CM Mann to review progress of anti-drug campaign with Ludhiana officials today
During the meeting, Balbir Chaudhary shared detailed information about the efforts being made by the Nasha Mukti Morcha in the district. He said that continuous work is being done to save the youth from drug addiction through de-addiction centres and awareness campaigns in Punjab. Sukhjit Singh highlighted the success of the ongoing activities against drugs and social awareness programmes at the Punjab level. He emphasised that the cooperation of every section of the society is needed to further strengthen the Punjab government's war on drugs campaign.
In the meeting to be held with CM Mann on Monday, a report will be presented on the steps being taken by the Morcha to eradicate the drug problem in the state. Along with this, the effectiveness of government schemes for stopping drug trafficking and rehabilitating the victims will also be discussed. The meeting will discuss ways to increase the capacity of de-addiction centres, further expand awareness programs and strengthen the local police and there was also a discussion on increasing coordination with the administration.
Balbir Chaudhary and Sukhjit Singh jointly appreciated the anti-drug efforts of the Punjab government and said that under the leadership of the CM Mann, the dream of making the state drug-free will soon be realised. They appealed to the entire society to participate in this campaign and make joint efforts to save the young generation from the evils of drugs. In-charge of 'Nasha Mukti Morcha' Ludhiana Rural-1 Manjit Singh Raikot, Ludhiana Rural-2 Hemraj Sahnewal and Coordinator of Halka East Sandeep Mishra and many other colleagues were present in the meeting.

Tree Funeral March: AAP protests irregularities in tree cutting in Pune
In a unique show of protest, the Adam Aadmi Party (AAP) organised a symbolic 'Tree Funeral March' on Monday to raise concerns about alleged illegal tree cutting and the lack of transparency in the tree permission process in Pune. The march, featuring participants carrying cut tree branches and saplings wrapped in white cloth, akin to dead bodies, began from JM Road and concluded at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters. AAP leaders and volunteers accused PMC and other authorities of turning a blind eye to rampant tree felling across the city. 'Between April 2022 and December 2023 alone, official data accessed through the RTI Act shows that permissions were granted to cut 10,502 trees and transplant 11,860 trees,' the party stated in its press release. While agencies were mandated to plant 3.4 lakh compensatory trees and deposited a total of Rs 22.5 crore for the same, AAP alleged that there is no credible or publicly accessible record to confirm whether these plantations have actually taken place. 'The Tree Authority is functioning in a non-transparent manner. Citizens are left in the dark about how decisions are made, where compensatory plantations happen, or if they survive,' said one of the party volunteers during the protest. The party has demanded an immediate halt to illegal tree cutting, a complete audit of past permissions, and the creation of a publicly monitored dashboard to track compensatory plantations.

Delhi CM tables FY24 finance report in assembly; shows 55 pc drop in revenue surplus
New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) The revenue surplus of the Delhi government under AAP rule in 2023-24 declined by 55 per cent as compared to the preceding fiscal, said a CAG report tabled in the Monsoon session of the assembly by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday. Gupta tabled the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports on 'Finance Accounts and Appropriation Accounts of the Delhi for the year 2023-24. The report pointed that although the revenue receipts of the government dropped, the gross state domestic product (GSDP) at current prices grew at an average pace of 8.79 per cent during the last five years from ₹ 7.93 lakh crore in 2019-20 to ₹ 11.08 lakh crore in 2023-24. There was 9.17 per cent growth in GSDP in 2023-24 from the previous year 2022-23. Also, the budget outlay of Delhi increased at an average growth rate of 7.14 per cent from ₹ 64,180.68 crore in 2019-20 to ₹ 81,918.23 crore in 2023-24, said the report. It further said the revenue surplus of Delhi government in 2023-24 decreased from ₹ 14,457 crore to ₹ 6,462 crore, registering a fall of 55.30 per cent over 2022-23. The fiscal deficit, however, went down from ₹ 4,566 crore in 2022-23 to ₹ 3,934 crore in 2023-24, it said. The report of the CAG on the finances of the Delhi government for the year 2023-24, provided an overview of its finances, budgetary management and quality of accounts, financial reporting practices. The report noted a receipt-expenditure mismatch indicating rising fiscal stress. The report further showed that the Delhi government's revenue expenditure between 2019-20 and 2023-24 increased from ₹ 39,637 crore (5 per cent of GSDP) to ₹ 50,336 crore (4.54 per cent of GSDP). It consistently made up a significant portion ranging from 81 per cent (2021-22) to 83 per cent (2023-24) of the total expenditure during this period, growing at an average annual rate of 6.51 per cent, added the report.

AAP accuses BJP of framing its leaders in 'false cases' after Delhi court dismisses case against Satyendar Jain
The AAP on Sunday slammed the BJP for allegedly framing its leaders in false cases and questioned who would compensate the families for the emotional distress caused by the serious corruption allegations. In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false".(PTI) In a major relief for AAP leader Satyendar Jain, a special court on Monday accepted the CBI's closure report filed in a 2018 case against the former Delhi PWD minister and others related to alleged corruption in hiring a creative team for the department, noting that the "investigation found no criminal activity or wrongful loss to the government." In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false". "With time, the truth will come out in all these cases. False cases were filed against us, and we were sent to jail. Shouldn't those who filed these false cases, and those leaders who ordered these false cases, be sent to jail? We were smeared with mud day and night, our families had to endure so much pain — what about compensating for all that?" the AAP supremo said on X. While accepting the CBI's closure report, Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said the investigating agency has not found any incriminating evidence over such a long period, and further proceedings would serve no useful purpose. "Whenever they wanted, they filed fake cases; whenever they wanted, they sent us to jail; and whenever they felt like it, they filed a 'closure report.' Is this justice?" Kejriwal questioned. Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also posted on X, "Three things cannot remain hidden for long: the sun, the moon, and the truth. – Gautam Buddha. No evidence found against Satyendar Jain: CBI." "The BJP put in all its might, but victory always belongs to the truth. Satyameva Jayate," Sisodia said in his post. The agency had registered the case on May 28, 2018, on a reference from the office of the Lieutenant Governor of the NCT of Delhi to investigate the allegations of irregularities in the award of a tender to a private company for hiring a creative team for PWD works. Four years later, the CBI filed a closure report in the matter, underlining that there was "no evidence of pecuniary advantage, conspiracy, or corruption". AAP's Delhi state convener Saurabh Bharadwaj said the "conspiracy" of the BJP had been exposed. "The conspiracy of BJP exposed. False cases by CBI revealed. The despicable thinking of BJP's central government and their LG - file false cases against Kejriwal's government ministers and MLAs to hinder their work, defame them in the name of corruption. Now the truth is coming to light,' he said in a post on X in Hindi. Echoing similar views, former Delhi minister Atishi said in a press conference, "Since the AAP government was formed in Delhi, the BJP has filed false cases against our leaders. In 10 years, more than 200 cases have been filed against our leaders. When these cases go to court, it comes to light that AAP leaders have done nothing wrong." Atishi said the CBI court has accepted that there was not a single penny of corruption in Jain's case and has declared him innocent.
