Notre Dame dual-sport signee Brandon Logan has won a high school Gold Glove
Notre Dame dual-sport signee Brandon Logan is having quite the summer, one that is showing how impressive of an athlete he is.
The 6-foot and 185-pound in-state star will play both baseball and football for the Irish, and at the current moment he's participating in the MLB Draft Combine. Logan's efforts on the diamond are impressive, and on Wednesday Rawlings Baseball announced that he was one of nine high school players nationally that won a Gold Glove.
Logan roamed the outfield for his Fort Wayne Snider team this spring, using his speed and instincts to be one of the best defenders in the nation. There is potential that he could get drafted next month, and then he'd have a big decision on his hands.
While Logan could play both sports for Notre Dame, the opportunity to start his professional career might be too hard to pass up if drafted high enough. We will soon know if that is something he'll have to consider, but at the current moment, the Irish are getting a star at safety and a gold glover at centerfield.

Elite Wide Receiver Kaydon Finley Commits To Notre Dame

Elite Wide Receiver Kaydon Finley Commits To Notre Dame originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Notre Dame has landed one of its most important commitments in the 2026 cycle with Texas wide receiver Kaydon Finley pledging to the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame beat out Texas and Texas A&M among many others to land this Aledo (Texas) High School standout. Advertisement Finley has been a priority target for Notre Dame throughout the 2026 recruiting cycle. Landing a top receiver in the 2026 class was incredibly important for Notre Dame, who identified Finley as a must-get player very early on. Landing him has been a battle against Texas, but in the end receivers coach Mike Brown and the Irish staff got the job done. Listed at 6-1 and 200 pounds, Finley has the size to play either outside or the slot. He's a strong athlete that can make plays after the catch and he has enough speed to make plays down the field. Finley is an advanced route runner with an excellent feel for the game and his ball skills are top notch. He could thrive in the slot in a role similar to Jaden Greathouse, but I like how his route running, ball skills and athletic talent project outside even more. He plays all over the field for Aledo, dominating from the inside and outside. That versatility gives Finley a chance to push for playing time at all three receiver positions in the Irish offense. Join the Notre Dame Champions Lounge for the latest intel and analysis of the Fighting Irish! As a junior, Finley was dominant for an Aledo squad that went 12-2 and advanced to the state semifinals. Finley finished his junior season with 81 catches for 1,432 yards (17.7 yards per catch) and 21 touchdowns. He was outstanding in the postseason, racking up 25 catches for 429 yards (17.2 YPC) and seven touchdowns. Finley finished his junior season with nine games of 100 receiving yards or more and he had seven games with multiple touchdown receptions. Advertisement Finley is ranked as a Top 100 recruit on the Irish Breakdown board and he earned a 4.5-star upside grade (Top 75 caliber recruit). He is ranked as the nation's No. 93 overall player by Rivals. The Aledo standout earned offers from the Irish, Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Auburn, Ole Miss, Missouri, Louisville, TCU, UCLA, Arkansas, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Colorado, Stanford and California. Finley is the 23rd player to commit to Notre Dame. He joins Florida quarterback Noah Grubbs, Texas running backs Javian Osborne, Georgia running back Jonaz Walton, Faison and Frazier at wide receiver, Kansas tight end Ian Premer, Ohio tight end Preston Fryzel, Pennsylvania offensive linemen Tyler Merrill and Grayson McKeogh, Michigan offensive linemen Ben Nichols, Gregory Patrick and Sullivan Garvin, Connecticut offensive lineman Charlie Thom, North Carolina ends Ebenezer Ewetade and Rodney Dunham, Texas defensive tackle Tiki Hola, North Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., Ohio linebacker Jakobe Clapper, Pennsylvania defensive back Joey O'Brien Florida cornerback Ayden Pouncey, Maryland cornerback Khary Adams and Tennessee cornerback Chaston Smith. Notre Dame passes USC to rank as No. 2 recruiting class in country after 4-star football commitment

Notre Dame is recruiting as well as anyone in the country. On Friday, the Fighting Irish earned a commitment from 4-star wide receiver Jaydon Finley. And with that, they moved ahead of rival USC in the national recruiting rankings, according to On3 Sports. Advertisement In fact, Notre Dame is No. 2 in the entire country for the Class of 2026. Only Georgia holds a slight edge. MORE: Ohio State, Michigan were supposed to drop to Division III football Notre Dame is close to Georgia despite having four fewer commits in the class right now than the Bulldogs. Each has one 5-star, with Notre Dame two behind apiece in 4-stars (16 to 14) and 3-stars (10 to 8) The Fighting Irish beat out USC by having one 5-star to zero, and by having a higher average class ranking. On3 also reports NIL data, and Notre Dame has dished out about $55,000 less per recruit than On3 says No. 3 USC and No. 5 Alabama have. Advertisement The Fighting Irish certainly have a pedigree and mystique about them. They also just played in the national title game and have an enthusiastic young coach, Marcus Freeman. All of that seems to be working in their favor. MORE: Oklahoma's John Mateer predicted for amazing Heisman honor

Phillies' defensive star announces retirement after a decade in MLB

Two separate stints in Philadelphia earned Freddy Galvis recognition as a stellar shortstop defender. And with plenty of MLB action in between, he was a steady veteran for a long time. On Friday, Galvis announced his retirement in an Instagram post. Advertisement He came to the Philadelphia organization in 2006 as an international signee out of Venezuela. He climbed the ladder to make his MLB debut in 2012 at the age of 22. He would play seven seasons total for the Phillies, and he'd also spend time with the Reds, Padres, Blue Jays and Orioles. MORE: 3 Cubs have had 3-HR games vs. Cardinals, and all 3 were on 4th of July Galvis wasn't always a great hitter, although he had a 20 homer season in 2016 for the Phillies and a 23 homer season for the Blue Jays/Reds in 2019. His glove was what allowed him to stick around. He had positives in Defensive Runs Saved, Ultimate Zone Rating and Outs Above Average for his career, and he was a Gold Glove finalist three consecutive years from 2016-2018. Advertisement Galvis left MLB following the 2021 season to play in Japan, then in Mexico, and then in the Venezuelan Winter League. And now, his cleats and that wonderful glove have been hung up for good. MORE MLB NEWS:
