Red Sox make decision on trading Jarren Duran as Padres make offer
The Jarren Duran trade rumors have been loud, but they haven't led to anything yet. The San Diego Padres want the Boston Red Sox star outfielder. But will any deal get done? USA Today's Bob Nightengale says no. "The Boston Red Sox have no plans to trade outfielder Jarren Duran at the deadline, rejecting the San Diego Padres' offers, and more likely to move him this winter," Nightengale wrote on Sunday. During Saturday night's Fox broadcast, insider Ken Rosenthal said the Padres had made an offer of multiple prospects and expiring pitcher contract Dylan Cease to Boston that had been rejected. MORE: Emmanuel Clase just had one of the weirdest days in MLB history It's hard to imagine a much better offer being made, and so it seems like the Red Sox may want to see what other teams are willing to offer during the offseason. There's a bit of an outfield logjam in Boston, but Duran is still an exceptionally talented player. Besides, the Red Sox have some good vibes rolling right now, and it may not be the time to mess with that as they attempt to make a playoff push. Duran, it seems, is staying put to try and help in a late-season surge. Dolphins agree to reported reworked deal with Minkah Fitzpatrick
Recently-acquired Miami safety Minkah Fitzpatrick secured a revised contract from the Dolphins. A day after reports surfaced that Fitzpatrick had enlisted the services of popular agent Drew Rosenhaus, the 28-year-old safety agreed to a revised contract with Miami that adds a $16.2 million signing bonus to his deal according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Fitzpatrick previously had no guaranteed money left on what is currently a two-year contract. Per Schefter, no additional years were added to his deal, but that appears to be an ongoing discussion between Fitzpatrick's camp and the Dolphins. "We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multi year extension," Rosenhaus told Schefter and ESPN. Rosenhaus also represents Miami defensive tackle Zach Sieler, who is likewise seeking a new deal. The popular agent also represented former Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the revised contract moves up $2 million to Fitzpatrick this year, who is now due $17.5 million in 2025 and $15.6 million in 2026. It's a move that clears about $11 million in cap space for the Dolphins. Fitzpatrick is a three-time first-team All-Pro and a five-time Pro Bowler. In 2022, Fitzpatrick led the NFL in interceptions with six. During the 2019-22 seasons in Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick registered 17 interceptions, 38 passes defended and 356 tackles. In 27 starts across the past two seasons, Fitzpatrick has recorded just the lone interception and seven passes defended. But, there is hope that Fitzpatrick can return in Miami to the form that saw him morph into the league's top safety during his time in Pittsburgh. League executives, coaches and scouts are still bullish on Fitzpatrick and indicated as much in an anonymous survey that ranked the NFL's top safeties this offseason.

Report: New York Mets Inquired on Trade for Star Pitcher, Odds of Deal
The New York Mets are buyers going into the MLB trade deadline, seeking reinforcements that could help them make a deep run in October. While the outfield and bullpen are more pressing needs, New York has reportedly gotten involved in a pursuit of an All-Star starting pitcher. Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are among the teams that have recently 'checked in' on a trade for Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara. While New York wants to add a playoff-caliber starter, it reportedly views an addition as a 'tough get' based on the high asking prices sellers have set. Related: Sandy Alcantara stats (): 6.66 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 77-39 K-BB, .270/.333/.431 triple-slash line allowed in 104 innings pitched Acquiring Alcantara could prove quite complicated. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported this week that the asking price for starting pitchers is extremely high, especially front-line starters. While Alcantara is in the midst of a career-worst season, Miami still is seeking a premium return for the former NL Cy Young Award winner. The 29-year-old at least showed flashes of his old self in his last start on July 27, holding the San Diego Padres lineup to four hits with one unearned run over seven innings of work. Even with that promising start, some clubs reportedly believe it could take a full offseason to get the 6-foot-5 righty back on track. Related: Sandy Alcantara contract (): $17.3 million salary in 2025, $17.3M salary in 2026, $21 million club option for 2027 The limited number of front-line starters available at the MLB trade deadline provides Miami with leverage in negotiations, especially given the high number of interested suitors. New York also isn't quite as desperate for starting pitching as it once was, with several of its starters now getting healthy. Ultimately, the cost of acquiring Alcantara and the risk of him not returning to his elite form could make a deal with the Mets unlikely. While the All-Star pitcher likely won't land in New York, the club could still add a starter by the July 31 trade deadline.
