Over 300 undocumented Bangladeshi immigrants flown out of Delhi for deportation in last 3 days
Since November 15 last year, a senior officer at Delhi Police headquarters said, at least 1,230 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, and 70 foreigners who have overstayed, have been traced, detained, and handed over to the FRRO, which sent them to Agartala.
Sharing data of last two visits, an officer said 56 people – 25 children and 14 women from the Northwest district, 40 persons – 15 children and 11 women from the South district, 33 persons – 10 children and 11 women from the Southeast district, and 31 persons – eight children and 10 women from the Northeast district were detained and deported on Monday afternoon.
On Wednesday morning, 92 persons – 39 children and 22 women from the Outer district, 41 persons from the South district, and 28 from other districts — were picked up and handed over to the FRRO, who arranged a special flight for them from Hindon air base.
'We have provided them with basic facilities – food, along with water for the flight. We also sent a senior inspector rank along with them, and he, along with the officials of FRRO and intelligence agencies, deported them with the help of the Border Guarding Force,' an official said.
On June 8, an officer said, two groups of Bangladeshi nationals were waiting near the railway line, away from the Mangolpuri railway station, for the local train. 'The Outer district Police received information and apprehended 52 persons, including 40 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants,' the officer said.
On June 2, 160 persons were deported in a special flight. Of the 160, 43 persons from the Outer district, 26 persons were picked from the Northwest district, 15 from Rohini, 16 from the Shahdara district, and one from the Southwest district.
An officer said the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed them late last year to undertake a verification exercise to identify and detain illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and Rohingya.
Between November 15, 2024, and April 20 this year, around 220 illegal immigrants and 30 overstaying foreigners were caught by Delhi Police. They were handed over to the FRRO, taken by rail and road to eastern states, and sent to Bangladesh via land borders.
However, things changed after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 that killed 26. 'Now, the MHA is learnt to have asked Delhi Police to intensify detection and deport all illegal immigrants at the earliest. Several makeshift holding centres were built by Delhi Police on rent; they were told to coordinate with the FRRO, and drop the illegal migrants in a special plane to Agartala airport and West Bengal. After touching the detection figure of 160 illegal migrants, they requested the FRRO to arrange a special flight for them,' the officer said.

Gurugram's Missing Maids and Sanitation Workers Linked to Immigration Crackdown: Reports
The sudden disappearance of domestic workers and sanitation staff in parts of Gurugram has led to widespread concern and speculation among residents, particularly in areas like Ardee City. A viral Reddit post titled "Maid and Cook vanished suddenly from Gurgaon," highlighted the issue, with the user noting that maids, cooks, and garbage collectors had become unreachable and absent since Sunday. "Since Sunday there is a issue we all are facing in Ardee City, the maids and cooks are vanished suddenly and their cells are not reachable as well," the user wrote in the r/gurgaon subreddit. "The garbage collection guy is not coming though. What is the reason?' they added. As the post went viral, social media users speculated that the disappearance of domestic workers might be linked to the recent immigration drive targeting undocumented immigrants, particularly from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Several users shared their experience with maids and workers at their homes and offices who had stopped coming in the last few days. "They're detaining them, 90 per cent of them are illegals from Bangladesh. My maid is also one and she told us that this is happening and she's scared," said one user while another added: "They were illegal Bangladeshis. Now they are either getting deported or voluntarily leaving India." A third commented: "If you have lived in Gurgaon long enough, you would know that 90 per cent of Bengali Muslims are illegal immigrants." See the post here: Illegal immigration crackdown According to a Times of India report, the government initiated the drive to identify Bangladeshi and Rohingya living illegally in the city. The drive led to around 250 people being rounded up at four holding centres located in Badshahpur, Sector 10A, Sector 40, and Sector 1 in Manesar. As of the last update, barring 10, who will be deported, the remaining had been allowed to go by the authorities. The move has led to housing societies that depended on them for domestic chores, struggling for alternatives, as per a report in The Indian Express. 'We have identified 10 Bangladeshis (staying here illegally) from those kept at the holding centres. The deportation process is already underway for seven of them,' Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Dr Arpit Jain, told the publication. The drive to round up the illegals was initiated after a letter from the Union Home Ministry directed the state governments to prepare a standard operating procedure to deport, in sufficient numbers, Bangladeshis and Rohingya staying illegally. "If any illegal foreign national is found living in any state/district, he will be detained and kept in a Special Holding Centre…the police is conducting special search operations for illegal foreign nationals to maintain law and order and peace in district Gurugram, for which Special Holding Centres have been acquired vide letter… dated 18.07.2025 of this office,' read a July 22 order from District Magistrate.

10 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants detained by Gurugram Police, deportation underway
Gurugram Police on Saturday detained ten Bangladeshi nationals who were found to be living illegally in the city, according to police officials. Identification documents recovered from them confirmed their Bangladeshi nationality. Asaduddin Owaisi said that those being labelled as illegal immigrants are "the poorest of the poor," who are mostly slum-dwellers.(PTI/Representational Image) Sandeep Kumar, PRO of Gurugram Police, said, 'Ten illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained. Bangladeshi documents have been recovered from them. The process to deport them has begun.' Also read: Bengal launch helpline amid migrant worker harassment row; BJP floats counter helpline Meanwhile, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday condemned the detention of Bengali-speaking Muslim citizens across the country, labelling them as "illegal" while accusing the police administration of "targeting" them since they couldn't challenge "police atrocities." He said that those being labelled as illegal immigrants are "the poorest of the poor," who are mostly slum-dwellers and work as domestic workers and rag-pickers. Owaisi argued that they were being targeted repeatedly because they couldn't challenge "police atrocities." He stated that there have been reports of Indian citizens being pushed into Bangladesh at gunpoint. "Police in different parts of India have been illegally detaining Bengali-speaking Muslim citizens and accusing them of being Bangladeshi. There have been disturbing reports of Indian citizens being pushed into Bangladesh at gunpoint. This government acts strong with the weak and weak with the strong. Most of those who are accused of being 'illegal immigrants' are the poorest of the poor: slum-dwellers, cleaners, domestic workers, rag-pickers, etc. They have been targeted repeatedly because they are not in a position to challenge police atrocities," the AIMIM chief posted on X. "Police do not have the power to detain people just because they speak a particular language. These wide-net detentions are illegal," Owaisi added as he shared an image of an order of the Office of District Magistrate in Gurugram on his X account, where it has been mentioned that the state government has made a standard operating procedure (SOP) to deport Bangladeshi citizens and Rohingyas.
