#SHOWBIZ: Composer Ross Ariffin dies at 63
He was 63.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil shared news of his passing in a Facebook post earlier today.
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of our national artiste, Ross Ariffin, this afternoon.
"The news was conveyed by Rumah Seri Kenangan Cheras, where the late Ross had been living since November last year.
"Uncle Ross was a composer who made significant contributions to the local music industry," he wrote.
More details about Ross's passing are still being gathered.
Fahmi said he had met Ross several times during his lifetime.
"He faced many life challenges, yet remained resilient in his artistic journey.
"May his soul be blessed and placed among the righteous… Al-Fatihah," he added.
On 8 June last year, Berita Harian reported a meeting between Fahmi and Ross, who was then living in a People's Housing Project (PPR) flat in Kampung Muhibbah, provided by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), after his story of living on the streets went viral.
At the time, Ross, who had been in the PPR unit for three months, said he was enjoying the new community environment.
During the visit, Fahmi also handed Ross a keyboard to help him continue composing music.
Ross, who once played violin in an orchestra in London, composed songs for several of Malaysia's top artistes, including Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Datuk Aishah, Liza Aziz, Jaclyn Victor and Fauziah Latiff.
Among his popular compositions are Dia by Fauziah, Kemaafan Dendam Yang Terindah by Aishah, and Kau dan Aku by Ning Baizura, which won the Anugerah Juara Lagu (Champion Song Awards) in the Pop Rock category in 1995.

"At that time he had several verses (melody) played. We will try to find the song and try to complete it. "I still remember the words (of the deceased) it's in my head, a song that I hope will be prepared for National Day as a recognition," he told the media when met after visiting the deceased's body at the Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin Hospital, in Kajang on Sunday (Aug 3). Fahmi, who was impressed by Ross Ariffin's creative spirit, said that the ministry provided a special piano to make it easier for the composer to continue working despite facing health challenges and starting a new life. "The way he produced music was very unique, he didn't write notes but kept playing. For me, it's a miracle, hopefully the songs he created will continue to be a memory for all of us," he said. Roslan Ariffin, 63, breathed his last at 5.30pm on Saturday and left behind two children. The body was buried at the Sungai Kantan Islamic Cemetery in Kajang after the Zohor prayer. The late Ross Ariffin had composed songs for several popular artists in the country, including Datuk Aishah ( Kemaafan Dendam Yang Terindah ), Fauziah Latiff (Dia), Ning Baizura (Kau dan Aku) and Jaclyn Victor (Ceritera Cinta). After hearing of the composer's death, Fahmi took to Facebook to share his condolences. "Uncle Ross was a composer who contributed greatly to the local music industry,' he said in the post. Fahmi also shared that he had met the late composer on several occasions and described him as a resilient individual despite the many challenges he faced in life. "He faced a difficult life but remained strong in his journey as an artiste. May his soul be showered with blessings and placed among the righteous,' he said. – Bernama

Then again, is it that surprising to find an adult playing with lego? Looking at the price tag attached to some of these lego sets, we are certain they are out of reach for the average child. Take it from a man who turned his entire home into an elaborate lego collection in a video on X. Upon entering, guests are greeted with a ship made completely from lego. The home is spacious and the corners are filled with shelves containing lego building blocks as well as more lego models. Anyone could have easily mistaken his home as a lego shop. There was even a studio within his house where he would host live lego contents. According to him, his mother bought him a lego super car when he was 10 years old. But are adult lego collectors a rare breed? Apparently not. According to the website Blocks, Adult Lego collectors are called AFOLs. AFOLs stands for Adult Fans of Lego. There are also LEGO clubs where AFOLs gather to build, discuss the latest goings-on and plan events. 'Not everyone wants to go to physical meet-ups though and there are many people who join Facebook groups or forums to discuss the hobby. Many AFOLs though are just happy enough enjoying the hobby by themselves and building models at home,' said Blocks. Blocks added that some AFOLs go on to start a career at the LEGO Group. Very talented builders can get jobs as LEGO model designers, designing the sets that are then sold in stores. People who want their models to be released as a set can submit their creations to Lego Ideas, the platform where fan designs can become official products.
