Kyle Walker seals surprise transfer to Premier League club after Man City exit

Daily Mirror19 hours ago
Burnley have completed the capture of Kyle Walker from Manchester City, with the veteran England defender putting pen to paper on a contract which will keep him at Turf Moor until 2027.
Walker, 35, was expected to depart the former Premier League champions for good after spending the second half of the 2024-25 season out on loan with AC Milan, who declined to take up an option to sign him permanently.
He was also omitted from City's squad for the FIFA Club World Cup as he sought a move away.
And it has now been confirmed that Walker has signed a two-year deal with the Clarets, who won promotion from the Championship last season.
"I'm delighted to be here," Walker said after making things official on Saturday morning.
"When I spoke to Scott and heard about his plans for next season, it was an opportunity I jumped at. He's done an amazing job here, guiding the Club back to the Premier League with a 100-point haul, and now we're looking forward, together, at being back in the greatest league in the world.
"Burnley had a tremendous campaign last season, built on an incredible defensive record, and I can't wait to come in and add my experience and quality to what looks an exciting squad."

Erik ten Hag set to sell ex-Man Utd player for second time in two years

Goalkeeper Matej Kovar was sold by Manchester United in 2023 and now Erik ten Hag is moving him on from new club Bayer Leverkusen after landing a Premier League star Erik ten Hag appears set to sell Matej Kovar for a second time in two years having also offloaded the goalkeeper while at Manchester United. Dutchman Ten Hag has replaced Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen and already welcomed in new first-choice stopper Mark Flekken from Brentford. And that has led to the Bundesliga giants agreeing a deal with PSV Eindhoven for Kovar, who left Old Trafford to little fanfare in 2023 while Ten Hag was in charge. ‌ The Czech Republic international expects to be first choice under Peter Bosz at PSV and Leverkusen will earn about £3.5m for selling him - a similar fee to what they paid United. The proposed deal also includes a sell-on clause. Club captain Lukas Hradecky and Niklas Lomb are the other goalkeepers in Ten Hag's squad. ‌ Ten Hag has also added defender Jarell Quansah from Liverpool, though Leverkusen have seen star men Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz head to Anfield in deals worth a combined £150m. At Old Trafford, meanwhile, an exodus is expected in the coming weeks. Ten Hag's replacement Ruben Amorim has informed five players that they do not need to report for the first day of pre-season training on Monday, allowing them time to find new clubs. Marcus Rashford remains linked with a move abroad with Bayern Munich and Barcelona among those showing an interest after Aston Villa decided against picking up the option to make his loan a permanent deal following a mixed spell ended early by injury in the second half of last season. Beyond Rashford, United have granted permission for four other players to NOT return for pre-season training on Monday as they seeks moves away. Alejandro Garnacho was reportedly told he could find a new club after row over being benched for May's Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao. ‌ Chelsea turned down the chance to sign Jadon Sancho for £5m at the end of his mediocre loan move last season and has recently been linked with a switch to Juventus. Antony spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis and was keen on making deal permanent but financial hurdles have complicated it, while left back Tyrell Malacia was at PSV Eindhoven for the second portion of last season, making 12 appearances in all competitions.

Arsenal eye Noni Madueke transfer as Rodrygo price tag revealed

Arsenal are set for a huge summer in the transfer market, with Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen his squad and guide the Gunners to their first Premier League title since 2004 Arsenal have made just the one signing so far this summer, but plenty more new faces are expected before the window slams shut. Kepa Arrizabalaga has joined from Chelsea in a cut-price deal to act as backup to David Raya and reinforcements are being targeted all over the pitch. Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos have completed permanent exits after spending last season out on loan, while several players have been released. That includes defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, with the Gunners reaching an agreement to terminate his contract 12 months early. ‌ Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have also been linked with exits, but it has been reported that Arsenal do not want to sell either player and are even in talks with Trossard over a contract extension. ‌ Arsenal eye Madueke Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke and Blues boss Enzo Maresca has spoken out about the England international's future. "Noni has been very important for us during this season," Maresca said after Chelsea's Club World Cup quarter-final win over Palmeiras. "Today, again, he has been important. But my message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us. "The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. It's not for Noni, it's for all the players we have. But again, Noni has been very good during the season and very good tonight." Rodrygo price tag Mirror Football understands that Arsenal will have to pay more than £70million to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo this summer. ‌ Rodrygo has been a bit part player for Real Madrid at the Club World Cup so far and could be sacrificed as Xabi Alonso looks to strengthen his attack. However, Arsenal could face stiff competition with both Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain interested in the 24-year-old. Gyokeres latest According to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, Viktor Gyokeres has rejected huge offers from two Saudi Arabian clubs as he is keen on a move to Arsenal. ‌ The Gunners are looking to sign a prolific goalscorer this summer and are working on deals for both Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, with conflicting reports over which striker is their preferred option. Al-Hilal and Al-Qadsiyah, meanwhile, are said to have offered Gyokeres lucrative deals worth around £11m-a-year. However, Gyokeres has turned them down as he wants to join the Gunners.

Man Utd's second signing confirmed amid Marcus Rashford to Barca twist

Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of young full back Diego Leon with Ruben Amorim already at the training ground ahead of Monday's first day of pre-season, when five stars will be missing Ruben Amorim is back at Carrington and Manchester United's first-team squad will return on Monday for the first session of what is expected to be a punishing pre-season that will ensure the team are ready to start the new Premier League campaign sharp. Well, most of the squad. Five players, including Marcus Rashford, have been told they do not have to report for duty to afford them time to sort a move away from Old Trafford. None have a role under Amorim it would appear and a host of clubs have been linked with moves, though the fact they are so openly being shopped could mean they are not going to get the highest possible price. ‌ Diego Leon, meanwhile, was unveiled yesterday months after a deal for the Paraguayan defender was agreed. He will spend time between the first team and academy as he gets used to live in north west England. ‌ Here are the transfer stories worth keeping an eye on as the first friendly appears on the horizon. Leon lands Manchester United have announced the signing of youngster Diego Leon. The Paraguayan defender's move had been agreed months ago but he has now officially joined from Cerro Porteno. Full back Leon, who turned 18 in April, has already played 33 senior games and scored four goals for Porteno. United said in a statement that Leon "as an emerging talent will be supported by our first team and the academy whilst he settles into life in Manchester." Leon is United's second official signing of the summer window, following Matheus Cunha's £62.5m arrival from Wolves, while they maintain a strong interest in bringing in Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Barca wishlist Barcelona maintain an interest in Marcus Rashford but it has been suggested that the Manchester United star is not at the top of the Catalan giants' summer wishlist. On Friday it was confirmed that Rashford, 27, will not have to return to United's Carrington base for the start of pre-season on Monday so he can secure a move away from the club with no prospect of him being reintegrated into Ruben Amorim 's plans. ‌ And United have already taken the No.10 shirt from Rashford and given it to new signing Matheus Cunha, who has arrived from Wolves for £62.5m. Bayern Munich are also looking at a move for Rashford, who is open to playing abroad but favours a switch to Barcelona. Reports earlier this week said that Rashford has made contact with Barcelona, after their £58million deal to sign Nico Williams collapsed in spectacular fashion. ‌ Rashford is said to have indicated a willingness to take a cut on his salary to help secure a move to the Nou Camp. But Barca, per Mundo Deportivo, see him as a Plan B signing rather than a top target. Four more to go Beyond Rashford, United have granted permission for four other players to NOT return for pre-season training on Monday as they seeks moves away.
