Woman, 8-month-old girl from California vanish after routine doctor visit

Yahooa day ago
A 36-year-old mother of four from Sacramento County and her 8-month-old daughter vanished more than two weeks ago after a doctor's appointment in Fresno, leaving family members desperate and law enforcement without any leads.
Whisper Owen, 36, and her daughter, Sandra McCarty, were last seen on July 15, according to a news release from the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
The pair left Elk Grove, where Owen and her partner live with their three other children, at around 4 a.m. that day to make the approximately 160-mile drive to Fresno. Owen's mother, Vickie Torres, told the Los Angeles Times that the 36-year-old stopped at her house before the appointment to change Sandra's diaper and then checked in with the doctor's office at 8:30 a.m.
After the 8-month-old's doctor visit, Owen and her daughter visited her brother's Fresno home until about 2:45 p.m. that afternoon before once again stopping at her mother's and, eventually, leaving Fresno around 5 p.m.
At around 8 p.m., a license plate reader in Atwater, approximately 65 miles from Fresno, spotted Owen's silver 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer, where Torres believes she likely stopped to use the restroom and, maybe, get baby formula for Sandra, The Times reported.
Surveillance footage from a nearby smoke shop in Atwater showed Owen changing Sandra's diaper in the parking lot about a half hour before, authorities said.
No one has seen or heard from the pair since.
Owen's mother said it's not uncommon for her to stay in Fresno for days at a time, so when she didn't hear from her daughter's partner the night that she never made it home, it didn't occur to her to be worried.
It wasn't until three days later that Owen's partner, who has not been identified, called Torres to ask about Owen.
'So then everything started to get scary at that point,' Torres told The Times.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office said that, so far, no information has been found to explain the pair's disappearance, and as of this week, the Fresno Police Department's Missing Persons Unit said there were no new developments in the case.
In a statement to The Times, the police department said investigators haven't found anything that would suggest foul play was involved.

Frustrated with the lack of headway in the case, Torres said she reached out to the Sacramento Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for help, though she added that they have not been responsive.
Family members, including Owen's partner, have been searching the roads between Fresno and Sacramento, putting up flyers and posting information about the distressing situation on social media.
Torres told The Times that Owen's other children are 'losing their minds' and that her daughter would never just run off and leave her other kids behind.
Owen is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 145 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair, while her daughter Sandra is described as 1 foot 10 inches tall, weighing around 17 pounds with green eyes and brown hair.
Officials with the Fresno County Sheriff's Department urged anyone who sees Owen and her daughter to immediately call 911.
'It just makes it really hard for me as her mother to shut my brain off and not constantly imagine what could've happened to her,' Torres told The Times. 'And that beautiful little baby. God, I hope, whatever happened, she's with her mama.'

Cops called as Denise Richards shows up at ex's home amid restraining order

The cops were called on Denise Richards Sunday when the reality star allegedly showed up at the home of her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, despite a restraining order the reality star has taken out amid their divorce battle. A divorce lawyer for the 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' alum, 54, told TMZ that Richards only arrived at the Calabasas home Sunday 'after confirming that Mr. Phypers was not present,' and did so 'to retrieve her dogs after learning that Mr. Phypers had put down one of her other dogs without her knowledge or permission.' Phypers, who denies Richards' recent claims of longstanding physical abuse, told the outlet that everything the 'Wild Things' star claimed was 'absolutely false. 'Denise's actions are willfully intentional in the slander and destruction of what is left of a family,' continued the 52-year-old 'frequency medicine' practitioner. 'This is after Denise chose to carry on an adulterous affair — after being caught not once, not twice, but three times.' Photos published by the outlet show the OnlyFans star speaking to a trio of deputies outside the home, which is owned by Phypers, his parents and brother. One image shows Phypers speaking to one of the officers, while another shows him hugging his elderly mother. Phypers, who wed Richards in 2018, filed for divorce July 7, three days after he said they separated. Richards has claimed he 'would frequently violently choke' her and subject her to other forms of physical abuse, including leaving her with a black eye in 2022. She was granted a restraining order against Phypers, which lasts until their scheduled court appearance on Aug. 8, and orders him to stay 100 yards from Richards, her home, car and place of business. Richards last week accused Phypers of disseminating her texts and illegally leaking her nude photos. 'Mr. Phypers has continued to harass Ms. Richards since being served with the Temporary Restraining Order by, among other things, disseminating private information from Ms. Richards' cell phone and laptop, which he stole,' her lawyer alleged in a statement to multiple outlets in late July. 'These actions continue to disturb Ms. Richards' peace. … Ms. Richards will not be responding to Mr. Phypers' false allegations in a public forum and will be addressing Mr. Phypers' abuse in Court.'

Romford stabbing: Woman killed at home named as Nkiru Chima, 60, after murder investigation launched

A woman who was fatally stabbed at a house in east London last month has been named by police as 60-year-old Nkiru Chima. Officers were called just after 9pm on Sunday, July 27 following concerns for welfare of a woman at an address in Bushy Close in Romford, Havering. Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Chima was pronounced dead at the scene having been stabbed multiple times. The victim's family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers, the Metropolitan Police said. Scotland Yard believe the stabbing is connected to the death of a 20-year-old man on the train tracks at Romford railway station earlier that evening. This man was known to Nkiru and British Transport Police continue to investigate his passing. Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke from the Met's Specialist Crime Command said: 'Our thoughts continue to remain with Nkiru's family at this difficult time. 'I would like to thank the local community for their support with this investigation so far. Our officers will be continuing enquiries and we encourage anyone with any information to contact us.' No arrests have yet been made and the investigation remains ongoing, police added. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or contact 'X'@METCC and quote CAD6914/27JUL.
