CBFC asks for PM Modi quote in Sitaare Zameen Par, demands edits before certifying Aamir Khan's film — what was removed?

Time of India19-06-2025

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared Sitaare Zameen Par for release, but only after suggesting several modifications to the original cut. While the film received a U/A 13+ certificate, the certification process involved key requests from the Revising Committee, including the inclusion of a quote by Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately following the film's opening disclaimer.
CBFC revising committee suggested key changes
The CBFC initially referred the film to its Examining Committee, which suggested a few cuts. However, actor-producer Aamir Khan reportedly did not agree with the proposed edits. The matter was then taken to the Revising Committee, led by theatre personality and academic Waman Kendre, for further review.
As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the Revising Committee made several suggestions after viewing the film. This included adding a quote by Prime Minister Modi after the disclaimer, and changes to specific references and visuals in the film.
Dialogue and visual adjustments implemented
According to the same report, the Revising Committee recommended the replacement of the term 'Michael Jackson' with 'Lovebirds' and 'Business Woman' with 'Business Person.' In addition, the filmmakers were asked to remove a particular visual that featured the word 'kamal.' These changes were implemented, following which the CBFC granted the final clearance.
The film is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by RS Prasanna. With the certificate now in place, the film is scheduled for theatrical release on Friday, June 20.
Box office and ticket sales ahead of release
Despite the earlier uncertainty over certification, Sitaare Zameen Par has generated strong interest among moviegoers. According to data from trade website Sacnilk, the film has already recorded advance bookings worth ₹1.03 crore across India, excluding block seats. It has sold over 39,000 tickets for its opening day.
Also featuring Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par is described as the spiritual successor to the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which marked Aamir Khan's debut as a director. After revisions suggested by the CBFC, Sitaare Zameen Par is now set for release with all changes made and strong advance sales.

Aamir Khan reveals he got invitation from underworld to attend Dubai party in '90s: ‘I said I won't go, unless you take me forcibly'

It's no secret that the underworld held significant influence over the Hindi film industry during the 1980s and 1990s. Right around that time, in the late 1980s, Aamir Khan had his breakthrough in Bollywood as the lead in cousin Mansoor Khan's 1988 directorial debut Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. As he became a renowned star, like many others of that time, he received an invitation in the late 1990s from the underworld to attend a party organized by them in the Middle East. 'I'd said no to the invite to attend their party in the Middle East, probably Dubai. Some people from the underworld had visited me to invite me to the party,' said Aamir Khan, not revealing if they were hired by notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim. 'I don't take names, even of people from my industry. That's my nature,' added Aamir. In the interview with The Lallantop, Aamir Khan continued, 'They tried a lot. They offered me money and offered to get any work done of my choosing. I still refused to come. They quickly changed their tone and said I'd have to come now because my presence had already been announced, and it was a prestige issue.' 'That was our last meeting. I said, 'You've been meeting for a month and I've been telling you right from the start that I wouldn't come. You're very powerful so you can bash me up, hit me on the head, tie my hands and legs, and take me forcibly wherever you want, but I wouldn't come on my own.' So they stopped contacting me after that,' recalled Aamir. Aamir Khan admitted he was very scared at that time, not only for him, but more so for his family. 'I had two small kids then. My parents were very concerned. They said, 'What are you doing? They're very dangerous.' So I had said only one thing to them then, 'I want to live my life the way I want. I don't want to go there,'' said Aamir. 'I was more concerned for the ones close to me,' added Aamir. He had two kids then — Ira Khan and Junaid Khan — from his then-wife Reena Dutta. Aamir had tied the knot with Reena in 1986 and they'd become parents to Junaid in 1993 and Ira in 1997. Aamir and Reena got divorced in 2002. The film was being produced by Gulshan's son Bhushan Kumar, the current head of T-Series, which was founded by his late father. The film was being helmed by Subhash Kapoor. After Aamir exited the project, Akshay Kumar was being considered for the lead role. However, there's no further update on the film yet.

Aamir Khan may be Bollywood's thinking man's superstar, but even he wasn't immune to emotional breakdown. In a recent interview shared by The Lallantop, Aamir confessed he spiralled into self-destruction after his divorce from Reena Dutta in 2002—his first wife and the woman he married in secret in 1986. 'When Reena and I separated, that evening I finished an entire bottle of alcohol, and for the next 1.5 years I drank every day,' Aamir said. 'I never slept. Main behosh ho jaata tha daaru peeke. I was trying to kill myself.' What pushed Aamir to the edge? During this period, Aamir completely withdrew from work and people. The irony hit when he was named Man of the Year in the same year Lagaan released. 'I found it very ironical,' he said—celebrated by the world, but crumbling in private. How did he cope with grief and healing? This wasn't the first time Aamir reflected on that turbulent chapter. Speaking to Instant Bollywood earlier, he had said, 'When Reena and I broke, I was in mourning for almost 2–3 years. I wasn't working or listening to scripts… I drank a lot. You will be shocked to know that I was a teetotaler.' What helped him eventually was acceptance: 'Accept that what was once yours is not there now. Also accept how good it was for you when it was there, and how much you will miss it when it isn't.' Has Aamir Khan found peace again in love? Aamir went on to marry filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, but they too separated in 2021 after nearly 16 years of marriage. Now, at 60, Aamir has introduced a new chapter—Gauri Spratt. In a recent event, he presented her publicly and shared that his family has welcomed her warmly. From battling inner demons to finding love again, Aamir Khan's emotional candour reveals a man unafraid to show his flaws, proving that even perfectionists bleed.
