The Portuguese forward died in a crash near Zamora, in northwestern Spain, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.
Jota signed for Liverpool in September 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of more than £40 million.

Eskom boosts cybersecurity after breach exposed flaws in prepaid token system
State power utility Eskom says it has taken several steps to strengthen its systems against potential threats related to the generation of fraudulent prepaid tokens. In December 2024, the power utility disclosed, as part of its full-year 2024 financial results, a forensic report detailing the breach of its Online Vending System (OVS). 'The system was exploited to generate and distribute fraudulent prepaid electricity tokens, revealing critical vulnerabilities in both the physical and cybersecurity components of the utility's prepaid electricity infrastructure. 'In response, Eskom undertook a comprehensive review and intervention strategy aimed at mitigating these vulnerabilities and restoring system integrity,' Eskom said in a statement. Eskom Chief Technology and Information Officer Len De Villiers says the power utility has 'successfully strengthened the protection of its current systems against potential threats'. 'All system enhancements are managed through a robust change management process that spans all divisions, ensuring consistent oversight and control. These measures are part of Eskom's ongoing commitment to safeguarding operations and addressing identified vulnerabilities,' De Villiers says. The latest key actions implemented include: Internal controls to deal with electricity theft have been implemented Measures to safeguard the system by reinforcing physical infrastructure and limiting both physical and digital access Enhanced monitoring capabilities to ensure transparency and timely reporting Ongoing collaboration with law enforcement agencies to support investigations and ensure accountability. As part of this process, internal employees who have been implicated have been placed on precautionary suspension pending further review Augmented in-house capabilities, supported by an external information technology firm tasked to better manage risks and safeguard operations Co-ordinated system upgrades through a structured change management process Regular reporting to the Eskom Board, which has maintained oversight throughout the remediation process Accelerated acquisition of a new, secure vending system, designed to replace the current OVS and prevent future incidents. Eskom Group Chief Executive Dan Marokane said: 'We are fully aware of the challenges that have emerged within the OVS environment, and we have taken clear steps to address them. 'Our focus is on restoring trust, strengthening our systems, and ensuring that our customers can rely on a secure and efficient service. This is not just a technical fix, it is part of a broader commitment to transparency, operational excellence and accountability.' Tight security, road closures ahead of Hollywoodbets Durban July
The police and other law enforcement agencies will be out in full force this weekend to ensure safety at the Hollywoodbets Durban July, set to take place at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday. The Witness reports that extensive security planning between the police, event organisers and various private and public sector stakeholders has been underway for weeks to ensure the event runs smoothly. Law enforcement officials will be deployed in and around the racecourse and throughout the city to manage crowds, regulate traffic and maintain public order. 'A proactive approach has been adopted, one that has ensured previous events were successful,' says police spokesperson Captain Carmen Rhynes. Police will monitor activity closely to ensure peace and stability in and around the venue. Public urged to remain vigilant Spectators and horse racing fans are reminded to be alert and responsible. Attendees are encouraged to leave valuables at home or keep them secured at all times, as criminals may mingle with crowds. Anyone drinking alcohol is urged to avoid driving, and to use public transport or be dropped off and collected. 'Those who are found drinking and driving will be arrested,' says Rhynes. Prohibited items All attendees will be searched before entering the venue. The following items will not be permitted: Sharp instruments (for example, knives) Firearms Bottles Alcohol Parking and access Parking inside the Greyville Golf Course is available to those who have purchased pre-sold tickets. Access will be via DLI Avenue from the city side only. Motorists are urged to arrive early to avoid congestion. Attendees are reminded to: Lock all vehicle doors and windows Avoid leaving valuables in vehicles Never hand over keys to strangers or unofficial car guards Clear signage will be visible to guide those seeking parking. Traffic management and road closures High police visibility is expected on all roads surrounding the racecourse. Several road closures in the CBD will come into effect from tomorrow night until the end of the event on Saturday. Affected routes include: DLI Avenue Avondale Road Gladys Manzini Road Mitchell Crescent 5th and 6th Avenues Clarence Road Avondale and Haden Roads will be closed, with residents needing to access the area via alternative side roads.
