Pioli tells Fiorentina to get inspiration from Ronaldo and sends message to Allegri
Pioli has returned to the Stadio Franchi for his second stint as a coach and was unveiled at a press conference on Wednesday.
Pioli explains why he returned to Fiorentina
'The experiences I've had so far have brought me to the highest point of my career,' Pioli said via TMW.
'I know there are many expectations here, but I already have a great feeling because I've found a lot of human depth in addition to one of the most beautiful training centres I've ever seen. I feel ready to do an outstanding job.'
Pioli was the Fiorentina coach when Davide Astori tragically died in his sleep on March 4, 2018, aged 31, before an away Serie A match against Udinese.
Fiorentina still remember their former captain before each home match by announcing their ex-No.13 in their starting XI.
'Obviously, he had a significant impact on my professional and personal life,' said Pioli.
'I still feel him, and that will never change. If we manage to take the same step forward as a team, we can even win the Scudetto.'
Pioli had reached an agreement with Fiorentina at the beginning of June, but it took him over a month to terminate his contract with Al-Hilal, where he had coached Cristiano Ronaldo.
'I've always wanted to come back. One phone call was enough. It was a month of anxiety, but still very positive,' Pioli said.
Pioli: coaching Cristiano Ronaldo 'an honour
'It was an honour to coach him [Cristiano Ronaldo]. He's much more than a champion,' he continued.
'You have no idea what lies behind his figure. I shared his management with him. He's an incredible professional, and he's obsessed with playing and scoring goals. He lives each day to be ready for the next game. That's the kind of determination we need to have.'
Pioli will coach Moise Kean in the 2025-26 season. The Italian striker was the second-best Serie A goal scorer in 2024-25, and his €52m release clause expired yesterday, July 15, 2025.
'I've spoken with Moise during this period, but I don't know whether I had an impact on his decision to stay. He's very grateful to Florence. I've seen him calm and eager to work these days. He's a very strong player,' he said.
Edin Dzeko has moved to the Franchi, while Albert Gudmundsson has made his loan move permanent. Can Fiorentina use all three of their stars simultaneously?
'We won't always be the same, but the idea is to get them playing all together,' Pioli replied.
'Much will depend on their ability to work together. I'll repeat it, the more quality players we have, the more chances we have to win.
'We should not focus on just one role or position. Gudmundsson a player with quality, great intelligence and desire to make an impact. He offers many solutions in attack, and I count on him. Fazzini has similar traits. What matters is having players with quality, pace and unpredictability. Unpredictability is the key to beating opponents.'
Pioli confirmed that Luca Ranieri would be Fiorentina's captain next season and seemed confident that the Tuscans would compete for a spot in the top four next season.
'It won't be Pioli against Allegri or Conte. It will be Fiorentina against Napoli, Milan and others,' he said.
'We have fire inside. I could have stayed where I was and been one of the ten highest-paid coaches in the world. If Fiorentina wants to be top, we need to prove it. Allegri didn't put us among the Champions League contenders. I've already written that on the board.'
Pioli has signed a long-term contract at the Stadio Franchi, which will run until June 2028.

Ajax new boy Oscar Gloukh welcomes the pressure: 'It gives me goosebumps, I can't wait for the first match'
Oscar Gloukh recently gave his first Ajax interview. The Israeli spoke to the club's media about the type of player he is and had particular praise for the infamous 2018/19 team. The 21-year-old playmaker was officially presented at Ajax on Friday evening, and spoke plainly about his on-field traits. 'I love dribbling, passing, scoring, and providing assists,' were the first words of the newest signing, who didn't hesitate for a moment when Ajax announced their interest. 'I wanted to go straight away because I want to play for teams that are going for titles.' Apparently, Ajax already had their eye on Gloukh during his time at Maccabi Tel Aviv. 'We had discussions back then, and I really wanted to go. Ultimately, I left for Salzburg. But now I'm here, and I feel great. This club is huge.' In his teenage years, Gloukh often watched Ajax, he says. The 2018/19 season, in which they reached the Champions League semifinals, is especially etched in memory. 'Dusan Tadic was one of my favourite players. He was a real leader. I also thought Frenkie de Jong was a great player. They made history back then.' In Amsterdam, the new number 10 is following in the footsteps of Tadic. He realises that comes with pressure. 'I know Dennis Bergkamp played with that number too. There's a lot of pressure on me to perform. But I love it. It gives me goosebumps. I can't wait for the first match.' GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield

Three touching words from Victor Osimhen to Napoli after signing with Galatasaray
Big gratitude from Nigerian to southern Italian city. Sercan Ozkurnazli - Getty Images The Nigerian striker, who enjoyed a distinguished career at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona, will certainly never forget those memorable nights, directly contributing to the 2022-23 Scudetto, and then bringing joy to the city alongside the distinguished Georgian Khvicha Kvarastikhela, who is currently shining with Paris Saint-Germain. The Italian club announced the transfer of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray on a permanent transfer after a season on loan in Turkey with the same team. It seems that he chose the Turkish giants because he was accustomed to the shelter there in Istanbul and liked the financial offer and everything was suitable for him. It is worth noting that the Nigerian striker received great interest from Saudi clubs, led by Al-Hilal, and English clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United in particular. What is the message submitted by the Nigerian to the Italian club? The message from the Super Eagle was very formal and consisted of only three words in the Italian language spoken by the people of the city, saying: "Grazie per tutto" which in English means "thank you for everything" expressing the immense gratitude he has for the team's fans and the club in general. Osimhen played 133 matches with the Italian team, scoring 76 goals and 18 assists.

Benjamin Sesko chooses between Newcastle United and Man United
Benjamin Sesko has chosen his next club, according to a reliable Slovenian newspaper. A two-way battle It has been widely reported that both Newcastle United and Manchester United were going head-to-head to sign the RB Leipzig striker, with the player weighing up the chance to play in the Champions League offered by the Magpies against the dream of playing for one of the world's most renowned clubs in United. Sesko signed a new deal with RB that kept him at the club until 2029, but similar to Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting, 'When he signed that new contract last year, it came with the understanding that if an elite club — by his definition — offered in the region of €80million-€90million (£69m to £78m; $92m to $103m), Leipzig would allow him to leave.' (Source: The Athletic). It is understood that Newcastle have already made it clear to the German club that they will reach that amount, while United are in talks and sending out strong signals that they, too, can make a satisfactory offer. But the question has remained: which club will the Slovenian choose? Inside sources make huge claim Now, according to a credible leading daily newspaper in Sesko's home country, 'it's clear' that Sesko is on the move. 'After a months-long transfer saga, the Slovenian football star has made a decision about where he will continue his sporting career,' the outlet says. But it is bad news for United. 'According to well-informed sources, he will continue his career with Newcastle United.' If the outlet proves to be correct, it leaves INEOS with egg on their faces yet again, having been beaten to Liam Delap by Chelsea, Viktor Gyokeres by Arsenal and Hugo Ekitike by Liverpool. Whether United will remain in the market for a striker remains to be seen. They have shown interest in Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins but the Midlands club have shown no interest in selling. United are reluctant to make the kind of mammoth offer that would be necessary to change their minds. Featured image Maja Hitij via Getty Images online polls Get paid to write about United!
