Lukhona Fose's family says community last saw her with friends on day she vanished
Her family reported her missing to the police when she didn't return home on that day.
Lukhona's body was later discovered in a veld a day later, brutally mutilated.
Her uncle, Mthobeli Fose, says she was found naked from the waist down, with cuts on both her lower and upper body.

He says two boys have approached the family, saying they can identify the group of friends she was last seen with.
"Police have gone out to search for her group of friends she was last seen with, with the help of the two boys. We are still waiting to hear what happened. They have not gotten back to us yet. We want to know from her friends what really happened and when they separated from each other."
Meanwhile, the Gauteng Education Department is providing counselling and trauma support to learners and teachers at Ikusasalethu Secondary School in Braamfischerville, Johannesburg.
Fourteen-year-old Fose, a Grade 8 learner from the school, was reported missing over the weekend.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says the incident is devastating, especially during Child Protection Week.
"The Department stands with the nation in the condemnation of this barbaric incident. The MEC has indicated that the young girl learner who had a bright future in her life is now finished because of brutal activity that occurred in the hands of people that we don't know."

On Friday, Schreiber led Operation New Broom to conduct its first immigration enforcement raids in Nelson Mandela Bay. The operation led to the arrest for deportation of 95 illegal immigrants. Numerous operations have already been conducted in Cape Town and Pretoria. A Chinese-owned business was also found to be in contravention of a range of immigration laws. The Department will be in court today to confirm the deportation orders. 'Operation New Broom demonstrates our commitment to work in a focused manner to restore the rule of law. 'Our message to people who are in our country illegally is clear: voluntarily self-deport now, before Home Affairs deports you and bans you from entering South Africa altogether,' warned the home affairs minister. Gauteng operation On Monday, 7 July, Deputy Home Affairs Minister Njabulo Nzuza led Operation New Broom in Roodepoort in Gauteng. The operation followed a tip-off from a community member. It would have been difficult for anyone to suspect that unlawful activities were taking place here because the managers and workers live and sleep in the factory,' said Nzuza. 'We want to send a strong message to all who are illegally residing and working in the country that we are coming for them. We found 21 illegal foreign nationals from Malawi, China and Zimbabwe. One Malawian had a visitor's visa but was found working in contravention of the conditions of his visa. All the arrested people are being processed for deportation.' Home Affairs' Operation New Broom Home Affairs launched Operation New Broom in May, as part of the department's drive to intensify enforcement operations in urban hotspots. The operation seeks to arrest, convict and deport illegal immigrants occupying public spaces. ALSO READ: Home Affairs committee raises alarm over border authority underfunding The first operation took place in District 6 in Cape Town, where 25 suspects were arrested while occupying land meant for restitution to the victims of forced removals. The operation utilises biometric technology to verify the immigration status of suspects, thereby eliminating the risk of fraudulent documents and strengthening legal cases. 'The benefits of our commitment to digital transformation are being felt across all areas of Home Affairs' mandate, including through the strides made by the Border Management Authority at the borders and by Home Affairs inland,' said the minister. 'As with everything else we do, Operation New Broom is guided by our commitment to the rule of law. It is this commitment that both motivates us to do more to combat illegality, and to uphold due process and legal compliance in the process.' This comes after the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) obtained a recovery order against a contractor that defrauded the Department of R67 million through corrupt tenders. The Special Tribunal granted the order against Kroucamp Plumbers, whose contracts were found to be irregularly awarded between 2015 and 2019 through falsified bidding documents, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and bribes paid to officials. 'We are working with the SIU to finalise lifestyle audits for over 400 high-risk officials,' Macpherson said. 'Together with law enforcement agencies, we will continue to send a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated.' He said the case against Kroucamp Plumbers showed the importance of strengthening financial controls and ensuring transparency in procurement. 'This recovery order is another important step in our efforts to root out corruption and recover stolen public funds, as we work to build an efficient department capable of delivering construction projects on time and within budget,' Macpherson said. We will leave no stone unturned in holding contractors and officials accountable for their wrongdoing, regardless of when it occurred.' The Tribunal declared contracts worth R67 million, awarded between 2015 and 2019 for vacuum pumping of septic tanks and emergency sewage blockage interventions, invalid and unlawful. The SIU's successful tribunal application also blocks a potential R33 million counterclaim by the contractor against the Department. Macpherson said since taking office, the Department has worked closely with the SIU to support and speed up investigations into corruption, fraud, and mismanagement. 'The case against Kroucamp Plumbers is a prime example of the importance of our collaboration, as we seek to ensure that public funds are no longer abused.' Macpherson reaffirmed the Department's goal of becoming a key driver of infrastructure delivery. Image: Ayanda Ndamane / Independent Media The Minister of Public Works, Dean Macpherson, has taken a hard-line stance on corruption as he cracks the whip on fraudulent conduct amid reports that the department is losing millions to alleged ghost employees. As result, on Wednesday, the minister confirmed that his department has ordered lifestyle audits on 400 high-risk officials in key departments as part of the clean-up campaign within the department. "Over the past year, we have taken action to confront corruption and maladministration within the Department. We have launched lifestyle audits on over 400 high-risk officials, and we are finalising investigations into ghost employees who were irregularly paid by the Department. Where wrongdoing is confirmed, action will be taken swiftly," he said. Macpherson, who briefed the media on Wednesday on his first year as minister, has indicated that his ministry and department are undergoing a clean-up campaign, which has already conducted and completed lifestyle audits on 48 senior managers. Next Stay Close ✕ The minister indicated that the verification process undertaken also includes conducting a physical verification of employees to ensure that every person on the payroll exists. "Our anti-corruption unit is currently auditing the Persal system across the department and EPWP to detect any fictitious employees drawing salaries without working," he added. Macpherson said these audits were being conducted independently, in partnership with the Special Investigating Unit, and included asset verification. His clean-up campaign has not left non-performing contractors who defraud the department out, with the minister revealing that his office will lead the department's internal reform agenda to ensure governance lapses are identified early, while procurement is monitored rigorously, and fraud is reported and acted on.
