NIA secures cancellation of interim bail for Shahbaz Ansari after he goes missing
12 Jul 2025, 21:36 GMT+10
New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has secured the cancellation of the interim bail granted to Shahbaz Ansari, arrested in December 2022 for supplying arms and ammunition to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, after he went missing.
A special NIA court revoked the bail after the agency submitted that Ansari had misled the court to secure temporary release.
According to officials, Ansari obtained interim bail last month from a vacation bench, falsely claiming that his wife required urgent surgery. However, following his release, he went into hiding, prompting the agency to file for cancellation of his bail.
As per the NIA, the court accepted its plea, citing misuse of judicial relief and violation of bail conditions.
The agency said that 'a manhunt has been launched to trace Ansari, who is now on the run.'
'Authorities suspect he may be attempting to evade further legal proceedings in the arms supply case linked to organised crime networks,' said the NIA. (ANI)

Supreme Court: Company can file criminal case against fake product sellers
Supreme Court (ANI) NEW DELHI: In a decision that would pave way for corporates to protect their interests under criminal law, particularly relating to sale of counterfeit/fake products, Supreme Court has ruled that an aggrieved company is entitled to pursue criminal case against accused in such cases under Criminal Procedure Code to file appeal against acquittal or for enhancement of sentence. A bench of Justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra said that the term 'victim' used in CrPC includes in its definition a company. It quashed Rajasthan High Court order which had said that a company could not file an appeal against an acquittal order. Facing an unusual situation where a person selling fake product on its name got acquitted in a criminal case but it was not allowed to file an appeal, Asian Paints moved the apex court through Singh Law Chambers. It submitted that the term 'person' in Section 2(wa) of the CrPC also includes a 'Company or Association or body of persons and it would fall within the contours of the term 'victim'. Advocate Ajay Singh, appearing for the company, told SC that the case was registered on a complaint filed by company's representative for infringement of its copyright and loss/injury in terms of its reputation and financial losses and the company should be allowed to file appeal against acquittal of accused. Agreeing with Singh's plea, the bench said the company suffered due to the counterfeit/fake products being sold as having been manufactured by it. "The appellant (Asian Paints) would suffer financial loss and reputational injury if such products would be bought by the public under the mistaken belief that the same belonged to the appellant's brand," the bench said, while explaining how the company is a victim in the case. "Section 2(wa) of the CrPC defines 'victim' in plain and simple language as a 'person who has suffered any loss or injury caused by reason of the act or omission for which the accused person has been charged...'. It is clear that Section 2(wa) of the CrPC has thoughtfully accorded an expansive understanding to the term 'victim' and not a narrow or restricted meaning," the bench said, while allowing the plea of Asian Paints. Sole Occupant Hijacks Small Plane, Arrested After Landing In Vancouver
Travel at one of Canada's busiest airports was briefly halted Tuesday after federal police received a report that a small plane had been "hijacked," officials said. Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the western Canadian province of British Columbia said that at 1:10 pm (2010 GMT) they received a report that a Cessna 172 "had been hijacked from the Vancouver Island area and was entering into airspace near Vancouver International Airport." "The suspect was the sole occupant of the aircraft," the statement added. The plane landed in Vancouver at 1:45 pm (2045 GMT) and the "suspect was arrested without incident," the RCMP said, declining to provide further details. Images published by public broadcaster CBC show the small white Cessna surrounded by security vehicles on a runway after landing in Vancouver. The CBC reported the Cessna was operated by a flying club in Victoria, the provincial capital located on Vancouver Island. Vancouver International Airport said nine inbound flights were diverted during the incident with a temporary halt to operations ordered across the airport in the West Coast city.
