Along with his red card, Ramos held up what fans have identified as an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a depiction of the Virgin Mary popular in Mexico.
Ramos, a native of Culiacan, Mexico, quickly realized his mistake as he put the apparent religious card back into his pocket.

Ultimately, nine-men Boca Juniors held on over the final minutes of the contest to earn a point against Benfica at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Boca raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first half as Miguel Merentiel and Rodrigo Battaglia found the net.
However, Benfica got back into the match via World Cup winners Angel di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi.
Benfica will look to earn their first win of the tournament on Friday when they face Auckland City.
Boca, meanwhile, will face current group-toppers Bayern Munich on Friday in Miami.

Report: Dolphins, Minkah Fitzpatrick agree to reworked deal
July 27 - The Miami Dolphins and All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick agreed to a reworked contract, ESPN reported on Sunday. Fitzpatrick will receive a $16.435 million signing bonus and Miami will save $11 million against the 2025 salary cap, per the report. The Dolphins acquired Fitzpatrick from Pittsburgh last month in a trade that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Steelers. Fitzpatrick signed a four-year, $73.6 million extension with the Steelers in 2022 and hopes to eventually sign a long-term deal with Miami, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus. "We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multiyear extension," Rosenhaus told ESPN on Sunday. Fitzpatrick, 28, is a five-time Pro Bowl and three-time All-Pro selection who launched his career in Miami as a first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft. Ryan Gravenberch is set to link up with Jeremie Frimpong at Anfield this season, and the Liverpool midfielder has lifted the lid on giving the full-back advice on what to expect from Arne Slot's set-up Ryan Gravenberch has explained that he shared a FaceTime call with Jeremie Frimpong before the full-back signed for Liverpool. The pair of Dutchmen have already shared the pitch on occasion for their nation, and will now link up at Anfield with hopes of defending the Reds' Premier League title in 2025/26. But before Frimpong committed his future to Liverpool, he shared a chat about the club with Gravenberch. Speaking about Arne Slot's summer signings thus far, the midfielder said: "Jeremie, obviously I know him for a long time already so I have a really good relationship with him. However, Frimpong isn't the only high-profile signing that Liverpool have acquired this summer.
