefs safety Jaden Hicks (21) during the second half in the AFC Championship game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-Imagn Images Denny Medley-Imagn Images With Kincaid's emergence as a genuine pass-catching weapon, that is something Knox has never really been, with Dalton's rookie season better than any Knox has had in six seasons. There is a definite shift in the tight end pecking order, and while Knox as a blocker offers more than Kincaid, if the veteran does have the year Clay projects, we wonder what that might mean for his future in Buffalo. A staple of the offense for years, with a humble and no-fuss attitude that puts the team first, maybe Knox's time in the AFC East might come to an end.
