DGCA removes window shade advisory, photography ban remains at IAF airports
The DGCA emphasised on Saturday that the prohibition on aerial and ground photography continues to apply to all aircraft operations at IAF JUAs.
"Advisories to Air operators on the prohibition of aerial and ground photography and the lowering of window shades were issued as per instructions from the IAF to enhance operational safety at Joint User Airports (JUAs)," The DGCA said in a statement.
The statement added, "However, after receipt of revised instructions, lowering of window shades is no longer required, while the prohibition on aerial/ground photography remains in effect for all operations at IAF JUAs."
Earlier this month, the DGCA took a significant step to raise the standards of pilot training in India.
On July 9, the aviation regulator formally launched a national ranking framework for Flying Training Organisations (FTOs) with the aim of improving transparency, consistency, and performance across the sector.
The initiative aims to ensure standardisation, safety, and accountability in India's aviation training sector.
The ranking system will be implemented as of October 1, 2025, and rankings will be published twice a year, on April 1 and October 1, to provide timely and updated evaluations of FTO performance.
According to the DGCA's public notice issued on July 8, the ranking framework is designed to standardise training quality across DGCA-approved institutions, enhance transparency for students and their families choosing FTOs, encourage continuous improvement and adoption of global best practices, and support regulatory decision-making, including identifying high-performing institutions for possible expansion or partnerships.
FTOs will be categorised into four tiers based on their performance scores: A++ (85% and above), A+ (70% to less than 85%), A (50% to less than 70%), and B (below 50%). FTOs placed in the 'B' category will receive formal notifications from DGCA to conduct internal reviews and take corrective actions.

Autorickshaw union plans to launch app to tackle refusal menace in Mumbai
Mumbai: The Mumbai Rickshawmen's Union on Sunday announced its plan to launch an app aimed at combating the refusal menace. The app will assure commuters of a ride and allow autorickshaw bookings while ensuring payment is made only by the RTO-approved meter. Union leader Thampy Kurien, who proposed the idea to the transport department, is set to demonstrate it to officials at Mantralaya this week. "Unlike Ola and Uber, our app will not calculate fares that are low, very high, or dynamic in nature. It will merely book an auto and ensure pickup from your doorstep or wherever you are waiting. After the pickup, the driver will flag down the meter and take you to the destination, collecting the actual fare as per the meter, " Kurien told TOI. You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai The union is also considering introducing a convenience charge, potentially a nominal Rs 5 per trip for app usage. It will seek MMRTA approval for any fare above the RTO-approved meter fare, said Kurien. He explained that the app's necessity arises after a series of refusals by auto drivers. Police statistics indicate there were nearly 4.7 lakh challans in 2024 for refusals by autos and taxis, with auto refusals accounting for over 70%. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Interested in Investing? Cyprus Offers Many Options Cyprus Invest | Search ads Undo A senior transport official said they will review the app and, if it proves beneficial to commuters and auto drivers, there should be no issue in granting clearance. Kurien further indicated that he plans to challenge Ola and Uber autorickshaws operations in the city in Bombay high court. These vehicles do not operate by the meter despite drivers possessing state badges and permits, which require that vehicles function "only by the meter". Uber and Ola officials were unavailable for comment. Kurien also plans to petition the transport department to regulate autorickshaw operations outside railway stations. "At present, there are three different groups of autos – one which stands in queue and picks up passengers with no questions asked, the other which picks up while on the go, and a third group of cartel which parks autos at a distance and demands hefty share fares for popular destinations such as Linking Road, beaches, waterfronts, promenades, etc," he said. "We want govt to have a single queue outside all railway stations. If autorickshaws do not want to join this queue, they will have to drop passengers and leave the station precincts immediately. Those in queue should observe discipline and ferry all passengers – short or long distance," he added.

Sundar Pichai net worth: How rich is the Google CEO - is he a billionaire?
Google CEO Sundar Pichai becomes a billionaire in 2025 with $1.1 billion net worth, driven by Alphabet shares, AI growth, and disciplined stock sales. Synopsis Sundar Pichai, Alphabet's CEO, has officially become a billionaire, with his net worth reaching $1.1 billion. This milestone is attributed to his Alphabet shares and long-term compensation, boosted by the company's AI-driven growth. Despite selling shares over the years, Pichai's strategic approach and Alphabet's success have solidified his billionaire status. Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet Inc., which owns Google, has officially become a billionaire. As of now, Pichai's net worth is estimated at $1.1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. ADVERTISEMENT This billionaire status comes mainly from: His 0.02% ownership stake in Alphabet. Large cash reserves he's built up. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has a market value of over $2.3 trillion, which helped boost the value of Pichai's shares. In the past month alone, Alphabet's Class A stock jumped by 13%, which gave a fresh boost to Pichai's personal fortune, as per the report by Bloomberg. Unlike other tech billionaires like, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and Jensen Huang. Pichai did not start Google himself. Because of that, Pichai never had a massive stockholding from the early days of the company — which is why his net worth is much lower than those founders. His billionaire status came only after years of compensation packages and steady stock gains at Alphabet, as per the report by Fortune. ALSO READ: SpaceX launches 28 Starlink satellites after rare network outage — Here what you need to know Over the last 10 years as CEO, Pichai has sold about $650 million worth of Alphabet shares. If he had kept those shares, they could be worth more than $1 billion today, and his total net worth would be around $2.5 billion instead of $1.1 billion. ADVERTISEMENT For example, in June 2025, Pichai sold about 33,000 Class C Alphabet shares at $169 each, earning about $5.5 million. But now those same shares are worth around $193 each, meaning they'd be worth over $6.4 million. Despite these sales, Pichai has stayed disciplined and transparent — and follows a legal rule called Rule 10b5-1, as stated by Fortune report. Pichai's stock sales are made under Rule 10b5-1, a SEC-approved rule that lets executives plan their stock sales in advance. ADVERTISEMENT This rule: Prevents insider trading. Uses a pre-set formula to decide how many shares to sell, at what price, and on what date. Requires an independent third party to handle the sales. His recent sales on June 4 and July 16, 2025, were both made under this rule. Other top CEOs like Jensen Huang of Nvidia also use this same method. Fortune reported last summer that Huang was selling around $14 million in stock almost daily using Rule 10b5-1. ADVERTISEMENT James Reda, a compensation expert from Gallagher's HR consulting firm, explained this approach makes sense. He said, 'If you don't sell stock, you may end up like Elon Musk—borrowing big loans using stock as collateral.' Selling some shares regularly is a safer way to manage wealth, according to Reda.A big reason for Alphabet's recent stock growth is the AI boom. On Alphabet's Q2 earnings call, the word 'AI' was used around 90 times, showing how important it is to the company's strategy. The company reported 14% revenue growth year-over-year, reaching $96.4 billion in Q2, according to the report by Fortune. Google Search, YouTube ads, Google Cloud, and subscriptions all saw double-digit growth in the quarter. The stock rally—and Pichai's wealth jump—are part of a larger trend. In 2023, tech billionaires like Musk, Zuckerberg, and Larry Ellison added $585 billion combined to their fortunes, mostly thanks to AI. ADVERTISEMENT Investors are concerned about whether big AI companies can hold on to their best people, especially after some staff left OpenAI to join Meta's AI team. But Pichai seemed confident on the earnings call. He said, 'We've always invested deeply in talent, including AI, for over a decade now.' ALSO READ: JD Vance torches Microsoft for axing US jobs while doubling down on H-1B visas Working on cutting-edge technology Having access to top computing power Collaborating with the best people in the industry Pichai added that Google is competitive in all these areas and expects to keep attracting and retaining top AI talent. Sundar Pichai is now officially a billionaire. His wealth mostly comes from a small stake in Alphabet and steady compensation. He has sold a large number of shares over time—but in a legal, well-planned way. The AI boom has boosted Alphabet's value and helped grow his fortune. Pichai's path to billionaire status is different from that of the founders, but still impressive, according to the report by Fortune. Q1. Is Sundar Pichai a billionaire now? Yes, Sundar Pichai is officially a billionaire with a net worth of $1.1 billion, thanks to his Alphabet shares and long-term compensation. Q2. .How did Sundar Pichai become so rich if he didn't start Google? He became wealthy through years of stock awards, a 0.02% stake in Alphabet, and the company's AI-driven growth, despite regularly selling shares. Government tells Air India to 'end backseat driving' in key departments
NEW DELHI: Two key messages given by the Union aviation ministry to Tata Sons and Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran on Friday were to "end the culture of backseat driving" in key AI departments with a direct bearing on safety, and that people holding posts in these core departments should have the final authority to take decisions and not be there merely to be fall guys when things go south, thereby protecting the alleged backseat drivers. Union minister Ram Mohan Naidu, secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and DGCA chief Faiz Ahmed Kidwai had met Chandrasekaran on Friday to discuss steps to improve airline's safety. Chandrasekaran is learnt to have agreed to these suggestions. "Some departments, like safety, training, maintenance, engineering and 'integrated operation control centre' (IOCC), are key to ensuring overall operations take place safely. There were observations about some of these departments having a dichotomy in terms of someone being the post holder but someone else calling the shots. This needs to be resolved and we are hopeful the same will happen," said people in the know. After the June 12 AI 171 crash and subsequent minor incidents, the ministry has been holding high-level discussions with AI management headed by CEO Campbell Wilson. Three days of intense discussions culminated in the Chandrasekaran-Naidu-Sinha-Kidwai meeting on Friday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo Following the minor incidents (AI 171 is being probed separately), AI post-holders were called to regulatory agencies concerned multiple times. With knowledge of AI's inside functioning, regulatory officials often "felt bad" for the "scapegoats" as those really calling the shots were not before them. "Unko kyan bolein hum (What can we say to them)," shrugged some officials who face this dilemma. On June 21, the DGCA had ordered the removal of three AI officials in charge of crew scheduling following "lapses in licensing, rest, and recency requirements", while warning it could go to the extent of shutting down AI if lapses in crew scheduling continued. One other thing that has been subtly pointed out to the management by officials following the June 12 crash is the airline's decision to keep items from planes that have crashed in the past (not AI 171) at its mega Gurgaon complex. Things like seats, instruments and flight data recorders have been kept on display. While it was perhaps meant to serve as a reminder of the need for safety, it is intensely disliked by a large number of employees. "We need positive energy and that place brings just negativity. We look at those seats and feel someone might have perished on them," said many employees. A senior govt official said: "With Tatas and Singapore Airlines as its stakeholders, this is the best chance AI has to become the airline of JRD's dreams. Along with IndiGo, India today is looking at the possibility of two big Indian airlines, with some promising newbies that can also make it big some day. Govt will help Indian airlines, and that is what it is doing with AI handholding at this difficult time. Also, safety is govt's responsibility also in a highly regulated sector like aviation. " All airlines have their own issues, and AI is not alone. "Our attention on AI as of now is like a teacher paying extra attention to a promising student who might not be doing well for some reason," govt officials said, adding, "It is time the well-run Singapore Airlines helps its JV come out of this huge crisis."
