‘Jaws' 50th Anniversary Documentary Sets Summer Release Date on National Geographic, Disney+, and Hulu
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, 'Jaws' is circling the boat yet again. In honor of the legendary blockbuster's 50th anniversary, National Geographic is premiering 'Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story' in July. From 'Faye' and 'Music by John Williams' filmmaker Laurent Bouzereau, the documentary will explore the notoriously troubled shoot, its groundbreaking release, and the ripple effects the movie had on the industry and beach culture.
'Jaws @ 50' will air at 9 p.m. ET on July 10 on National Geographic and then stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu. Spielberg, along with production designer Joe Alves, actors Jonathan Filley, Lorriane Gary, Carl Gottieb, Jeffrey Kramer, Jeffrey Voorhees, and composer John Williams are all interviewed. The documentary will also feature insight from high-profile fans and filmmakers, including Jordan Peele, Steven Soderbergh, James Cameron, Cameron Crowe, Emily Blunt, Greg Nicotero, J.J. Abrams, George Lucas, and Guillermo del Toro.

Soderbergh told IndieWire's Filmmaker Toolkit podcast in January that he was working on an 'inside baseball' book, intended just for filmmakers, on the 'Jaws' production.
'After they've done all the land shooting, and they get out into the ocean … it starts to go bad,' Soderbergh said. 'As a filmmaker, reading these logs and these descriptions, it's excruciating, it's painful. I know what it's like to have things not happening [right], but this is on a level that is just mind-blowing.'
The chaotic 'Jaws' history is perhaps best known for its malfunctioning shark. During a 1995 documentary interview, Richard Dreyfuss recalled the months-long location shoot in Martha's Vineyard.
'There were all these radio mics all over the island … so wherever you were on the island, you could hear the radio mics, and they were always saying, 'The shark is not working. The shark is not working. Repeat, the shark is not working.' No matter where you were and for months,' Dreyfuss recalled.
'Jaws @ 50' is the latest in a string of celebrations for the classic, which will culminate in the unveiling of the Academy Museum of Motion Picture's ambitious 'Jaws: The Exhibition' on September 14. In addition to 'Bruce the Shark,' the 25-foot-long full-scale shark model from the movie that has been on display since the museum's opening in 2021, 'Jaws: The Exhibition' will include numerous artifacts and rare documents related to the film, many of which come directly from Spielberg himself.
'Jaws' cost less than $9 million to produce, but it grossed over $470 million worldwide, beating out a crowded 1975 slate that also included 'Dog Day Afternoon,' 'Shampoo' and 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.'
'Jaws @ 50' premieres July 10 on National Geographic, and July 11 on Disney+ and Hulu. Watch the trailer below:

Ryan pointed out that she's come to understand that grief isn't linear. As she navigates the stages of grief, she wrote that she hopes those stages shift to become "not a place to live." "Today on his birthday, I want you to know a few things about Jeff-- he was generous. Warm while principled. Intentional with a casual in debate," Ryan wrote. She also wrote that Baena believed in her, and "I feel really proud to be able to say that." Ryan added quite a bit more in an additional comment on her Instagram post. She wrote that Baena made her feel she was "worth believing in" and "deserving of respect." She touched on the struggles she has experienced in coming to terms with Baena's death over the past six months. Ryan admitted she was "trying to forgive my friend for taking my friend." Joshua Jackson reunites with his 'Mighty Ducks' costar Marguerite Moreau at the 2025 NHL Draft
Joshua Jackson knew how to dress for his big gig announcing the Anaheim Ducks' first-round picks in the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday: in an orange jersey with a familiar avian logo on the front and "Conway" in all caps on the back of it. "It's been a while since I wore 96, so it's nice to have back on," the star of The Mighty Ducks said on NHL Tonight. Jackson, who played team member Charlie Conway in the original 1992 hockey comedy, the 1994 sequel D2: The Mighty Ducks, and 1996's D3: The Mighty Ducks, joined his costar Marguerite Moreau, who portrayed skilled player Connie Moreau, in announcing center Roger McQueen as the Anaheim Ducks' first draft pick this week, making McQueen the 10th player selected overall. Its name was changed to the Anaheim Ducks in 2005, when Disney sold the franchise. As a 13-year-old filming the original movie, Jackson, now 47, never imagined how long the hockey franchise's legs would be, he told NHL Tonight hosts E.J. Hradek and Alexa Landestoy at the event. "I don't think really any of us knew what we were doing and couldn't possibly have even dreamed that this would be a possibility all these years later," Jackson said, gesturing toward the crowd assembled behind him at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where the 2025 NHL Draft took place. Before the draft got underway, Jackson joked with Hradek and Landestoy that none of the players about to be drafted had been born when the original film came out. "Literally every single one of them," he said with a laugh. "Some of their parents weren't even born by the time we made the Mighty Ducks movies." Indeed, 18-year-old McQueen was born in 2006, a decade after the third film in the series was released. The trilogy also starred Emilio Estevez as lawyer Gordon Bombay, who coaches the young hockey team through their misadventures. The franchise expanded into television, first getting the short-lived adaptation Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series in 1996, and then, in 2021, the two-season live-action Disney+ show The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. Moreau appeared in an episode of the latter series; Jackson did not show up in it. The Dawson's Creek star, who hails from Vancouver, said hockey has always been part of his life. "I'm enough of a fan that there's been a couple times I've been allowed to be around the [Stanley] Cup," he said on NHL Tonight, "and until I reached my 30s, still wouldn't touch it, just in case." Jackson told Hradek and Landestoy that he used to dream of being announced as a member of the NHL Draft, not doing the announcing. "But I'm okay with it now," he said. "I've recognized that this is my role." He seemed more than okay, actually. Jackson called it a gift to be involved in such a monumental day in a young player's life. Entertainment Weekly "To be a part of making somebody's dream come true, you just don't get that opportunity very often in your life," he said. "And to come full circle wearing the jersey, it feels pretty good. To have my small brick in the wall of the legacy of the game is amazing." Moreau recently appeared in four episodes of Max's acclaimed hit medical drama The Pitt. Jackson's soapier medical drama, Doctor Odyssey, which was set aboard a cruise ship, was just canceled at ABC after one season following a lawsuit filed by three members of the props crew against parent company Disney and producer 20th Television.
