Fundraiser for family of boy, 7, who died in Co. Sligo tragedy raises more than €22,000
Alan Singh, 7, was rescued from the water at Lissadell Beach on Saturday afternoon and airlifted to Sligo University Hospital, where he sadly passed away.
The St John's National School pupil is due to be laid to rest tomorrow.
A GoFundMe appeal has been set up to support the family, who run a restaurant in Ballisodare.
"As a community we are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Alan Singh following a tragedy at Lissadell," read the appeal.
"Our thoughts are with his parents IqbalJeet (Indie) and Andrea (Dzurikova), his sister Aisha, grandparents, family, friends and all his classmates at St John's National School, Ballisodare."
It added: "All donations will go directly towards covering expenses and helping his family through this incredibly difficult time." 'Always smiling'
In a tribute this week, the Principal of St John's National School described Alan as 'a treasured member of our Second Class'.
"Alan was a much-loved pupil — always smiling, warm and full of kindness," said Mary Curley.
"He was friendly, hardworking and a talented young artist who brought joy and creativity to our classrooms.
"His gentle nature and positive spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him."
Alan's funeral will take place tomorrow at the Church of the Assumption in Collooney, with burial afterwards in Sligo Cemetery.

Wellwishers have raised more than £15,000 (pounds) for the families of victims involved in a fatal school-bus crash in Somerset, UK, earlier this week. The devastated family of a 23-year-old Wicklow man are at his bedside in hospital waiting to say their final goodbyes as he remains on a ventilator, having suffered cardiac arrest on Saturday, which lead to a catastrophic brain injury. Kian O'Neill is the son of Joanna and George and the beloved sibling of Macy, Georgie, Lily and James. He suffered cardiac arrest in the early hours of Saturday morning and was due to remain on a ventilator until Tuesday to allow all his friends and family to say goodbye. Fundraiser launched to return belongings of young Irishman who drowned in Canada
The family of a young Irish man who tragically died in a drowning incident in Canada last month have launched a fundraiser in a bid to bring his personal belongings back home to Ireland. Stuart Doonan, from Drumquin in Co Tyrone, sadly lost his life on Friday, June 13, after getting into difficulty in water close to where he was living in Montreal. The 30-year-old's death sent shockwaves through his hometown and beyond, with his family paying heartbreaking tribute to the popular young man. 'We are devastated about the circumstances surrounding his passing as he tragically drowned near his accommodation in Montreal,' his sister said. 'Stuart was full of life and full of love, the heart and soul of our family and he will be sorely missed.' Stuart's family are arranging to bring his body home with the help of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust so that he may be buried in his native Tyrone, with a funeral service due to be held at Drumquin Presbyterian Church on Tuesday (July 15). The family have now set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of bringing Stuart's personal belongings back to Ireland . The fundraiser is being organised by Stuart's sister Stacey, who posted a message on the GoFundMe page which read: "Our son/brother Stuart Doonan sadly passed away in Montreal, Canada, June 2025. "We are grateful for all the invaluable help and support we are receiving in getting Stuart home from the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, we now face the challenge of bringing his belongings home. "We have to navigate the process of getting his personal belongings home as he lived in Montreal for four years. We would appreciate any support in doing this. "Excess funds will be going to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (Newry) who have and continue to be a great support to the family."
