43 vehicles impounded for overcharging
According to Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Malik Muhammad Tahir, a thorough inspection of 1,265 vehicles was carried out on the Eid days.
He said that 70 vehicles were fined for overcharging and overloading, with 43 passenger vehicles being impounded. In addition, a total fine worth Rs153,500 was imposed.
The Regional Transport Authority secretary said the authority also recovered Rs24,160 collected in excess fare from transporters, which was returned to passengers.
Monitoring squads were formed to oversee the situation during the holidays, with support from the traffic police and assistant commissioners, he added.

PFA lodges 4 FIRs, imposes Rs968,500 fine during crackdown
LAHORE: Enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) conducted inspections at 920 food points across Lahore Zone during a large scale crackdown against food law violators on Friday. Food safety teams registered four FIRs, imposed fines worth Rs968,500 and arrested one suspect over serious violations of the Punjab Pure Food Regulations, said Director General PFA Asim Javaid. Food safety teams inspected 432,000 litres of milk and discarded 7,650 litres of substandard and adulterated milk. In a separate raid on an oil warehouse in Awan Town, PFA seized and discarded 2,000 litres of poor quality oil. A case was registered against the godown owner, who was arrested on the spot. In Kahna a vehicle carrying fake milk was intercepted at a checkpoint. Milk was discarded and legal action was initiated against the supplier. DG Asim Javed said that poor hygiene conditions were observed at several food points, including moldy freezers, rusty utensils, insect infestation and the use of contaminated water for washing meat. He said that essential records and employee medical certificates were also missing. DG further said that the use of unhygienic and low-grade ingredients poses a serious threat to public health. He said that strict action will continue against all elements involved in food adulteration and that efforts are underway to bring all food operations in line with international safety standards. Pindi cracks down on sugar hoarders
The police and district administration have launched a sweeping crackdown across the Rawalpindi division against profiteering and hoarding of sugar. During inspections at various locations, 139 violations were reported, resulting in fines totaling Rs761,000, the registration of two FIRs, the arrest of 39 individuals, and the sealing of 33 premises. Rawalpindi district reported 64 violations, leading to Rs542,500 in fines, two FIRs, 28 arrests, and the sealing of 26 businesses. In Attock, 22 violations resulted in Rs. 89,000 in fines, 10 arrests, and 2 premises sealed. Jhelum witnessed 26 violations, with Rs44,000 in fines and five establishments sealed. In Chakwal, eight violators were fined a total of Rs64,000. Murree authorities found 19 violations, imposed Rs. 21,500 in fines, and arrested one individual. Rawalpindi Commissioner Aamir Khattak has directed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure that sugar mills adhere to government-notified prices and that a steady supply chain is maintained. He emphasised that the crackdown on price manipulators must be intensified, and warned that "sugar mafias" will not be allowed to exploit consumers. Magistrates have been instructed to stay active in the field and to carry out strict, impartial enforcement against retailers charging above the official price. Arrests must be made wherever there is a breach of the notified rates. Additionally, DC counters have been ordered to ensure the availability and quality of all essential commodities.

State will ensure justice: CM terms Degari killing case ‘test case'
QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti on Monday clarified that there was no marital relationship between the man and woman who were brutally killed in an alleged honour killing in Sanjeedi Degari, a suburb of Quetta. Terming it a 'test case' for his administration, he vowed that all those responsible for the crime would be brought to justice. Speaking at an emergency press conference in Quetta, the chief minister said that 11 suspects had so far been arrested, and law enforcement agencies were conducting raids to apprehend more. 'Whoever is involved in this case will be arrested, produced before a court, and punished in accordance with the law,' he asserted. CM Bugti rejected the widespread impression on social media that the deceased were a recently married couple. 'There was no marital relationship between the two,' he said, adding that both the woman and the man were already parents—she had five children and the man had five or six. The clarification comes in the wake of a disturbing video that went viral last week, purportedly showing the execution of the couple in the name of honour. The incident, believed to have taken place days before Eid-ul-Azha, sparked national outrage and prompted the Balochistan High Court to take suo motu notice. The chief minister said the provincial administration had taken notice of the incident even before the video gained attention on social media. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring justice, stating that the state would not abandon the oppressed. 'This case involves victims, and the state is firmly standing with them,' he said. He also confirmed that the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) concerned had been suspended for negligence, and further disciplinary actions would be taken against those who failed in their duties. Calling the Degari killings a 'test case,' Bugti stressed that no individual or group could be allowed to operate above the law. He said the incident had raised questions about the misuse of Jirga systems and tribal authority in criminal matters. 'No attempt is being made to disarm tribal society, but no society can condone such killings,' he said. 'The factors behind this crime must be uncovered. Jirgas that promote such actions are being actively stopped by the state. The government will be run under the Constitution.' In response to questions about the broader law and order situation in the province, the chief minister said that security forces had killed 10 militants in an operation conducted the previous day. 'These terrorists seek soft targets and attempt to flee after carrying out attacks. But our forces are effectively countering them,' he said. Bugti criticised elements that he claimed were exaggerating the security threat in Balochistan, stating that the situation was gradually improving. 'The people should not be afraid. We are defeating terrorism and will restore peace across the province.'
