Karan Johar REACTS To Dharmendra And Shabana Azmi's Kiss Scene In Rocky Aur Rani: 'One Day…'

News182 days ago
Karan Johar reflects on Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani two years after release, ranking it alongside his classics and teasing a possible spin-off.
It's been two years since Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani hit cinemas, but the film is still sparking conversations – and not just for its chart-topping songs or Ranveer-Alia chemistry. As the anniversary rolled around, Karan Johar reflected on the rom-com's place in his career, the buzz around its veteran love story, and the emotional memories tied to his earlier directorial hits.
In a chat with The Times of India, the filmmaker looked back at the 2023 box office hit, which marked his return to the director's chair after a long seven-year break. The film, packed with vibrant family drama, culture clashes, and a surprising moment between two screen legends, clearly holds a special place in his heart.
Asked whether Rocky Aur Rani sits alongside his most beloved works, Karan didn't hold back.
'It is right up there with My Name Is Khan and, of course, my first directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which remains special as it brought a smile to my father's (the eminent producer Yash Johar) face," he said. 'Our production house was suffering huge deficits when I made Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. It brought huge financial respite to my dad."
While the film was led by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's lively pairing – he played a loud, full-hearted Punjabi; she was the sharp Bengali journalist – it was another duo that caught the internet's eye. A kiss shared by Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi on screen stirred reactions across social media, becoming one of the most talked-about scenes in the film.
Reacting to the unexpected chatter, Karan said, 'There is a separate love story there. I may one day make a film on their love story in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani."
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani follows the love story of Rocky, a loud and fun-loving Punjabi guy, and Rani, a smart and confident Bengali journalist. Though they come from very different backgrounds, they fall in love. Before getting married, they decide to switch homes and spend time living with each other's families to understand their cultures better. This leads to lots of drama, funny moments, and emotional ups and downs, as both families struggle with their differences.

Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison To Team Up For The Social Network Sequel? What We Know

Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White may star in The Social Network II, written by Aaron Sorkin, focusing on Facebook's impact. Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White are reportedly being eyed for the long-rumoured sequel to The Social Network. Insiders close to the film's writer, Aaron Sorkin have told Deadline he has the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star, 26, and The Bear actor, 34, in mind for the leading roles in The Social Network II. However, it's still early days and no formal offers have been made, as the team are still figuring out the budget and fine-tuning the script, per the outlet. The Academy Award winning filmmaker is said to have already written a screenplay for a sequel to his 2010 blockbuster, which starred Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and told the story of the social media platform's creation. As recently reported by Deadline, Sorkin is set to direct the follow-up, which comes 15 years after David Fincher was at the helm for the original. According to the outlet, sources say the upcoming movie will not be a straight sequel, but instead a 'follow-up to the original movie" which explored the platform's origins. It's said the screenplay delves into the story behind the Wall Street Journal's Facebook Files, which were a series of October 2021 articles by Jeff Horowitz. The pieces sought to expose Facebook's inner workings, and the harms caused by them. The focus won't all be on the suggestion that Facebook played a role in the January 6, 2020 attack on the US Capitol. It will also delve into the impact the site has on teenagers and preteens, as well as violence, and its wider effect on countries around the world. Back in 2021, Sorkin opened up on his plans for a sequel, insisting 'what has been going on with Facebook these last few years is a story very much worth telling." At the time, he suggested a sequel relied on Fincher agreeing to return to helm the follow-up. Last year, he insisted he 'blamed Facebook" for the US Capitol attack, but teased The Town podcast listeners that they would 'need to buy a movie ticket" to find out why. He did reveal that he'd started writing a sequel, and offered a hint about what direction that was taking. He said, 'Facebook has been, among other things, tuning its algorithm to promote the most divisive material possible. Because that is what will increase engagement. That is what will get you to — what they call inside the hallways of Facebook — 'the infinite scroll'… There's supposed to be a constant tension at Facebook between growth and integrity. There isn't. It's just growth." It's not yet known if Eisenberg will return as Zuckerberg. First Published: July 31, 2025, 21:12 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Priyanka Chopra Recalls 'Ram Leela' Song, Says Bhansali's Offer Was ‘Complicated'

Priyanka Chopra reveals why doing Ram Chahe Leela in Ram Leela was a 'complicated decision' and how Sanjay Leela Bhansali still remains a dear friend. Priyanka Chopra is taking fans down memory lane as she revisits her electrifying performance in Ram Chahe Leela from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013). Sharing a clip from the iconic dance number on Instagram, Priyanka confessed that doing the song wasn't an easy decision. 'When Sanjay Sir came to me with this song, it was a complicated decision, but him as a filmmaker has always inspired me," Priyanka wrote. 'His creative mind, his nostalgic stories usually over incredible food, the conversations of art and music to dance… the beauty of the yesteryears but also what the future holds. And then he played the song.. and I knew I was her." She went on to credit the team behind the shoot. 'Under Sanjay sir's guidance, Ravi Varman's cinematography shone, and Vishnu Deva was magic! Him and I would rehearse during lunch breaks every day to perfect the dance sequences. This brings back such great memories," she added. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Priyanka (@priyankachopra) In a past interview with Lehren Retro, Priyanka's mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra, had also revealed why her daughter was only seen in the special song and not the lead role, which ultimately went to Deepika Padukone. 'She went to his office… When she came back, she said, 'I am only doing a song in Ram Leela.' I asked her what happened. She said, 'I think that's better.' They might have had some lovely discussions that she agreed for something like this because they are still friends," Dr Chopra had shared. Dr Chopra also reflected on how demanding it was for Priyanka to play Kashibai in Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. 'Kashibai was very hard because it was all about the expressions… Sanjay Bhansali is not an easy director. To keep him pleased with the performance was the target," she added. Meanwhile, fans eagerly await Priyanka's return to Indian cinema with SS Rajamouli's next directorial, tentatively titled SSMB29, co-starring Mahesh Babu. The collaboration has already generated significant buzz and marks her full-fledged comeback in a homegrown production. SheShakti 2025: Renuka Shahane, Shriya Pilgaonkar Open Up On Pay Parity, Admit 'It Exist'

Renuka Shahane and Shriya Pilgaonkar attended CNN-News18's SheShakti Mumbai edition on Thursday, when they opened up about pay parity in the film industry. The two actresses admitted that even though it has reduced now, the difference still exists. 'I was a character actor in films. That, in any case, is a huge parity between character actors and main actors. You must accept hierarchy with grace. You have to fight for what you think you are worth," Renuka said. However, the veteran actress also explained that pay parity is less in the television world. She explained that it is simply because television is ruled by female actors. Shriya Pilgaonkar also agreed with Renuka and added, 'A lot has changed for the better. You have seen love stories of women who are in a certain age bracket. The idea that there is a certain age bracket for an actor is also changing. Some battles like pay parity very much exist." During the interaction, Shriya also spoke about how films and OTT shows are evolving for the better. 'A lot has changed for the better. You have seen love stories of women who are in a certain age bracket. The idea that there is a certain age bracket for an actor is also changing. Some battles like pay parity very much exist," quoted the Mandala Murders actor.
