Rahul Gandhi marches to EC's Patna office against electoral roll revision
The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, who arrived in the state capital in the morning, was accompanied by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(ML) Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CPI general secretary D Raja and senior leaders of other opposition parties.
Gandhi, along with the other leaders, were atop a vehicle during the protest march which started at Income Tax Golambar in Patna.
Rail and road traffic were disrupted in parts of Bihar as workers of opposition parties hit the streets to enforce a statewide bandh called by the Mahagathbandhan.
A large number of Opposition party leaders blocked the movement of road traffic on Patna's Mahatma Gandhi Setu by burning tyres.
Independent Lok Sabha MP from Purnea, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, along with his supporters, reached Sachiwalay Halt railway station and tried to disrupt the movement of railway traffic.
Yadav's supporters blocked rail and road traffic in several parts of Patna as well as in other parts of the state, including Araria, Purnea, Katihar and Muzaffarpur.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, he said, "The Election Commission, through its special intensive revision of electoral rolls, is snatching voting rights from migrants, Dalits, Mahadalits, and poor voters. It's a conspiracy to block votes ahead of the Bihar assembly polls due later this year." Workers from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, CPI(ML) Liberation and CPM burnt tyres and blocked roads in support of the Bihar Bandh in Arwal, Jehanabad and Darbhanga as well.

'My mistake that caste census was not done in UPA tenure': Rahul Gandhi
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said it was his mistake that the UPA govt did not conduct the caste census, adding the blame lies with him and not the party. He said he is correcting the mistake now by getting the census done, pointing to the exercise by the Congress-ruled Telangana which he dubbed as a model in social data collection which has created a "political earthquake" that is not visible. At the AICC's OBC convention "Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan", which was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, K C Venugopal, Siddaramaiah, Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, Bhupesh Baghel, Gaurav Gogoi among others, Rahul said when he looks back at his 21 years in politics, he has scored well on the issues of poor, SCs, STs, minorities and women, but faltered on those of the backward classes. "I can see clearly that I faltered on one issue - the way I should have protected the OBC sections, I didn't do it. The reason was at that time, I did not understand your issues deeply," he said. Rahul said it is easier to comprehend the challenges faced by dalits and tribals because of their history, but those of OBCs are "hidden". "I regret if I knew your issues and history better, I would have got the caste census done. And I am going to correct it (the mistake) now." Modi is no big problem," he said. Rahul said the problem of OBCs is that their history was killed by the RSS-BJP. "When you realise this, you would know that RSS is your biggest enemy," he added. He said BJP leaders claim they will remove English from India, but their own children study in the English medium. Kharge took a swipe at Modi by asking if he would retire at 75 years of age, as suggested by the RSS. He said Modi became OBC only after he became the CM of Gujarat and added his community to the OBC list.

No funds from muzrai temples diverted: DGR
Mangaluru: Minister for health and family welfare, Dinesh Gundu Rao, expressed concern over the spread of false information accusing the govt of diverting revenue from endowment temples for other purposes. Stating that the govt utilises the revenue from muzrai temples exclusively for the development of religious shrines under the department, the minister said that a few organisations have been spreading malicious campaigns against the govt with a political agenda. Rao was speaking at a consultation meeting with the management committee members of temples under the Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments department on Friday. The Congress govt under chief minister Siddaramaiah increased 'tasdik' (remuneration for archaks) from Rs 24,000 to Rs 36,000 per year, and later to Rs 48,000 during his previous term. "The govt has further increased the tasdik to Rs 72,000. There is a political conspiracy to portray the Congress govt as anti-Hindu," Rao alleged. NEW DELHI: BJP on Friday rejected Rahul Gandhi 's statement regretting that he could not get the UPA regime to conduct a caste census in its 10 year-tenure at the Centre. "He makes it look like a confession but it actually is a camouflage, because the real problem is Congress leadership's DNA. It started with Nehru ji who got B R Ambedkar defeated twice to ensure the lead author of the Constitution and the inspiration for our Dalits did not enter Parliament. Indira Gandhi hounded another great Dalit leader, Jagjivan Ram out of the party and Sonia Gandhi humiliated Sitaram Kesri. Rahul's crocodile tears cannot obscure these facts," said Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan. "Successive generations of Congress leadership have been against reservation. Nehru ji wrote to CMs to make the false claim that quotas hurt efficiency and Rahul Gandhi spoke for hours in Lok Sabha to oppose the implementation of the Mandal commission and incited caste riots. Rahul had torn off the copy of an ordinance which had been approved by the Cabinet and cleared by the President. Kharge saheb had to show his loyalty by shredding what they called SIR when EC, a constitutional body, is acting as per Constitution and law of the land". Trivedi said Kharge's "protest" reflects their "mindset" of recognising constitutional bodies on the basis "of whether they won elections". He said: "If Indira ji said the recognition of constitutional bodies would be decided on the basis of whether she won elections or not, today Rahul says EC's credibility would be decided on the basis of whether his party won elections or not".
