George Costanza, $3K Caitlin Clark Rookie Royalty Breaks & the $80 Popcorn Bucket Craze

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - JUNE 27: Caitlin Clark #22 of the Indiana Fever reacts to a score during the first half of a game against the Dallas Wings at American Airlines Center on June 27, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. NOTE TO USER: User expressly acknowledges and agrees that, by downloading and or using this photograph, User is consenting to the terms and conditions of the Getty Images License Agreement. (Photo by) Metz here again, filling in for our glorious leader. This past week had everyone asking the same question: will the Houston Rockets win the 2026 NBA Finals in four games or five? No? Just me? Anyway… Durant's arrival on the Rockets gives him the card collector's equivalent of a rainbow. Naturally, we had to dig in and find his best cards from each of his teams. The other thing I couldn't stop thinking about was how mispriced Panini's Rookie Royalty set was, dropping all the way from a $30,000 starting price to around $3,000. As a huge Caitlin Clark fan and WNBA collector, I'd love to buy in, but I can't even afford a break, let alone a full box. Break pricing for Rookie Royalty spots is popping up on various apps, and it looks like some shops are splitting two-card boxes into up to 58 spots, perhaps the worst odds to hit of all time. Still, with multiple Caitlin Clark cards selling for six figures in the last few weeks alone, a few people are going to have their lives changed by this product in the next few weeks — if not already. With that off my chest, let's dive into some of the other news we found interesting this week. Remember that crazy-looking Dune 2 sandworm popcorn bucket? The one that kinda looked like a… uhh... yeah. Well, it's kicked off an entirely new line of collectibles. It's popular on both sides of the spectrum. Designer groups are begging theaters to let them create something iconic, and moviegoers are begging to own them. These novelty containers cost anywhere from twenty-five to eighty dollars and sell out on opening weekend, if not opening day. Fans even camp outside theaters for midnight shows, hoping to snag limited runs that later fetch hundreds on eBay. Do you own any popcorn buckets? We would love to see them on Mantel. There's something utterly 2025 about a white hedge-fund billionaire dropping the average person's dinner money on Lincoln's 13th Amendment. If it belongs in a museum, odds are it'll fetch a small fortune at auction later this year. Remember when a Twitter crypto community tried to buy the Constitution and mint it into a coin? Well, this is the same guy who outbid them and spoiled everyone's fun. So if you ever unearth a piece of American history in your grandfather's basement, tuck it away, one day a billionaire might be willing to pay handsomely for it. A ballpark bobblehead taps into the sports fan inside us all. It's a time-honored tradition even your parents remember fondly. But today's collectors want more than a run-of-the-mill player figure. No doubt, the Yankees front office knew this would be a smash hit the second it was suggested. Jason Alexander cards (yes, George Costanza himself) fly off the auction block and are nearly impossible to track down . They fetch high prices for the same reason Netflix's 'Pieces of Shit for Breakfast' cereal boxes from Fanatics Fest sell for $40 bucks on eBay . Millennials love nostalgia and they love collecting. MLB All-Star voting resumed Monday, and while Ohtani and Judge are locks, the real market movers may be the breakout stars. Pete Crow-Armstrong's 1st Bowman Draft auto has jumped from around $300 to $550 this season, and a big All-Star performance could make the perfect time to sell. Jacob Wilson's Chrome 1st auto surged 218% in three months, making his red rookie a bargain entry at $50-$60 IF he wins ROY. Keep an eye on Acuña Jr for a Home Run Derby spike, and don't sleep on Javier Báez's redemption narrative fueling his rookie autos. Collectible Grading Authority, best known for its AFA toy grading and VGA video game grading, just passed into new hands, led by Kenner Star Wars toy guru Tom Derby. In 2025, as graded collectibles soar in value, reliable authentication has never mattered more. CGA, spun out of Diamond Comics' bankruptcy, will stay in Georgia with its expert team and aims to expand services and innovate grading standards. For toy and game collectors, this means greater stability and confidence when investing in rare pieces. If you are a toy and game collector, you should be thrilled with this news. Now for some business. We are always looking for ways to improve Mantel and we want YOU to be a part of it. Please take our latest feedback survey and help shape the future of Mantel.

Can LeBron James help maddening Deandre Ayton transform into a reliable center?

The Lakers found their next starting center, and they didn't have to give up Austin Reaves to land him. There's a reason why. As athletic and skilled as Deandre Ayton is for a 7-footer, he's better known at this stage of his career for his shortcomings. His maddening inconsistency. His uninspired defense. His lack of motivation. His inability to stay healthy. If you didn't like Anthony Davis, you're going to hate Ayton. Davis was always accountable or at very least not tone deaf, which Ayton apparently is. 'I got nothing to prove in this league,' Ayton once told veteran NBA reporter Mark Medina. 'I'm a max player, and I'll continue to be a max player.' Little wonder the Portland Trail Blazers officially gave up on Ayton during the weekend by buying out his contract, opening the door for the Lakers to pick him up at a bargain price. The Lakers are wagering they can do what the Trail Blazers, and the Phoenix Suns before them, couldn't. They are betting they can start the engine inside of Ayton and keep it roaring. From a physical and technical standpoint, Ayton is capable of being the player the Lakers need him to be. However, most athletes who don't already have something burning inside of them at 26 don't suddenly discover fire at 27, which is how old Ayton will be later this month. Which is why the Lakers should be grateful they still have LeBron James. Who better to show a chronic underachiever how to maximize his gifts than a player preparing for a record 23rd season? Conversely, the NBA's all-time leading scorer can't inspire Ayton, who or what will? The 40-year-old James will give the Lakers a chance to reach Ayton, which, in turn, will give them a chance to contend for another championship. With their current roster, the Lakers clearly remain behind the NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves. The Lakers belong with the next tier of Western Conference teams, alongside the Golden State Warriors and Clippers. That's more or less where they were last season. The Lakers are still looking for shooters. They still have to figure out how they're going to stop anyone. They also need Ayton to be more than the player he was in his first seven NBA seasons, even with his respectable career averages of 16.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. James will lead by example. He will model the work habits required to be a consistent performer. He will display an attention to detail that will make Ayton recalibrate how he thinks of the game. Reaves has benefited from his proximity to James. So has Rui Hachimura. Then again, Reaves and Hachimura were open to such guidance. Is Ayton? Rewiring Ayton's 27-year-old brain might feel like a longshot, but consider this: Ayton was at his best when he played alongside a strong veteran presence. Ayton was a third-year player on the Suns when they acquired a 35-year-old Chris Paul before the 2020-21 season. With Ayton playing a starring role, the Suns went on to reach the NBA finals, where they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks. The postseason run offered an example of how Ayton could respond positively to experienced leadership, as well as how he could be best deployed on the court. The mobile Ayton was a dangerous threat for Paul, and he should be a dangerous lob threat for Luka Doncic. The ability of Ayton to knock down midrange jumpers spaced the floor for the Suns, and that skill will undoubtedly be exploited by coach JJ Redick. The X's and O's won't matter if Ayton doesn't show up to play every night, however. Ayton presumably agreed to the buyout of his contract because he wanted to change the narrative of his career. This is his chance. He will have a playmaker in Doncic, a team with championship aspirations in the Lakers. Perhaps most important, he will have a teacher in James.

Rockets' New Depth After Signing Clint Capela And Dorian Finney-Smith In Free Agency

Rockets' New Depth After Signing Clint Capela And Dorian Finney-Smith In Free Agency originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Rockets hit the ground running in the free agency market as they acquired Dorian Finney-Smith and former Rocket Clint Capela within the first few hours of free agency. Dorian Finney-Smith signed a four-year, $53 million deal with the Rockets, and Capela signed a three-year, $21 million deal. These are the new additions to the frontcourt that was already logjammed with young and veteran talent like Kevin Durant, Tari Eason, Jabari Smith Jr., and more. Advertisement Following these acquisitions, let's take a look at the roster depth of the Rockets for each position (in order of preference for the position). Point Guards (PG): Fred VanVleet, Reed Sheppard, Aaron Holiday Shooting Guards (SG): Amen Thompson, Cam Whitmore Small Forwards (SF): Kevin Durant, Tari Eason, Dorian Finney-Smith, Nate Williams Power Forwards (PF): Jabari Smith Jr., Jae'Sean Tate, Jeff Green Centers (C): Alperen Sengun, Steven Adams, Clint Capela, Jock Landale If the Rockets can figure out a way to retain Cam Whitmore on this team, this roster depth makes them look nearly destined for a championship within the next two seasons. But according to Yossi Gozlan, the NBA salary cap analyst, financial restrictions will force them to most likely waive Jock Landale and trade Whitmore. Are The Rockets Still Title Contenders Without Whitmore? Yes, the Rockets are still considered one of the frontrunners from the Western Conference to make a run for the NBA championship in the 2025-26 season. Whitmore was not crucial to the team last season, but he is a valuable young asset for the team with tremendous upside and potential to grow. Advertisement Averaging just 16 minutes per game in the 2024-25 regular season, he averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 44.4% from the field and 35.5%. Analysts across the country were shocked to see him fall to the 20th pick when the Rockets drafted him. They should look for a way to retain him on the team if possible, like waiving Landale and Nate Williams or trading Jeff Green and Aaron Holiday instead. But the latter is unlikely since they both signed a one-year veteran minimum contract with the team only a few days ago.
