Ashleigh Gentle keen to bounce back in San Francisco T100
Saturday's San Francisco showpiece will be hosted at the iconic Escape from Alcatraz course and Gentle is relishing the opportunity to make amends.
She reflected: "Singapore was an interesting one because I felt like I'd done a lot of really good training before the race and I didn't expect to be so far behind my usual mark.
"I rode the worst I'd ridden since I moved to middle distance and was so far off my best in the run.
"It wasn't great but reflecting back, I finished my season in mid-December last year. I think I rushed too quickly to be fit for Singapore because it meant so much to me and I overcooked it.
"I fit too much in and wasn't quite there. It's not how I usually perform.
"I was upset about it after the race but I just had to accept it and move on because I knew it wasn't anywhere near what I'm capable of."
The T100 Triathlon World Tour takes in locales as varied as Vancouver, London, the French Riviera, Valencia, Lake Las Vegas and Dubai over the course of a globetrotting campaign.
And having finished runner-up last year, Gentle has an eye on going one step further, beginning with this Saturday's Stateside showdown.
She added: "The fields have always been exceptionally good and you have new faces this year.
"Everyone's coming out and delivering really quickly because they're putting a lot of importance on the racing and are excited about the series.
"Everyone has trained for it and is ready for it so it's about just getting to each race and seeing how you stack up and seeing how you can put good races together and not be off the mark.
"Kate [Waugh] did really well. She's a super strong athlete, most people knew that and for her to convert to t100 and win her first ever event was a huge moment for her.
"You could tell she was happy and super excited and it was nice to see that elation on her face when she crossed the finish line.
"There were a lot of us who wished we were closer in the competition but she's really fit right now and deserved that win.
"A huge group of us are looking at her and how she set the bar really high this season and it's about us getting to that level."

Johnny Sexton says Lions playmaker Finn Russell is no flash in the pan
Russell pulls the strings in Saturday's first Test as the Lions look to take an important first step towards claiming their first series victory since touring Down Under in 2013. The Scotland playmaker was famously described as 'flashy' and a 'media darling' in Sexton's autobiography, but the Ireland great has been won over by his former rival since working with him in his capacity as Lions kicking coach. 'Finn's still flash! He'd hate it if I said he isn't,' Sexton said. 'But in the last couple of years he's come into his own as a 10 and he's been able to manage a team because ultimately that's his main job. And then his brilliance will come out once he's into the game. 'He's probably been our best defender in the backline on this tour so far. You always knew that was in there because he's a feisty guy. 'Physically he doesn't look that big, but he's fronted up big time on this tour and made a lot of impact tackles. We'll need him to do that against Australia because they'll be coming down his channel. 'I'm sure (Australia coach) Joe Schmidt will have a plan for him because he'll know how integral he is to our team and I'm sure he'll be doing everything to cut him off.' Russell plays with a smile on his face, reacting to mistakes with a grin and shrug of the shoulders, but the 32-year-old magician is operating at the peak of his powers having recently steered Bath to the treble. 'Finn has been relaxed as always, you wouldn't know it's the week of a Test. You can see the work he does, though,' Sexton said. 'You have a perception of him from the outside and I would have had the same, in terms of he is a relaxed guy and just takes things in his stride. But he does a lot of work behind the scenes. 'In the last couple of years he's really matured as a player. Bath getting to finals, winning trophies – you can't do that if you're just that kind of mercurial 10. 'You've seen that now this year. He's got his team over the line and he's won a few trophies and he's carried that form into here.' The Lions are heavy favourites to seize an early lead in the series at Suncorp Stadium, but Sexton insists victory is not a foregone conclusion. 'We don't pay too much attention to the bookies' odds or what people are saying. We're just concentrating on putting a great performance out there,' the former Lions playmaker said. 'That's what will be needed – a great performance, not a good performance, to beat this Australian team. 'They're a proud nation, they're a top class team, they're well coached, and we need to get the best version of ourselves out there.'

Overnight joint-leader Christian Bezuidenhout starts second round with a bogey
With the wind slightly stronger than Thursday, with potentially heavy rain forecast for the afternoon, the opening hole was not playing any easier – it was fifth-hardest yesterday and already rated most difficult for the early starters. Bezuidenhout found heavy rough on the right and could only advance his ball 85 yards back into the fairway and missed a nine-footer for par. That left Sheffield's Matt Fitzpatrick, Dane Jacob Skov Olesen and China's Haotong Li – all afternoon starters – and Harris English sharing the lead on four under. But Bezuidenhout rejoined them with a birdie at the par-five next. Australian Marc Leishman, who yesterday complained about the pace of play, sped to a three-under 33 outward nine, and another birdie at the 10th moved him up to two under.
